007325 Design, Disasters, & Dancing….Lynn’s Latest #52

It has been a week.  Some fun things, some work things and some Cha Cha things!  You won’t even believe it!

What should I start with?….the new design job, the dancing & dear friends, the disasters or the dumping of more inventory into the store?

Let’s start with last Thursday!  One of my FAVORITE consignors ever came into the store.  She lives in Santa Monica and pays for an uber trip up to the store.  We LOVE you Yvonne!

When she saw me she said, “You ruined my trip to Europe” and I said “Why?” and she said “I got your email about the store closing while I was in Budapest…actually I was on the bridge between Buddha and Pest and I started crying”…Seriously?  She was serious.  I love this lady!

Volume VI  Issue 000052

So, since we were just talking about Buddha….I have to tell you about my friend’s Fit Buddha Lagree Studio (Marc who I went to USC with and his family).

I know I talk about it A LOT, but they have just gone through a total upgrade.  The space looks amazing and they had a Senior Master Lagree Trainer come in and do an intensive training session.  If you want to try Lagree (which I seriously recommend) I can get you a free class!  YES!

But, here is what the new upgraded space looks like.

So, in case you don’t remember, my original eBay assistant (from 25 years ago & one of my best friends) Mo arrived on Tuesday to help me with the store and eBay.

After Yvonne visited us in the store, Mo and I finished with work at 3 pm and headed to some thrift stores in Oxnard.

We needed more art for the store and flatware to list on eBay.  As we walked into the Arc on Oxnard Avenue….you will not believe who was checking out….Yvonne!  What the Heck? We all laughed so hard!  What a small world!  And great minds think alike!

After that close encounter of the 3rd kind, Mo and I stopped off at BJ’s for happy hour.  Seriously?  I have never been there before (but Cindy who was my eBay assistant here in Ventura loved that place) so we checked it out.

$20 later we had both had dinner and a few drinks.  What a score!

Mo and I got back to my house on Thursday night around 6 pm and I wanted to show her some of the videos that I had put on a thumb drive for a Christmas gift.  OMG, the “We are the World Video” that I did with my two best friends, Hank and DK (we met in Spain during our USC semester there) was hysterical.  She was so sweet to watch.

As we were watching, I was petting Cha Cha’s neck and OMG, I found a HUGE tennis ball size Cyst on her neck.  Now, we are talking DISASTERS!

What the heck?  Of course I freaked out and panicked, but when I squeezed it there was no pain and she was eating and drinking just fine.

On Friday morning (after Fit Buddha) I called Dr. McNeil and they were able to squeeze her in that afternoon.  Praise the Lord!

Here she is getting prepped for surgery.  Oh Cha Cha!

Time for an eBay score.  Remind me to NEVER EVER buy anything this large to sell on eBay EVER AGAIN!

I took a best offer of $60 and it was 18 1/2 by 14 1/2″ in size.

Click here to check out the listing.

I had a hard time finding a box for this one, but luckily had a box with bar stools in the back that worked perfectly.  We made a tiktok showing this one!  Always an adventure.

You can watch that short video here.

In case you missed my last few emails, we will be closing the store.  We have given 90 days notice to the management company and our final day will be August 25th.  More details later in the ezine.

Store is 10% off.  No extra discount off of the 20% Annie Sloan sale and no extra discount off of the 50% off clearance room.

We are still taking in new consignments and have been getting in some GREAT stuff every day!  Don’t miss out on these last few months of shopping at Lynn’s.

Speaking of videos, Houston has been shopping his life changing video to different outlets and check out these responses…..so proud of him!

This one is from bikepacking.com.

And this one talks about a story he pitched to Outside….”What it Means to Vlog Your Own Death.”  Crazy!

Wow, did I go off on a tangent and left you hanging about Cha Cha.  She came through the surgery just fine.  They thought that she may have eaten some sticks (surprise surprise) that may have lodged in her throat.

