Volume VI Issue 000060
This past week has been ALL about moving my eBay business. I must say that I am exhausted and we still have six more shelves to move. Yikes!
On Thursday, Val (who I love) and Barb (one of my favorite consignors) showed up to help pack up eBay merchandise. Above and beyond and thank you!
We moved two shelves to my house and really made a dent!
The best part of their helping out, was that they both brought their vehicles for us to load up. And thank you to Sandy (who I also love) for loaning me her truck almost every day. What friends I have!
Check out the progress in my garage at my house. I am going to LOVE working from home again. Val was sooooo smart and had me plug in a power strip in the only outlet before we filled up the shelf!
Friday, we took a break from moving the eBay business and good thing that we did, because Friday night Indiana had a show that she and her friend Steph produced. It was in West LA at a private residence.
Unfortunately, no one could go with me, so I headed down alone. It was right off of Laurel Canyon, so I stopped at Chin Chins to get Houston and myself a Chinese Chicken Salad. Here we are before the show!
The show was amazing! One of the best I have seen. The girls had rented 50 folding chairs and there were about 20 people standing up on the balcony. It was sold out! Check it out…what an awesome venue!
Here is a shot of all of the comics after the show. Indiana really had some great talent there (in addition to herself)! Isabel Klein was there (who went to Pepperdine with my kids) and is now a Sunday regular at the Groundlings starting in November. Congrats Isabel!
Also, Blake Rosier, who has a HUGE following on Insta. In fact, Xander who works for me, saw my post about the show and said “I love that comic…I follow him on Insta”.
Houston filmed it and made a fun YouTube video if you care to watch. Here is a link.
Here is what Houston wrote about the evening….and I love how he put the number of Instagram followers after each name. I did NOT know that Indy had 5,500 followers.
“What does the future of Saturday Night Live look like? Just blocks away from the Groundlings Theater, young comedians are testing their voices — performing stand-up, creating characters, and even blending the two. Some, like Blake Rosier, perform stand-up entirely in character. This video pulls back the curtain on “Night Job”, a secret $8 backyard comedy show in Hollywood. Held during a summer heat wave, the show feels like a mix between a stand-up night and a house party. Drinks were pay-what-you-can (beer, wine, soda, seltzers), the vibe was communal and laid-back, and the performances were sharp, funny, and original. ️ Tickets: $8 Drinks: Pay-what-you-can Atmosphere: Backyard mixer + underground comedy CORRECTION: Indiana Wilson and Steph Philo were credited as “co-creators” in the video. Larissa Dowling was credited as a “Producer.” This is wrong. See below for the correction. Producers Indiana Wilson | @indianaewilson (5.5k) Steph Philo | @steph.philo (1.8k) Production Assistant Larissa Dowling | @lars.issa (2k) Performers Blake Rosier | @blakerosier (308k) Sahana Srinivasan | @saha_srinivasan (29k) Isabel Klein | @isabel_klein (7.5k) Jill Young | @jillisyoung (7.5k) Alice Brenner | @alicebrenner_ (2.7k) Grace Kasemeier | @gracefayek (1.5k) Ben Ellerbrock | @benlrbrock (663) Filmer Houston Wilson | @houstonhwilson (787) If you’re interested in underground comedy, stand-up, or hidden Los Angeles culture, this $8 backyard show is a glimpse into where the next wave of comedy is headed.”
As I am writing this, I got a notification that Houston just posted a blog entry. Oh my goodness! Both of my kids are so creative. I really can’t wait to see what their futures hold. It is really exciting for me as a mom to watch.
It reminds me of something I said in those oldish home videos I watched last Tuesday night. I had just received a new pair of Ray Bans from William (their dad) back at Christmas in 1993 and I said in the video….”I feel like a Movie Star”. LOL….hopeful that one of my kids will achieve that goal…they are both headed in that creative direction. Exciting times! Here I am in those Ray Bans. Hahahaha.
Before I share the blog post, I have to tell you what I witnessed at the comedy show this past Friday night. Blake came up to Houston and said “Dude, I can’t believe your near death experience on the mountain….that video just showed up in my feed and I was blown away. Like, I know him and then your mom picking you up….etc.”
Then Houston asked Blake if they could film some stuff together. History in the making! I have always said that Blake is the next “Conan O’Brien” and now he and Houston are collaborating. Love this so much!
So, back to Houston’s blog post. He filmed and interviewed my mom up in Washington last week. He took all of the tidbits and wrote a poem. He did title it “My grandma turned 100″….even though we all know she just turned 89.
It is an interesting look into what has been happening in my mom’s life. Very bittersweet.
Here is a link if you care to read the entire thing. It is not that long and very insightful.
