031325 Over the Rain! Lynn’s Latest #37

Just returned from the desert and it was super fun.  I brought back some nice artwork along with some other cool items.

Here I am meeting up with Indy last Friday on my way out of town.  When we got to the Starbucks in Sherman Oaks, Cha Cha went nuts!  She knew that we were meeting Indy (since that is where I usually hand her off) and she was sooooooo excited.

I took a little video of Cha Cha being so excited to see Indy, but my sweet (not so smart) Cha didn’t know which direction to look.  Cha Cha’s tail was going a 100 miles a minute and the arrow points to Indy’s Jeep….but the Cha was not looking in the correct direction at all.  Hahahaha!

Volume VI  Issue 000037

Once I left Indiana and Cha Cha I headed to the desert.  It only took me another 2 hours and I was in a rush to get to a church rummage sale before it ended.

I made it with plenty of time to spare!  Here is what the sale looked like as I “approached”.  LOL.

Love me a good “rummage” sale!  I was looking for unique items for the store, dinnerware and flatware sets for eBay and artwork…also for the store.

When I saw these two flatware sets, I had to laugh.  Amateurs who try and price collectible ultimately make mistakes.  Lucky for us!

Notice the gold electroplate set they were able to identify and found a set of 4 pieces “selling” on eBay for $24.99.  I put the “selling” in quotes because it is an asking price not an actual “sold” listing.  Big difference.

Then they said “Our set is much bigger $50.00”.  But right above that set was a stainless Stanley Roberts HUGE set of Jefferson Manor for only $15.00.

Score, I sell Jefferson Manor really well and the dinner fork alone is worth $19.99!

In honor of my epic purchase for only $15.00, let’s check out a flatware score from this week.

Bought a huge set of Oneida colored flatware at Angel View in Palm Desert about 2 years ago for $19.99.

Just sold these 4 Oval Place Soup Spoons for $52.79.  Check out the listing here.

After that Church Rummage Sale I headed to my favorite thrift stores.  At the Restore (Habitat for Humanity) I was appalled to see these two McKenzie Child pieces priced at $70.00 for the two…..Seriously, what is the world coming to?

I thrifted all day Friday, then made plans to hit estate sales on Saturday morning.  The first one I went to I walked in and saw a very familiar man.  I looked at him and said “You are Adrian’s dad” and he said “You are Houston’s mom”.  LOL.  Small world.   We did live in the desert for 16 years!  LOL.

Houston and Adrian were great buddies and had gone to high school together at Xavier College Prep.  Adrian almost attended Pepperdine with Houston.  I still exchange Christmas Cards with the Davila family so it was great to see him and catch up!

Saturday evening, I had plans to hang out with Sandra (my former neighbor) and retail mentor.  She is a wealth of information and I really enjoy our discussions.  Also, she makes a killer drink called the “French Boy”.

However, that is “her” name for it.  It’s bar name is “French Connection” and she never measures.  She just pours….LOL.  It is Grand Marnier 1st and then Brandy.  So delicious!

After Sandra’s house, I went to Rubios to grab dinner.  I used to go to Rubios with my ex-husband in La Jolla years ago and it is one of my favorites.  Unfortunately, the ones in Oxnard and Ventura closed so I was thrilled to find one in Palm Desert.

Time for an eBay score.  Speaking of going to Rubios years ago, I bought this set of china years ago!  I have had it listed on eBay for 10 years and I am not proud of that fact.

However, these three demitasse cup and saucer sets FINALLY sold for a best offer of $75.  I will take it!

Check out the listing here.

On Sunday, both Mo and Kel had the day off so we made super fun plans.  We made a brunch reservation at Le Vallauris in Palm Springs for noon.  Unfortunately, we did not take into consideration daylight savings time.  Ughhhhh!  I hate it when the clocks go that direction :).

The brunch at Le Vallauris is unlimited champagne and a three course meal that you pick from their set menu.  I chose the caesar salad, the flat steak and an amazing ice cream desert.  It isn’t cheap….$79 per person, but such a treat!

Here are Kel and I after with our leftovers…and yes you always have a lot of leftovers from this place.

The Palm Desert girls and I did more thrifting on Sunday and called it a day.  I left the desert early Monday morning to drive into Brentwood to pick up Cha Cha from Indiana.

Indy was training at the Cafe Luxxe location on San Vicente right next to Chin Chins.  Guess where Cha Cha and I went for lunch?  We LOVE their Chinese chicken salad.  I have been going to Chin Chins since 1985 when I graduated from USC (and lived in an apartment right behind the restaurant on Dorothy Street)…. so OMG that is 40 years…What the heck?

Needless to say, Cha Cha was exhausted from her 4 days with the girls and Grandpa (Emma’s dachshund) and was very happy to get home to Ventura….as was I.

Here is another eBay score that I came home to pack up and ship on Tuesday.  I have mentioned before that my grandmother LOVED lamp parts and I found a bunch of boxes of random parts.  I listed them all with Cindy’s help (miss you Cindy!) and this one just sold for a best offer of $36.  Sweet!

Check out the listing here.

As you know….We will not be carrying Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, Iron Orchid Designs or Redesign with Prima any longer.

We will be liquidating this stock and this week you can save 20% on any of these brands!

Susan had a great idea to shake the store up and relocate the crafty stuff to the back of the store.  This opens up a huge new vignette in the front by the register.  So excited to get decorating!  My inspo is outdoor and garden.

If you have anything that will work in the new space along those lines, please bring it in.  Larger pieces please text me photos first 760-880-3535.

Here is that area getting gutted and I do mean gutted.

Here is Martha working on organizing the new “craft area”. Thanks Martha!

As many of you know, Houston, is in his first year of law school at Pepperdine.  He is actively looking for a summer internship (preferably paid), but he is open to anything.

IN GREAT NEWS….Houston placed in the top 20% of the 1L (First Year Law Students) for grades!  I am so happy and proud of him!

If you or anyone you know may have something for him this summer, please reach out!  He is fine with either LA or Ventura.  If I do say so myself, he is extremely intelligent, hard working and a great writer.  He has all the hallmarks of becoming an excellent barrister.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with leads!  Here is a picture of Houston with my sister Kiki down at Lucci’s Restaurant in Bellingham.  This photo is bittersweet, because my sister passed away 13 years ago yesterday.  Miss her so much!

Whale redid the back wall display in the clothing section a few weeks ago.  It cracks me up and screams “Golden Girl”.  Thoughts?

Don’t forget about our Design Service.

Here is a before and after from a design job Santa Paula.  I love how updated and fresh it looks!

And for the first person that contacts us for a design job, we will waive the $50 initial consult fee.  So email or text away 760-880-3535!

Susan and I can’t wait to get started on your redo!

As I mentioned, I am OVER the rain. We brought in a truck of furniture yesterday morning because it wasn’t supposed to rain until the afternoon….but NO! It was pouring at 10:30 am.

Oh well….at least we have new items for y’all to check out!

Nice Throw Pillows

I have had a pretty low key week since I returned on Monday afternoon. I did get my hair done on Tuesday, so that was fun! Thanks Kelli!

And then last night, Wednesday, Sandy and I went to Fit Buddha and then headed to the Saloon for their happy hour.  Love their $5 French Fries!  As we were sitting there, we saw one of our favorite customers/consignors walk past, Eddie!

We yelled for him to stop in and we ended up hanging out with him for a while.  He was on his way to watch the KU (Universtiy of Kansas) basketball game (his alma mater).  So fun!  Eddy and his wife Denise are the best!

The store desperately needs someone to help move and put together furniture.  If you know of anyone, please reach out!
