Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #21…

June 25, 2020
Watch for it every Thursday or every OTHER Thursday!
Actually, I am changing it to FRIDAYS!
Volume I  Issue 21

As you are reading this, my mom has arrived back in Ventura.  She returned to Washington state back in early March, right after our 2nd-anniversary party, and has not been able to get back here due to the pandemic.  Stop in and say Hi!  She will be in the store on Friday and Saturday.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to fill out our survey regarding hours!  We have drawn a winner of the $25 gift certificate and it goes to……drum roll, please…..Cherie Bouchard!  There is a $25 credit waiting for you in your customer account.  See you soon!

I am thinking about being Closed Mondays and Tuesdays and open Wed through Sat 11 to 5:30 and Sun 11 to 3.

Or Closed Mondays.  Open  Tues-Thurs 11 to 3 and Fri-Sat 11 to 5:30 and Sun 11 to3.

I just think it is getting too confusing!

For now, we are sticking with Tues to Sun 11 to 3.

We do stay late if there are customers so if you are in the area check us out to see if we are still open after 3 pm.

It’s been pretty quiet around here. Lots of great furniture coming in, but not so many of you customers….Please let us know what we can do to make you feel more comfortable…..

In my Time Hop from 4 years ago, there was a picture of Indiana surprising my dad.  It was super hot in Palm Desert…like 110 degrees…so my mom flew Indy and me up there to get out of the heat.  We didn’t tell my dad because well…he is super fun to surprise (ughhh I need to make that past tense) He was super fun to surprise.  I love this look on Indy’s face when she walked into his den to say “Howdy”.  And he responded with his famous line….”What in the World?”  Miss hearing that……

While we were in Bellingham, I started looking for retail space for my Lynn’s Consignments store.  Bellingham was my first choice.  Isn’t that crazy?  Life works in mysterious ways, doesn’t it?  I am sooooo glad that I ended up in Ventura or I would have been too far away from my kids!

While scoping out retail locations we came across these two streets that intersect…super close to my grandmother’s antique store (literally about a block away).  I had no idea that these intersected when we named our daughter Indiana Elizabeth.  Wow!

OK, time for an eBay score.  Check out this Villeroy & Boch Gravy Boat that sold for an asking price of $127 less 10%.  I LOVE Villeroy & Boch.  If anyone has pieces of V&B to sell, I am INTERESTED!

BTW, I tried to buy Villeroy & Boch when we were visiting Houston in Heidelberg three years ago.  He was doing his sophomore year abroad with Pepperdine.  Even though V&B is a German company, the pieces were way more expensive over there than I can buy them here.  Very strange!

Here is a photo of the exact same pattern from the Villeroy & Boch Outlet store on the Hauptstrasse in Heidelberg.  Hauptstrasse translates to Main Street!  A dinner plate goes for almost $100.  Yikes!

Here is a photo of Houston and the “Milchmen” after a schnitzel dinner out.  That year abroad was such a great experience and he came home with his core group of best friends.  The boys call themselves the “Milchmen” (long story) and then of course there is Noel.

Pictured from Left to Right, Noel, Indiana, Riley, Houston, Alec, Logan, and my mom.  We had sooooooo much fun visiting him!   This was February of 2017.

Back to the store!  We have been getting in some really great high-end consignments.  Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Ethan Allen, etc., etc.  You must stop in or shop us online.  We try and get photos up on the website immediately!  But it doesn’t always happen and some things sell before they even get through the back door.

Check out this awesome Restoration Hardware Side Board.

We got in a couple of truckloads of furniture this week.  Here are the boys and Sandy after moving a ton of stuff!  I would say they look a bit worn for the wear.  This back corner of the store has been fully gutted as we prepare for a truckload of high-end home furnishings arriving later today!   It’s gonna be WILD!
How cute is this Oxford Navy Wall shelf that just came in?  It even says VENTURA!!!!

Time for an eBay score!

Well, I am hoping that this is an eBay score in the making.  I listed this item for one of my consignors (Fern) to see if maybe we could get more for it online than in the store.  I rarely do this and only did it this time because Fern is just too sweet!  No bids yet and I am very surprised by that.  But there are two days left!  Check out this deck of cards with Movie Stars from the 1932 Olympics here.

Oh, that reminds me.  Movie Stars…..Indiana was featured on the Pepperdine Theatre Instagram Page today!  I am so proud of her.  Check her out!

Time for some more views of the store.  No, better not.  It really is a mess waiting to be Tszujed this weekend.  Come on in and see us in the wild, Tszujing away.  LOL.

Tszuj

Verb…….To tweak, fluff, primp, improve, make fabulous (most often in wardrobe/fashion context, but others also apply).

Pronunciation: Begins and ends with the same “zh” sound, as in “measure”.

