042822 Finally An Ezine & Spring Has Sprung!…. Lynn’s Latest #003

Since my last ezine on 2/24 A LOT has happened.  And I mean ALOT!

Let’s see, we had our 4 year anniversary, we opened a new clothing store, held a charity fashion show, traveled to Phoenix for an Ali Brown Conference, made a trip to Palm Desert and spent Easter in Marina del Rey.  Yikes!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #003…

Watch for it every Thursday or every other Thursday, Friday or Saturday!
Actually, lets be honest…watch for it whenever I get one finished hahahaha
Volume III Issue 003

The four year anniversary party was amazing! I hired a friend of Houston’s and Indiana’s, Brittney, to take photos. She did an amazing job! Check out some of the fun pics.

After the grand opening of the clothing store (also on March 1st) the rest of the month was a blur.  Some of the highlights….Indiana had a comedy show on March 12th at the Comedy Nook in West Hollywood where she brought back Sister Josephine and added in Anna Delvey.    Anna Delvey from “Inventing Anna” with that crazy accent!  OMG…too freaking funny!

Jeff, Joanne and Katie Carolan joined me, Houston, Emma and a bunch of Indy’s friends. Always a super fun time! From left to right, Houston, Alex Neis, Joanne, me, Katie, Indiana, Sydney Swearingen, Clayton Mattingly and Emma!

March 12th was a tough day for me so I was super grateful to have the Indiana distraction.  It was 10 years ago on that day that my sister, Kiki, passed away from Cancer.  It seems like it was yesterday and then it also feels like it was a 100 years ago.  I will never forget that phone call that came in around 6 am.  I poured myself a rum and diet coke and screamed at the top of my lungs for about an hour.  I am sure I freaked my kids out.

Here are Kiki’s boys and their dad, John, at her grave on March 12th.

On that note, I think it is time to share an eBay score….don’t you?  This is a super piece that I inherited from my Grandmother.  She had impeccable taste.  I sold it for a best offer of $400.  Thank you Grandma!

Check out the listing here.

Speaking of my Grandma, I got the strangest message on Instagram recently.

WILD!  Yes, Cheryl Leaf was my grandma and she did use a typewriter.  She used to type all of her articles on reproductions for the NADA (National Association of Dealers in Antiquities) and her class notes on an old typewriter on tiny pieces of paper (well 1/2 sheets).  This is what those sheets look like……Papers rustling and a typewriter….Good chance it is Cheryl Leaf.

I started writing a book…Antiques from A to Z, based on these notes.  I am currently on volume R and this was a harsh reminder that I need to finish it!  LOL!  But Seriously, I do believe that my grandmother is probably still hanging around her home / antique store.  There was nothing she loved better than working in her store…it was her passion.  When I told my kids the story, they said, “Damn!  She is still working”.  Funny huh?  Here are photos of my grandmother with both Indiana (3 days old) and Houston 2 1/2 years).  I really miss her!  She was one of a kind!

The weekend after Indy’s show was Val’s birthday and I was invited to spend the day with her family up in Ojai and the Topa Winery.  Cha Cha and I headed up there for a super fun day.  Thanks for including me!

In huge store news, and thanks to Jo Dallas for suggesting it…… I have named Sandy Bornfeld manager of the Fun Home Furnishings store.  Congrats to Sandy as she works so hard for the store!  As she and her husband Doug like to say, “We have adopted a consignment store”.  LOL!  And, BTW….this has made my life sooooooo good!  I mean, my life is already excellent and I am so blessed, but hiring Sandy has been a game changer!

Here is a photo from the day we told her (in the parking lot of Santa Cruz Market no less).  LOL!  Thank you Jo Dallas, Mor Mor and Sandy!  And a photo of Sandy and me at 4 year anniversary party.

I should probably take this time to introduce the new members of my team!  We are growing by leaps and bounds.  Rachell Fassimo, who has been doing my Instagram for the past 8 months, is now the Manager of the Fun Fashions store!  So excited to have her on board!  Here is a picture o her with her darling & busy son Ollie!

