101024 Day Drinking & Design Jobs…Lynn’s Latest #000016

Hi!  Happy Thursday!  The day my last ezine came out was Cha Cha’s Gotcha day 4 years ago!  I think we picked a good one…What do you think?

Volume V  Issue 000016

We have been jamming with our design business.  On Friday, Susan and I headed to Pasadena to do a design consult at a friend from USC’s house.

It is going to be a fun one because she is very traditional and loves gold, Ethan Allen and all things Old Pasadena.

Here is a shout out…We are LOOKING for traditional pieces…

Round dining table
6 Dining chairs
Small Sectional Sofa
2 Side Tables
2 Swivel barrel chairs
Table Lamps
Artwork..maps etc.
Floor lamps
Ceiling Fixture

Let me know if you have any of these pieces.  Thanks!

Here is a before picture of the room.

After our design stop, we headed into downtown Pasadena to visit another friend of mine from USC, Hank Maarse.

Hank’s family owns Jacob Maarse Florist and it is such a great store!  Susan was impressed and Hank took us both out to lunch.  I did have a Margarita at lunch since Susan was driving.  Day Drinking is Fun!

I had done Fit Buddha that morning at 9:15 and we rushed from Fit Buddha to get to Pasadena on time so that explains my Weird outfit!

Here is a fun picture of Hank, me and D.K. back in the day.  Two of my best guy friends from USC.  We were all on the Spain Semester together.

We used to plan elaborate events for each of our birthdays.  This particular year for my birthday they got a limo (that is why D.K. in a tux) and then they took me up in a Helicopter all over LA.  Epic days!

I just found these pictures from that night and had to add them to the ezine. My outfit was pretty cute, but WTF was I wearing for shoes/boots?  LOL!

OMG…seeing these pics reminded me that when I went to the restroom that night, Tina Louise (who played Ginger on Gilligan’s Island) was in the restroom and I said to her “You have been a great role model for me as a redhead because I got so teased as a kid” and her response was sooooooo rude… I don’t remember it exactly, but it was NOT nice.

Here is a story from my first “100 Best Book” about a Christmas Figurine that I sold for A LOT of money because of something I learned at Jacob Maarse Florist.

We returned from Pasadena in time for me to work the afternoon shift at the store.  Long day, but productive!

Saturday, I was supposed to go and see Indy’s Imrov show at Pepperdine, but she wasn’t feeling well and cancelled.

What was I going to do with an entire Saturday off?  I decided to clean my garage.  I have a single car garage at my house and it desperately needed some TLC.  I do have quite a bit of eBay stuff in there and I couldn’t get access to it.

Check out the dangerous before (Adolio and Sunny are the ones that rigged that wall of boxes for me and it didn’t hold up so well LOL) and the after photo!

Then Indiana came home on Sunday with Larissa.  They got here just in time for dinner down at my new favorite place, Harbor Cove Cafe.

We took the Cha down there with us and had a great dinner.  I love how their menu is very tiki bar in look and appearance.

We didn’t get a picture at dinner so took one when we got back home.  Love having the girls in town!

Time for an eBay score before I get to our CRAZY Monday!  Mo bought this for me out in the desert for $1.  Little trinket boxes can do really well.

I just sold one in the store today to Cherie (one of our favorite customers) and she bought it for her daughter.  Awwwww.

Here is a link to see the listing for this one.  It sold for $59.99….score!

Apparently, the “Old Lady” in the title is what really sold it.  Seriously?  Mo, did you really have to use that?  Hahahaha.

So on Monday, Susan and I were scheduled to drive to Yorba Linda for a design install that we have been working on.  All of a sudden, I had Indiana and Larissa in town unexpectedly and thought we should reschedule

Susan had a great idea…ask them if they want to go?  I thought no way.  But, I was pleasantly surprised when they replied with a resounding “YES!”.

Off we went to Yorba Linda on Monday morning.  We drove on some crazy freeways through some crazy towns…. City of Industry, Commerce, Anaheim, etc.

Here are the before pics of our most recent completed job.

Here are the after pictures.  It was a group effort with Susan taking the lead, her husband Brad, Indiana, Larissa and myself.

We got back from Yorba Linda at about 4:00 and went straight to Aloha for Happy Hour.  Long, but fun day!

Tuesday was Fit Buddha for Indy and myself and then a quick lunch at Nick the Greek.  And then an easy night at home with Indy completely cleaning the kitchen!  Love having her home.

Wednesday brought a lot of things!  Cha Cha was getting groomed and then at 1 pm I got a text from Chris Wade.  He said “Are you in the store?”.  Yes…I knew we were in for a fun day!

We always make fun about our “day drinking” LOL.  So he showed up and we had a glass of wine and he ended up spending almost $1,000.  Thank you friend!

Chris and I headed over to Prime for Happy Hour once the store closed.  In a really funny turn of events, one of my favorite customers, Jennifer, had been in the store earlier that day.

She and I always joke about how we see each other at Prime…but she said, “Oh no, we are all going to Rum Fish tonight.”