Made popular by/notable people you may have heard use it:  Carson Kressley of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Speaking of “Queer Eye”, on a recent episode, they featured Kazi Baskets!  How cool is that?  We have special ordered a few of these baskets from Kazi’s “Queer-Eye” collection and they are in stock and ready to be checked out.  Fun Fun!

OK, time for a fun story!  Well, I think it is fun.  My friend Joanne asked me when she and her husband Jeff could come over and hang out on my deck and have some drinks.  Anytime!  So they came over last Sunday and I invited Steve and Sandy.  It was super fun!

Check us out!  And Jeff and Joanne even helped put together my hammock…it took three USC grads an hour to do it!  LOL.  And Joanne and Jeff’s daughters even took Carlos out in his harness.

OK, time for another eBay score!  Yes, this sold for the asking price of over $17.  If this doesn’t make you believe that you can sell ANYTHING on eBay, then I have no idea what will.

Check out that listing here.

We just got in some super neat shepherd’s bags, coin purses, pillow covers, letter holders, and iPad cases from Turkey.  They are handmade from Kilim and will make great gifts.  Reasonably priced between $12.95 and $29.95.

Now that we are open again, we are getting in new stuff every day!  You must come in or check on our website because you know how fast stuff comes in and goes out!  There is a section under shop/online at the very bottom that shows New Arrivals.

Here is what that part of the page looked like today.

Here is a close-up of those red bucket/barrel swivel chairs and only $249.50 each.  These won’t last!
Check out this amazing Palette Knife painting (an original) by a very famous artist. His paintings are listed in the $5,000 range. This one is awesome and quite large. Great for your ski cabin. Priced to sell at $595.00.
Took my kids out to Brunch this past Sunday (Father’s Day) at Water’s Edge.  It was super nice to have breakfast in a restaurant!  And outside by the harbor was even better!
Back to the store. Not sure if I have already shown you this paint project….I don’t think I have so here goes! Sandy did this little dresser in Annie Sloan Oxford Navy with gold gilding and floral knobs. It is soooo pretty! $249.50.

Don’t forget that you can always order your paint supplies on our website.………

Lots of great paint colors in stock! And next time you are in, please ask for a free copy of her color chart as shown here….

My kids (well Houston in particular) have gone nutty for biking.  You can see him almost every day biking around Ventura.  He loves this city and all of the wonderful bike lanes.  Here are my kiddos last week when they popped into the store.

For father’s day, my mom asked me to please post a photo of her dad.  She requested this photo of  (from left to right) my dad, my mom’s cousin Donald, and my grandfather in front of their Pullman, WA apartment house where they lived when they were getting their masters from WSU.  They look like they had just gotten back from hunting.  My grandpa leaf was a HUGE hunter.  Mostly pheasant.  That is his bird dog Brit in the picture.  Pretty original huh?  Brit for a Brittany Spaniel?

Really missed my dad this father’s day. I hope all of you dads out there had a wonderful day!

A few nights ago, Carlos had been chilling on my bed, as he typically does.  I was working and went into the family room to say hi to Indiana.  She was working as well on her schoolwork and the room was pretty dark.  I notice that the screen door was open about 6 inches.  Where is Carlos?  Where is Carlos?

Checked my room and no cat.  Man is he sneaky!  He had slid the door open with his paw and we found him outside in the dark under the picnic table.  We couldn’t grab him and he raced for the front gate. Ughhhhh!  Indy finally got him and he hissed at her.  I guess that cat really wants to be a hunter like my grandfather.  LOL.  But seriously, it scared us to death.

Found this funny framed piece of art that definitely got it right.

This piece of art reminded me of how “in” orange and blue are these days.  Annie Sloan featured a New York designer on her recent Instagram story and his NY kitchen is phenomenal.  I absolutely LOVE it!  Done in Annie Sloan Barcelona Orange and Napoleonic Blue.  Check it out!

Back to Carlos, because as you know, this is HIS CORNER.  Not Annie Sloan’s Corner.  But, just maybe, she does need her “own” section in my ezine.  LOL!

Carlos is enamored of Houston’s bicycle.  Here he is trying to help Houston replace the tape on the handlebars.  Houston does NOT look amused.

O.K. one last photo of Carlos the King chilling in my room.  I just couldn’t help myself.  LOL!  We love this kitty so much we are thinking about getting another one or a dog.  Thoughts?

I am going to end this ezine with one of my favorite photos from our 2 year anniversary at the store on March 1st, 2020.  The photo shows two of my best high school friends giving me a kiss.  Love these girls!  AND they flew down just for the party!  Now, those are great friends 🙂

Pictured…Jo Dallas, me and Kathy Rutan.

And, as an ending note, my Palm Desert best friends, Candy, Kel and Mo (I know I know it sounds like Manny, Mo and Jack) are heading out here next week for a beach retreat with my mama. I can’t wait to see my posse! Yay! Life is good and getting better!

Thanks for reading my ezines!  I appreciate it….as always!