Let me reintroduce y’all to Val, Peggy, Candy & Susan.  Valerie Harrington was my very first employee here in Ventura!  That is her with her husband Ron & me.  Peggy McCarthur started a bit after her and is my best pricer and she loves taking pillows in on consignment!  She is here on Tuesdays from 3 to 5 pm every week to take in Consignments in the main store.  And then there is Candy Corcoran who started with us about 2 years ago when Pier One closed down.  And most recently, we hired Susan Whelan for the Fun Home Furnishings Store!

And then of course, there is Cindy Johnson who is my eBay right hand girl Friday here in Ventura!  Couldn’t keep selling on eBay without her and Mo (out in the desert)!  And yes, we now have almost 17,000 items listed on eBay.

I would  remiss in not sharing a photo of Maureen Arcand, because she has been my number one eBay assistant since 2004!  OMG that is forever.  Here is a photo that popped up in my memories recently from about 2007.  It was Mo at her day job (waitressing lunches at The Nest), me, Kiki with Zach and my mom. Those were the days my friend!  We all look so orange!  Must have been the time of day….or maybe we are all just orange!

With the new clothing store, I hired three more gals for back there.  Crazy?  Right!  Kailen Ivers came to us from her former store Mimosa Rose. That is her with all of us behind the counter. Shawnna David worked for Kailen and they are relatives.  Robin Arnold found us from being a customer and newsletter reader.   All three gals can be found back in the clothing store on any given day.  Stop in and give them a shout out!

I can’t believe how amazing all of these women are and I am so grateful and blessed to have such an amazing cheerful hardworking team! Stop in and introduce yourself to all of them 🙂

In Houston news, my poor kid went flying over the handle bars of his bike and broke his collarbone. Ughhhhh! He was a difficult birth because he was so big and his collarbone was broken at birth. Interestingly enough both breaks were not in the same place. He is healing now but those past 5 weeks were tough on him as he wasn’t allowed to ride his bike….which is his passion.

Next up on the Indiana Wilson comedy tour, she was asked to perform in the Hump Day Cabaret on the Sunset strip at El Cid…soooo much fun!  Here is her Insta post promoting the show.  LOL!

So I rounded up the usual cast of characters, bought burritos for everyone at Corrales and we headed into West Hollywood.  Here is my post on Instagram with all of the burritos….I said “Indy we are coming for you” and she thought it was super creepy!  LOL….but wait for it….she and Clayton were dressed as clowns for their bit.  Can’t get much creepier than that…Am I right or am I right?

Here is a picture of the gang after the show. Soooo much fun!  From left to right….Joanne Carolan, Alana Carolan, Marty Mundell, Katie Carolan, Alana’s best friend, me, The amazing Magician, Emma Craven, Indiana and Clayton Mattingly.

Time for an eBay score….wouldn’t you agree?  Sooooo, long story short, I bought these amazing English Chop Plate Chargers back in 2017 before I had even moved to Ventura.  They had been listed for 5 years when I finally got an offer of $120 each for 8 of them last month. OMG!  YES!  The sale was over $1,000 with tax and shipping.  Yipppeeee Skipppyy!  Check out the listings here.

Houston was missing from that show for several reasons….#1 his broken collarbone which has been extremely painful and #2 he and Emma got a dog.  Yes, I did just say that out loud….they got a dog!  And not just any dog, a $5,000 weiner dog that they named Grandpa.  Whatever!  I was not a fan until I met the little guy and I have to admit, I am smitten.  Here is Emma with the blue eyed little dachshund.

After Indy’s show I headed out to Palm Desert for the weekend.  I needed to drop off some eBay stuff for Mo and pick up all of the items she had listed for me.  In big news, her divorce had just been finalized.  It was bittersweet for her.  On a lark, we headed to Palm Springs and decided to have a drink/toast at the restaurant La Vallauris where she had held her wedding reception.

Well, it was a Sunday and the bar wasn’t open.  The only option was brunch and they were oversold and no tables were available.  Ughhhh!  I was also guessing that brunch was going to be a million dollars a person….LOL.  After my experience at a Disneyland Brunch over Christmas (I was shocked that it was $50 a person and I was paying for 8 people!) I was prepared for the worst.  While Mo and I were waiting to see if there might be a cancellation they showed us the menu.  No price listed…not a good sign!

