My Dog Ate My Homework…Lynn’s Latest #29

There hasn’t been an ezine for 3 weeks….My dog ate my homework (now I know that this could really happen) and my computer was in the shop for a week!

It has been a challenge to get anything done with a Puppy in the house.  But she is soooooo worth it!  We love her and she and Carlos have been having a BLAST!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #29…

October 30th, 2020
Watch for it every Friday or every other Friday!
Volume I  Issue 29

We have had Cha Cha for 4 weeks now!  And she is 12 weeks old.  She seems so much bigger already.  When we got her she weighed 11.1 pounds and today at her Vet appointment she weighed 17 pounds!  What is the World?  That is something my dad ALWAYS said.  I miss him!  I think he would love Cha Cha and Cha Cha him.

In June of 2016, Indiana and I flew up to Bellingham to see my mom and surprise my dad.  Indy and I had a bet riding on what he would say when he saw her.  Hands down, we knew it was going to be “What in the World?” and that is exactly how she reacted when he said it!  I LOVE THIS PICTURE!  Miss you Papa!

I think it is time for an eBay score.  Don’t you?  This is another of those “What in the World?” moments.

Every once in a while you stumble upon a set of dinnerware in an extremely desirable pattern.  That is what happened here.  This Mikasa High Spirits pattern is very 1980’s and quite in demand.  I took the best offer on these three little sauce bowls of $100!  Check them out here.  As my grandmother would say, “I laughed all the way to the bank”.

The Palm Desert girls were out to visit twice in October!  Do you get the idea that they may like Ventura?  Or is it just too hot in the desert?  Probably a bit of both.  And they actually had ulterior motives.   My best friend Mo was moving into a new condo and they came out to help her pick out furniture from………ME and my store!

It was super fun to see them so much and over the course of those two trips, Mo managed to find a leather Natuzzi sofa, two mid-century style rocking chairs, dining table, dining chairs, oversized armchair, end tables, lamps, buffet, outdoor furniture, bed, dresser, console and accent chair, etc., etc.  Amazing, but TRUE!  You can furnish an entire home at Lynn’s!  Check us out!

Candy’s husband Ron was a darling and drove a borrowed trailer that they pulled out for us to load on a Wednesday.  They would load Wednesday, spend the night and return Thursday.  It would have been way too much to do in a one-day round trip.

Thank goodness Wayne was there that day as he used to load trailers for the movie industry for a living.  The trailer got packed incredibly well.  Here are a few shots of the “during”.

Here is the gang once it was all loaded.  It does take a Village!

From Left to right, Candy, Adolio, Val, Sunny, Mo, Ron, and Wayne.

Unfortunately, that Wednesday was a super busy one for me (Hahahaha what day isn’t super busy?).  We had gotten in two truckloads of furniture that morning.  Praise the Lord that Indy came home that day to stay with Cha Cha because it was “all hands on deck”.

Luckily, the gang showed up around 1 pm to finish shopping and load up.  That way I could be there to help them.  I had to leave the store at 4:30 pm to head out to my friend Denise’s house for our monthly cocktail party which we hadn’t been able to have since March!  There was no way I could miss this special event.

Denise Angelini (interior designer extraordinaire) hosted us at her Camarillo home which is drop-dead GORGEOUS!  I was able to hang with the girls in this amazing setting until 6:30 when I had to leave to meet the Palm Desert bunch for dinner at Casa Bella.  Crazy day!  Here we are in Denise’s backyard.

The Palm Desert crew left on Thursday morning and arrived safely back in the Desert in about 3 1/2 hours.  Crazy…right?  Mo didn’t move in for another few days, but here is a photo of her living room with all NEW furniture!  How cute is that?

The store is PACKED…. I say PACKED with amazing gift items for Christmas!  It is soooooo exciting…..with new stuff arriving daily!

We have SIX Christmas trees up and are getting ready to get the new ornaments all to put out on them.

1. The upside-down white flocked tree is in the “Beachy” room with “Beachy” ornaments on it.

2.  There is a 7.5′ traditional green tree in the Kazi room with Kazi ornaments ready to adorn it.

3.  There is another 7.5′ traditional green tree in the gift section with Recycled Magazine Ornaments on it.

4.  There is a 9′ traditional green tree in the front window that will soon have mercury glass blown Old World Christmas ornaments on it…..