But Dr. McNeil found no evidence of that once she sedated her and got in there.  So, they just drained the blood etc. and sent her home with draining tubes.  GROSSSSSSSSS!

She may have also been bitten by a bug or been scratched by a cat with bacteria in their claws.  But, we will never know.

An idea, you know how some people put cameras on their animals, maybe I should put a camera on the Cha?  It would definitely be interesting.  Here she is recovering on my front porch.

Friday, Mo and I worked all day at the store and I continued working on the floor plan for the design job that Susan and I would be installing on Tuesday, July 1st down on the Lanes here in Ventura.

I had made a mistake in my measuring and needed an eraser.  Of course, there are no more erasers anywhere anymore.  And then I remembered a little box of “this-n-that” from my grandma and grandpa.

My grandfather was an architect and voila, in one of the drawers marked “erasers” I found an old, icky eraser, but it worked!

It was quite the Grandpa, “Elmer Leaf” day because later that afternoon, we sold a bench that he had made by hand back in the 1940’s.  Pretty cool!  I didn’t want it anymore and it went to a good home!

Friday night, Mo and I stopped off at Prime for happy hour on the way home.  I really needed that Martini after the day with Cha Cha.  We made it a very quick stop so that we could get home and take care of the patient.

Time for another eBay score before we get to the rest of my weekend.  LOL.  Always something going on…..

Sold these brand new Tommy Bahama pants that I bought for $20 in Palm Desert years ago.  Took a best offer of $60.

Love selling clothing because it is easy to store and ship.   Check out the listing here.

Friday night, the rest of the Palm Desert girls, were arriving for the weekend.  Candy and Kel arrived about 8:30 and they went out to dinner with Mo.  I stayed home to tend to my sick puppy.

We had plans all weekend and I wasn’t sure that I would be able to leave Cha Cha alone.  She was on antibiotics and pain pills so I was hopeful that we wouldn’t have to change our plans.  She really was so good through all of this trauma.

Saturday, we headed to the store for the girls to shop and then we went to “The Lookout” for lunch.  Love that place and especially Amy the bartender.

Then we ubered to The Rudder Room to sit on the beach with our toes in the sand.  Love that place.

Sunday, I raced to the store to pick up a white slipcover that needed to be cleaned for our design job.  Never a dull moment.  It turned out amazingly well and I can’t wait to show pics of the Beach House design job….so cute!

Sunday afternoon, the girls and I went to Harbor Cove Cafe for a leisurely lunch.

The big plans for the weekend were Sunday night when we would be heading to Tony’s Pizza to meet up with Sandy for the Kane Brown concert!

Sendia was supposed to go with us, but her oncologist recommended not going…so it made us all a bit sad.

Mo and I had taken her flowers on Thursday to cheer her up and she sent the loveliest text back.  We LOVE that lady!

And as Sendia says, “prayers are always welcome”.

Then on our way to Tony’s Pizza, Sandy called to tell me that she had ordered 100 “Beat Ovarian Cancer” Bracelets to hand out at the concert.  If that wasn’t the sweetest thing and it made me cry.  We were missing our friend that night, but we KNOW she is going to beat this!

The concert was amazing and we all had so much fun!  Although, it was chilly!

And I did do quite a bit of dancing!  I will share this photo even though I look ridiculous, I was having a blast….

When I look at this picture of me dancing now and the one 40 years ago with Hank and DK…I kind of dance the same way.  Am I wrong?

Before I get to our very successful design install that took place onTuesday, let me give you an update on Indiana.  She and Larissa are currently vacationing in Maine and having the time of their lives.

This is Larissa and her college roommate (not Indiana) on the dock of the Airbnb that they stayed in for the week.  I LOVE that my daughter enjoys traveling as much as her mama!

The day after the Kane Brown Concert (which was Monday), the girls (Kel & Candy) left to head back to Palm Desert.

Mo stayed to help me get more stuff off of eBay and into the store.  Thanks Mo!