As Mo and I were just milling around the lobby (because we really wanted to at least have a drink there) the hostess finally said, “Well, I could seat you in the hallway.”  WTF?  Show us the hallway!

It turned out to be amazing….open sliders to the outdoor patio, but we were in a booth…it was perfect!  So much fun!  And brunch was only $65 per person with unlimited champagne.  Needless to say, we stayed for about 3 hours.  It was super fun.  If you are ever in Palm Springs, Sunday Brunch at La Vellaruis is a must!

Still thinking about that desert trip, I never get to just hang with my friends in the desert because we are always working, so this was a rare treat!  And the next two nights, I hung out with my desert besties and we laughed and laughed and laughed.  Can’t wait to go back!  Love those girls!

I also got to grab coffee with Kflan (Kelly Flannagan) who I hadn’t seen in a few years!  And  this upcoming weekend I am going to San Diego to see Lori my other Desert Bestie.  You know, I did raise my kids out there and we lived there for almost 17 years.  Lots of  great memories and great friends.  So, lets share a photo of my Desert Besties.  This is me, my mom, Mo, Kel & Candy on one of our many Bellingham trips (all friends because our boys played baseball together)!

Enough about all of my amazing friends! Back to real life…I am always trying to make my life better & up my game so I recently changed up my workouts and started going to Fit Buddha. Fit Buddha is owned by my friend Marc Kettles and we met 40 years ago as Freshman at USC. How crazy is that?

I was headed to a private training session with him, had Cha Cha in the car to drop off for her grooming and as I got off the freeway onto the off ramp, my car stopped. HOLY SHIT! Always something. Thank goodness my friend Marty from high school came to the rescue and he took Cha Cha to get groomed while I waited for the tow truck. It was scary!

Well, I would be remiss if I didn’t share a photo of Indiana and I at Fit Buddha after a work out.  OMG, Indy was brave enough to join me and I must tell you, this is the hardest workout I have ever done in my life!   I am so proud of her for joining me there for two workouts.  I did fall off the machine the other day…pretty scary, but whatever, there is no growth without fear.  Am I right or am I right?

And also a photo of Marc and I at the fashion show (which I will talk about next!).  He and Eva’s daughter, Shanti was one of our models!  So much fun!

I think it is time for an eBay score!  Don’t you?  OK, check this one out…..Click here to see the listing.

It is a Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate from 1957.  It sold for almost $100.  My grandmother was HUGE on RC and B&G Christmas plates.  She was so smart.  She knew that the Danish Plates would always keep their value.  She knew that the fly by night companies…Berta Hummel, Knowles, Bradford etc. would be hit and miss.  The collector’s plate business in the 1970’s was off the charts.  She made a fortune and built the huge addition to her tiny shop with the money.  God, I miss her!

One of the reasons that I picked this plate for an eBay score was because my Mom called me this morning to tell me that she had sold a 1961 Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate for $90…the subject matter was a cutter ship.  I just love Scandinavian items.  Crazy!  Maybe because we are mostly Scandinavian.  I did my DNA a few years ago and I am 77% Scandinavian (Sweden, Norway & Denmark).  I really want to plan a trip there with my mom and kids to check out our ancestry.

Before I forget, Griff and Brian Burke interviewed me recently for the eBay for Business podcast.  Mind you, this was during the crazy time we were trying to get the clothing store up and running.  But if you know me at all, I relish a challenge.  Bring it on!

And then there was a ton of backlash from sellers/the community who thought I was telling people to do something against eBay policy.  Whatever!  Haters be everywhere.  LOL.  Check out that interview here.  And I come in at the very end….minute 38:30 if you want to skip right to my section.  And it was released on March 1st, 2022.  The 4th anniversary of the store, the grand opening of the clothing store and on the day that should have been my Dad’s 88th birthday.  Aaaawwww!  Synchronicity.

And this is my all time favorite picture of me, Griff and Lee from the eBay radio days.  Soooooo much fun!