Time for an eBay score. It has been crazy to still be shipping out eBay items when they are located in three different places right now. Ughhh! There is still stuff in the back of the store, at my house and in my new storage unit. Confusing!
Sold this on Tuesday for a best offer of $100. I bought this out in the desert a few years ago for $5 and it is just lovely….but antique glass just isn’t selling for as much as it used to. Happy with the $100!
When I get home from Indy’s show on Friday night, I was amped up on adrenaline….not sure why that is, but the energy at these shows is contagious. Needless to say, I rarely sleep well after one of the shows.
And Saturday was crunch day! We were attempting to get six more of the Costco eBay shelves moved. Yikes! Quite the large undertaking. I rented a uhaul at 9:30 am and had both Xander and Kevin that day.
Somehow, we did it! Got all six moved, but not unpacked. Here is a link to a tiktok I did that day.
After my crazy Saturday….I raced home to get ready to go to Santa Barbara for a Pete Yorn concert. For those of you who know me, I LOVE Pete Yorn. My friend Rebecca picked me up at 6:30 and off we went. I was EXHAUSTED, but rallied.
Here we are after dinner at the club, but before the concert.
The Soho in Santa Barbara is not that big, so the concert was smaller and so much fun!
Sunday, I had a day off and boy did I need it! Monday was Fit Buddha and then I grabbed lunch with Sandy at Aloha. They have a great lunch special….steak caesar for $15.
Then it was back to the store where Xander was packing up more of my eBay stuff. While Xander did that, Kevin worked on sorting the clothing bins and getting them in order. Nice!
Tuesday the store was open and Kevin and I borrowed Sandy’s truck and did a load to the storage unit. Made some good progress and it is getting filled up.
A woman lost her wallet in my store and we had not been able to find it. Well, while manning the store on Wednesday, Riki came up to the front counter with a “found” wallet. Score!
There was quite a bit of cash in it and I immediately thanked Riki for being such a good samaritan. Here is Riki checking out after shopping. Now, to get the wallet back to Norma. I have called and left a message.
Time for an eBay score. I bought this little paperweight at a garage sale for $1. Just sold it for a best offer of $60 and it is going to Canada.
Funny story, I had just physically moved this item from the store to my storage unit and remembered putting it into a coffee mug. Made it easy to find!
Click here to see original listing.
Interestingly enough, that paperweight is going to a lady in White Rock, BC. My best friend from high school, Melanie and I used to go up there all the time in the summer.
You see the drinking age was only 19. We would always head to the Ocean Beach Hotel (The OB as it was known) which had a nightclub on the main floor. My boyfriend was the DJ. Oh, those were the days!
Today, Xander, Kevin, Barb and I will be attempting to move 4 more Costco shelves. I so appreciate all of the help! Wish us luck! The back eBay room is really clearing out. This is becoming REAL!
Wednesday was Tracey’s last day….I am getting a bit emotional over here. But somehow, I convinced her to come in for an hour today 🙂 hahahaha!
Like Sandy always says, “you can check in to Lynn’s Consignments…but you can never check out.”
Also on Wednesday, a quick visit from Joanne. You know, it was almost EXACTLY 8 years ago today when I dropped off Indiana at Pepperdine and my mom and I made our way up the coast to check out Ventura.
I fell in love with Ventura and decided to open my store here (I had been looking in Palm Desert for space). But realized that I needed to be closer to both kids.
I was racking my brain because I knew that I knew a realtor in that area who could help me secure a spot. Finally, it dawned on me….Joanne Carolan…who had been my roommate in Madrid on the USC semester.
Here we are…..then & now! Love you Jobird!
From left to right, Joanne, Chris Wade, me, Ed Rogers and Hilary Joslin. What fun times!
Hey Chris Wade….where have you been?
OK, The store has been super fun & busy lately….especially considering that you only have 7 more days to shop. Get in here!
I met a lovely French Bull Dog today named Margie who just loved to get some treats and water. You do know that dogs are ALWAYS welcome!
Before I forget, the cutest mom was in buying bone china plates and teacups as a birthday gift for her daughter (her daughter’s birthday is at the end of September and she will be five). Xander was helping me pack them, but we got busy and distracted and did NOT pack 6 of the cups.
Because her daughter’s birthday wasn’t for quite some time, I thought she may not even open the box and check. I was mortified and couldn’t figure out how to reach her. I decided to take a photo and post it on Instagram. Thank God for social media!
About 2 hours later, I got a message. She follows the store! Praise the Lord!
Now, if I can just get that wallet back to the other lady…..working on it!
For my consignors, here is more info about the closing.
This has been an incredibly difficult decision for me. Here are the details of the closing process for my consignors.
4.) I will be writing final checks on 8/25 and you can pick up or I will mail out after the store’s closing. Please get your name on my check writing list by calling the store.