Once the other girls left, Mo and I went to Fit Buddha and then Martini Monday with Marc.  Always fun!

Except this time he called it “Motini Monday” in honor of Mo.  LOL.

Let’s get to that design job!  Here are the before pictures.  This is the second job that we have done for this family.  The first one was at their main house in Yorba Linda.

This one is at their house on the Lanes here in Ventura.

Here are Susan and I ready to unload the Uhaul at the design install.  Adolio & Paul were supposed to be there, but there was a family emergency (Prayers to Adolio & his wife) and Susan’s entire family stepped up!  We LOVE the Wheelans!

Here are Susan’s son, Bronson, and his girlfriend, Rae after helping us to unload the truck and place everything in the house….including hanging drapes!  Thanks kids and Brad (Susan’s Husband)!

Here is the final reveal.  I am so happy with the way it turned out and Susan did an amazing job (as she always does)!  We are still going to be doing design jobs long after the store is closed.  Please reach out if you have something we can help you with!

Watch a Tiktok tour of the design job here.

In case you are curious about how much something like this may cost…this entire design job was only $3,598 and that included all of the furniture and our design fee.  Seriously?

An entire room redo for less than $4k.  If you are not calling us for your next design job, you are missing out!

Here is a text we got from the home owners….

OK, as I finish up this ezine on Wednesday night, I must share the crazy evening I had last night.

Mo, Sandy and I did Fit Buddha after the store closed and then went to the Saloon for dinner.   We met up with Kelly and her husband Vinnie….we LOVE them!  Kelly was one of my first consignors.

When Mo and I got back to my house, we took Cha Cha on a walk.  The house two doors down from mine has a Pit Bull that is always trying to break down the wooden driveway gate to come at my dog.

I am always scared to walk past that house and I walk really quickly.  I always have a plan in mind to pick up Cha Cha and throw her over our fence in case that dog gets out.

I don’t know if you remember, but over the past 2 years there has been a dog in our neighborhood that has jumped a fence and attacked Cha Cha twice.  The first time it happened because I had no clue what was happening.  The second time I grabbed Cha Cha and screamed at the dog.  She was NOT attacked that 2nd time.

Tonight, that Pit Bull came charging out of the front door (the owners did not even have it on a leash) and it came running like a bullet towards the Cha….another disaster about to happen.

But I went into Killer Mom mode…started screaming at the dog…”Stay the Fuck away from my dog” and was ready to kick her…sorry survival mode and yelled at Mo to help me.

OMG, for whatever reason, that dog went back into the house.  I seriously don’t need this many adrenaline rushes in one day.  I will elaborate on that in the next ezine, but just be prepared.  Cha Cha is fine and this is what that Pit Bull looked like coming for my dog.

I want to also say that I have known some amazing Pit Bulls…my sister Kiki had a Pit Bull mix that was the most amazing dog I have ever met.  Just saying…a lot of it is up to the owners.

OK thanks for following along with my crazy life.  Again, I am in desperate need of storage space for my eBay business.  Ideally, I need about a 20′ by 20′ space.

Does anyone have a barn, empty garage (I have had my entire eBay stock in a residential garage before), warehouse or other empty space for me to lease at a reasonable price?

I have been calling storage units, but they are like the worst salesmen in the entire world and try and keep you on the phone for hours.  I do NOT have that time.  Anyone out there have a great storage unit business that they would recommend?

Please spread the word.  Thanks!

Back to the store…..For my consignors, here is more info about the closing.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision for me. Here are the details of the closing process for my consignors.

You will still receive payment for these items.

After, June 30th, we will go back to the traditional Wednesday check writing day.
An update on my nephew, Zach. He is currently in Lakehead, CA. Where in the world is that Zach? It looks like he is getting closer to the California/Oregon border.

Here is a picture from Zach’s trek. So proud of this kid! Way to go Zach! The part about him looking like a bum is very true…..