So, again before I forget.  My sister’s son Zach turned 16 on April 23rd.  Awwwww.  Such a great kid and he got his driver’s license that same morning.  Do y’all remember getting your driver’s license?

I will never forget that day.  I took the test in my parent’s huge boat of a car (did you call those huge cars boats back in the day or was that just a Bellingham thing?)  Lol.  After I passed my exam, I remember dropping off my Dad at my grandmother’s antique store and driving down Illinois street all by myself.  Such an amazing feeling of INDEPENDENCE!  I will never forget that feeling.

Here is Zach with his new/used car that he bought with his own money from reffing Soccer games.  OMG, Kiki (my sister) would be so proud!

So, my biggest news of this ezine/newsletter is the Ali Brown conference I attended in Phoenix on April 6th and 7th.  By the way, I LOVE to overuse the word “So”.  Not sure why, but just know that I realize this!

OK, so Ali has been a huge mentor for me over the years.  She is currently pretty elite.  You can only attend her events if you are a woman who grosses more than $1 million a year.  I am not there quite yet..but am getting close.

The event was a Creative Strategy Workshop.  I knew that great things would come from this conference so I splurged on a semi-private jet to get me there.  JSX is an airline that flys out of Burbank and two of my friends, Joanne Carolan and Janette (Island Girl Spray Tans) have flown them.  Just a heads up, they are not that much more than a commercial flight.  And when you drive up to the the hanger in Burbank, they take your car and your luggage and you NEVER go through real security.  Score!

The Creative Workshop was amazing!  I met so many fantastic women and came away with great ideas!

The biggest idea that I came away with was to tap into the high end luxury clothing, purses and jewelry market like The Real Real.  We have started a new Instagram account called LynnsLuxe and I will have more details soon.  Most importantly, there will be a sliding scale for consignments based on dollar amounts.  So it will range from 40% to 70%  for you based on selling price.

Start gathering your Luxury items now and watch for an email soon!  Also, to all of you in different parts of the country and world, I am working on a prepaid shipping program for you to send in your higher end goods for free.  Soooooooo exciting!

Please follow us on Instagram for LynnsLuxe and also for LynnsFunFashions and LynnsConsignments.  Rachelle is doing a fantastic job with all of these accounts and we would appreciate the follows!

On my last day in Phoenix, I get a text from Tiki Jason.  He’s like “Yo, do you wanna meet for lunch or dinner?”  I was like, “Dude, I am in Phoenix.”  Turns out he and Staci were also in Phoenix as they had recently purchased a home there since Staci is working there full time.  Couldn’t turn down that invite.  So I ubered 40 minutes to meet them.  Always a fun time!  And then, they were in Ventura this past Saturday and I met them for lunch at Ventiki!  Love seeing my friends 🙂

When I returned from Phoenix it was time to do the Spring Wine Walk with my crew.  Rachelle was supposed to join us but Ollie got sick.  Ughhhh!  Oh, do I remember those days of being a single parent.  Not easy, but so worth it!  Here I am with Joanne, Sandy and Val. Super fun time!

I have to admit…I have been having too much fun. I worked so hard and non stop to get that clothing store open by March 1st, that I am taking a well deserved FUN break! Although, being such a workaholic, I do feel a bit guilty.

The next weekend was Easter and I was headed to Marina del Rey to spend the weekend with my kids! I arrived just in time on Saturday evening to grab dinner at the Cheesecake Factory where Indy is a hostess. Then Hous, Indy and I ubered to Saint Monica’s Catholic Church for Emma’s Confirmation. The last Easter Vigil I attended was 5 years ago in Malibu when Houston got confirmed and it was PAINFUL! About 4 hours long. I was pleasantly surprised with Emma’s service.

It was rockin and rollin and just beautiful. Congrats to Emma! I hope and pray that this means Houston and Emma are headed for marriage. I probably shouldn’t say that out loud, but I just did!

We thought about grabbing a drink afterwards to celebrate, but we were all pretty tired.  So, we stopped at a Vons and I gave the kids $100 to spend on any food and drink that they wanted.  It turned out to be a super fun little adventure.  I ended up buying Emma a congratulations plant (that she picked out), we got a charcuterie tray, Tequila, Vodka, Mixers and some other assorted snacks.  Crazy, but I would have spent that much at a restaurant with nothing really to show for it.