About 20 minutes after Chris and I arrived, in walks Jennifer….LOL.  Rum Fish wasn’t working out for them.  So Chris and I got a fun picture with Jennifer.

And then Jenn’s girlfriends arrived to celebrate their birthdays and Jennifer had purchased their birthday gifts and birthday cards at my store earlier that day.  So cool!  Here they are with their fun gifts!

100324 Honoring & Remembering Those We Have Lost…Lynn’s Latest #000015

Hi!  Happy Thursday!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #000015

Thursday, October 3rd, 2024
Volume V  Issue 000015

When I write these ezines, I always struggle with coming up with a catchy subject line.  I want you to open my emails and I think that you will be happy once you do.  But, there is that fine line between being overly dramatic to get you to click on it and just telling it like it is.

Example, this week I was going to have my subject line be…”New Front Window Looks Awesome”…Boring!

And then as I was writing the ezine, I realized that there was a common thread…”Honoring and Remembering Those We Have Lost”.

Please let me know your thoughts on how the subject line affects you.

Here are the two that we have lost that got me thinking about all of this….Val’s husband Ron and my sister Kiki…Sorry for the finger but that is what we all say to CANCER…

Thank you for letting me share that….It has been a nice restful week for me after a crazy week with friends & family.  I worked a lot and we redid the 2nd front window and it looks awesome!

We finally got rid of the greenery that was in the center of this window for about 3 years.  A whole new look!  I had Kevin hang a cool canvas picture with wire from the ceiling and it really makes a nice new statement.

Stop in or drive by to see it in person.  It looks even better.  Weds to Sat 11 to 5 and Sun 11 to 3.

Since I ended the last ezine with a photo of Indiana for National Daughter’s Day, Let’s start this one with a photo of Houston for National Son’s Day.

I LOVE this photo.  We were living in Bellingham, WA at the time, but were staying with my best friend from college, Juliette, in the Palisades and we were watching a USC football game.

William and I had just taught him how to make the sign for a touchdown and then taught him “we are number 1” so that is what he is doing and he was so proud of himself.  LOL!  Fight on!  Go Trojans.  We are having an incredible year!

Speaking of Indiana, she will be performing in the Pepperdine Improv Show on Saturday, October 5th at 2:30.  It is free for anyone that wants to join us and is always a fun time!

We have a new employee!  Tracy started last week and she has a great sense of style/design and is very handy.  She has single handedly refurbished vintage Trailers/RVs.  Pretty cool!

Stop in and say Hello!  She has an accent and I challenge you to guess where she is from originally.  Hahahaha.

Susan had a great idea.  Showcase happy customers in our newsletter.  OK!  So here goes…

This is Maia who just purchased this amazing fur lined jean jacket for under $40.

This is an unnamed shopper who picked up this canvas artwork for $12.40.  She was stoked!  How long has it been since I have used the word stoked?  LOL.

I did do one fun thing over the weekend.  We had a going away/retirement party for Cindy at the Harbor Cove Cafe.  I love this place!  The drinks are very tropical…almost like a Tiki Bar and the food is excellent!

We did take a pretty fun picture of the five of us on the deck.  We miss you Cindy!

From left to right, Peggy, Val, Cindy, me and Susan.

Before Cindy’s party, I had stopped at the Dollar General to buy some Congratulation Balloons for Cindy.  Unfortunately, they didn’t have many options.  I was able to buy her a “Party Animal” balloon (of which she is NOT) and a “Paw Patrol on a Roll” Balloon and some random stars in Pepperdine colors.  Sooooo funny!

Cindy loved the “Party Animal” balloon and Val took home the “Paw Patrol” balloon for her darling grandson Jackson.  Check them both out.  Who looks happier?

By the way, I love that Val’s husband Ron’s folded flag from his memorial service hangs on the wall behind Jackson.  We thank you for your years of service and miss you Ron Harrington!

Yesterday, should have been my sister’s double nickel birthday…55.  She passed away from cancer at age 42 and left her little boys, Zach then 5 and Kai then 3.

Zach just started his Freshman year at University of Washington and Kai is a Junior in High School in Mukilteo.  We all miss her so much!

I went to Fit Buddha last night with Sandy and then we had a beer in Kiki’s honor at the Saloon.  Salud!  I also ordered her an ice cream Sundae that came with a candle! And yes, we did sing “Happy Birthday” with Nikko’s help.

Never forget those who mean so much to us and try to honor them in little and big ways.

Time for an eBay score…Even with Cindy gone, I still have Mo, my original eBay assistant from like 20 years ago.

She goes out in the desert (where she lives) and sources for me and then lists!  It is a win-win.  She listed this Jars (a great brand made in France) set this past August and we just sold these 3 dinner plates for $122!  Score!

Here is a link to the listing.

Back to the store, one of our customers, Joanne, came in for Annie Sloan paint to paint an office chair.  She chose Louis Blue which is one of my favorite colors.

Here is the before of the desk chair.

Here is the after.  It was a free item left at the curb and I think it looks fantastic!