Here is a snap of the kids walking through the store and a throwback photo of Houston in a mini-market in Poland.  For some reason, I just love this picture of him….he looks so…well, European!

The next morning was Easter.  Somehow, in the middle of the night with Cha Cha on her leash, I was able to bring up their HUGE Easter Baskets one by one.  I made one for Indy and a joint one for Emma/Houston since they are basically the same person.  LOL.  When I do something like an Easter Basket, I tend to go BIG.  Go BIG or Go Home….Am I right or am I right?

Easter morning was super fun and we even did an Easter Egg Hunt and then went out to the most amazing brunch!

We wrapped up Easter weekend with dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.  Then Monday, Indiana, Cha Cha and I headed back to Ventura.  Indy’s Jeep had broken down and we had it towed to Jay’s Automotive here in town.  We LOVE Jay!  Super fun time with my girl and on Tuesday, we did a work out at Fit Buddha.  Scary hard!

After that we met up with Leslie Arntzen (my best friend from 6th grade) who was in Santa Barbara house sitting.  Later that evening we met up with our high school friend Marty for dinner.  High School Friends are the Best Friends!  LOL!

Before I forget, we need some help on Yelp.  OH MY!  I just rhymed.  But seriously, if y’all love the store, please share that love with us on Yelp.  Our last review was almost 2 years ago during the height of Covid and it wasn’t a good one!  Ughhh!  Also, we could sure use some new fresh photos.  Thank you in advance!  Here is a link.

We moved into our new house 2 days before Thanksgiving.  Yikes!  I have given myself 6 months to get it whipped into shape and we will be hosting a house warming party on Sunday, May 15th.  My mom is even flying down for it.  Yay!  I will be sending out invites on Facebook to some of our customers and consignors.  I have been having a lot of fun working on different areas in the house.  Check out the new/old mirror over our hearth.

In Cha Cha news, miracles never cease. Actually, the puppy phase never seems to end. She now finds Amazon packages in the yard, only opens the ones with replacement remote controls (that I have ordered because she has chewed up the other ones) and crunches them into a pulp before they even get into the house.

And the other day, I found her on the back patio with my sunglasses in her mouth, scotch tape on her nose and pillow stuffing all over the ground. As my sister Kiki would have said, “Calgon, take me away!” Thank God she is cute is all I can say.

Back to the clothing store, we still have appointments available for you to bring in 20 of your best clothing items.  We are also now taking Mens items.  Please call or text the clothing store at  805-470-6493

If you missed the email saying what we are looking for in clothingplease read it here before you come in.  Thanks!

And I just couldn’t resist sharing this photo of my kids using one of those “fun” filters.  OMG!  I sound soooooo old, but I am not!  I still feel like I am 22 years old.  LOL!

Thank you all for supporting me, my family and my businesses as I work on expanding….as you know I am building my empire!

eBay with Heart
Decorate with Heart

I try and do everything in my life in a big way and with a lot of heart!  Thank you for joining me on this super fun journey.  I appreciate you!

Oh before I forget…One of Houston’s best friends from Pepperdine, Noel, has started an earring company up in Portland.  She is hand making these amazing earrings from hand thrown clay etc.  We just placed our first order and they are phenomenal.  Come in and check them out & help us support women in business!  The circled ones are what we received in our first order!  So fun!

Oh crap!  I forgot one of the most important things.  We have Annie Sloan’s NEW SATIN paint in and it is a game changer according to Val!  No waxing is required and it goes on smooth as silk!!!! Yippppeee…I was only able to order 2 cans of each color so come in and grab them before we sell out!  So much fun these days at Lynn’s!  Because you know, “Everyone Wins When They Shop at Lynns!”

Take care and we hope to see you soon!  Sandy, Peggy, me and
Val!  Also, Candy, Cindy, Rachelle, Kailen, Robin, Susan & Shawnna (not pictured)….

Thanks for reading my ezines!  I appreciate it….as always!