Don’t forget about our Design Service. We are finishing up a design job in Yorba Linda on Monday/Tuesday and then we have three more on the books. It has been a blast…Here is more info…

092624 I Need a Vacation from my Vacation…Lynn’s Latest #000014

Hi!  Happy Thursday!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #000014

Volume V  Issue 000014

Last Thursday, Indiana, Larissa and Emma came home to Ventura!  They even brought Grandpa.  Here are Cha Cha and Grandpa watching us leave for downtown.  So sad!

You can always tell when Indiana gets a hold of my social media…Things get fancy.  So funny!

We went out to Happy Hour at Casa Bella with Jo Dallas.  Super fun evening and they all spent the night!  Once again, we got our favorite server, Carl.

The next day, Indy had an appointment with an endocronologist that she asked me to attend.  After that, Jo and I packed up to head to the desert.

Luckily, Indiana and Larissa were going to watch the Cha Cha for me and since they were in Ventura we did not have to drive her to the Marina.  Score!

Speaking of scores, time for an eBay one.  I bought this flatware at a thrift store for $14.95 and have already sold 8 pieces of it at auction for $93.95.  We don’t usually sell many things at auction, most sell at a fixed price, so this was fun!

Check out one of the listings here.

Since Cindy has retired, I am now doing all the shipping and listing.  I had to laugh when I pulled the Longwood to ship and it looked really familiar.  LOL…it was the pattern we chose for our Wedding everyday stainless.

I am missing some pieces and will probably fill in with what is left, but when a dinner knife lists for $25.99 I kind of think I can get by.  Hahaha.

It reminded me of how much I enjoyed doing my bridal registry.  I found a story in my “3rd 100 Best Book” that talks about that so will share it now.

Back to the desert trip, Jo and I arrived at about 4 pm to Mo’s condo in Palm Desert.  Kel and Candy joined us for some drinks and then we headed to Skip’s Little Bar for dinner.  One of my favorite places.  Lots of laughter and good stories.

The next day we went to garage and estate sales. Pretty slim pickings so we hit some thrift stores. We ended up at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants for a late lunch…shrimp cocktail and some libations. The USC Michigan game had just started so that was fun to watch…in the beginning.

After lunch, Jo and I headed to Rancho Mirage to visit with my former neighbor, Sandra.  I have spoken about Sandra many times as she is retail royalty to me and I really value her advice.  She is also one of my first consignors who sent Harry the horse with me when I opened.  How many of you remember Harry?  He went from a garden view in Rancho Mirage to the front window of my stotre to an ocean view in Malibu!

After visiting Sandra, Jo and I went to The Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner.  It brings back great memories of when I used to go there with my parents and siblings back in the day in Portland.

Sunday we headed into Palm Springs to do some more thrifting and to take my mom’s cousin Gwen to lunch at Billy Reeds.

Gwen’s nephew, Paul, joined us and it was a blast.  Paul and I are related as distant cousins somehow.  LOL.

That night we went to see the Reagan Movie and ended up taking the most random Uber home from the movie theater.  It was like a Bachelorette Party Bus.  Hahahaha.

Monday, Jo and I headed out to West LA to pick up the Cha.  The girls did NOT want to give her up.  Funny, the Cha was way happier to see Jo Dallas than me.  Cha Cha would not leave Jo alone and Jo was driving.  LOL.

We arrived back to Ventura about 4 pm and decided to relax that evening…what is that?

Tuesday, Jo helped me ship at the store (thank you!) and then I did Fit Buddha.  Jo left that afternoon and I went to meet my friend, Janette, for happy hour.  It was a super fun 7 days with Jo in town, but I am ready for a vacation from my vacation…..Back to work so that I can relax!

I do have to say one thing about Jo Dallas.  She has a heart of gold and when she visits she just wants to help.  She is a great help at the store, at my house, helping me file and finding things that have sold on eBay.

An example of her kindness.  She shared some bubble gum with the girls when they were here last week.  The girls LOVED it.   So, what does Jo do? She ships six boxes to them at their Marina del Rey Condo…anonymously mind you.

Check out Indy’s text.  She is flying to Maryland today for a music festival with Larissa and Emma.  Maryland?

Time for another eBay score…I bought this at a local garage sale here in Ventura for about $25.  I took a best offer of $175 for it and think it is a fitting score to share since it is the last thing that Cindy shipped for me before retiring.  Soooo sad!  I miss her.

We are having a small going away party for her this Sunday at the Harbor Cove Cafe (I love that place)!

Here is a link to check out that listing for the artwork.

My Casita is available to rent month to month if you know of anyone.  Email me if you have any questions.

Time for another eBay score!  Coffee mugs sell really well. And these are by a famous California Potter.  These two mugs sold for $55.  I bought a huge set of Heath Pottery in Palm Springs back in December and paid $25 for the set!   Check out the listing here.

There is a story in my “2nd 100 Best Book-Money Making Madness” about the similarities between Edith Heath and my grandmother.  I think I will share that with y’all now.

Don’t forget about our Design Service.