Which reminds me….look what is in stock!  Hurry in and get yours before they sell out!  For those of you who pre-ordered they will ship out on Tuesday.  and THANK YOU for your pre-orders!

If you can’t stop in to pick one up, you can always order here.

Check out these other darling Blown Glass Old World Christmas Glass Ornaments that are also in stock at $19.99 each.  LOVE these!  Again, they are all available online with more coming in next week.

But back to the Christmas Trees!  I am so excited for the holiday season!  It’s time to celebrate……

5.  There is a 7.5′ traditional green tree in the front window that will soon have bells and chime ornaments on it.

6.  There is another 9′ traditional tree in the front window that will have Ventura Spring Inspired ornaments…birds, hummingbirds, butterflies, etc.

Here is what that window looks like so far.  I am bummed that we haven’t been able to get the top of that second 9′ tree to light up.  Ughhhhh!  Hopefully soon!

Before I forget, we have a VERY special chair waiting in the front window for a VERY special guest.  If you have any youngsters that would like to see where a special guest will be visiting us closer to Christmas, please bring them by!  The little ones that have seen it so far, are filled with wonder and excitement.  Never too early to get in the spirit!

Just a reminder of our current store hours…..THESE HAVE BEEN MODIFIED
Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday 11 to 3 pm.
Wednesday, Friday & Saturday 11 to 5 pm.

We do stay late if there are customers so if you are in the area check us out to see if we are still open after 3 pm.

So, we bit the bullet and changed the front window to Turquoise Blue. Still looking for beachy turquoise items to fill it up. It isn’t quite there yet, but I will share a glimpse. This is NOT my final product!

In the last ezine, I asked which front window is your favorite so far?

Plain
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Turquoise

Not many of you responded, but the few who did all picked red!  Isn’t that crazy?  I wonder why?

OK!  Time for a potential score in the making.  This is currently at auction and the starting bid price is $59.99.  It has 38 watchers so far!  I bought it at our local Goodwill for $2.99.  It is seriously turquoise and should go in my new front window, but I will get way more for it on eBay!  Check it out here.  Don’t be afraid to bid on it 🙂

Soooooo many great things arriving in the store for the Christmas Season.  Check out these amazing kitchen utensils that retail for $9.95.  Almost sold out of them, but a new order arrives tomorrow!  Also, available for sale on our website.

Here is what this new line of Bamboo looks like in the store. Love the Cutting Boards in the shape of Surfboards and California!

Really missing my son these days and I think that is why I use y’all so much!  He is super busy teaching high school in OKC so I rarely hear from him.  I had already purchased his Thanksgiving plane ticket home…and then the airlines CANCELLED IT!  Ughhhh.  I had purchased him a direct flight round trip for $300 and now when I try and rebook the tickets are $600 with multiple layovers.  Not happy about this!

A year ago today, my mom and I were in OKC visiting Houston.  Isn’t it crazy how much can change in a year?  Here is Houston at the Gala celebration at his high school a year ago in front of the school mural and also with my mom and I.  Miss you Goose!

Houston successfully completed his first marathon last week.  He ran the 26.2 miles at 5:23:35 and burned 4,670 calories.  Seems to me that you would burn a lot more calories than that!  Emma was there and ran the last three miles with him  Congratulations Goose!

Time for an eBay score?  I think so!  But, this time I am going to share one of my mom’s scores.  What?  Yes!  My mom has been selling on eBay for almost as long as I have.  She is 84 years old and still pulls down about $3,000 a month.  She is a rock star!

This listing is for some dinnerware that she bought recently.  It is a very well-known brand and she has made a bank on it.  This listing sold for over $200.  Check out the listing here to learn more.

Tons of great furniture has been coming into the store.  This puppy has drastically changed my life and I am only in the store for two action-packed days lately.  That doesn’t give me much time to get the furniture photographed and uploaded to the website.  Soooooooo please stop in and check out the new inventory as most are NOT online.

Here are a few pieces that I was able to get photographed.

Here are a few more of the items that I was able to take some photos of and get to Emma for the website.

The high point of my October, besides getting a dog, was to be an employee retreat at Faria Beach.  It was my hope that Val, Sandy, Peggy, Cindy and I would spend a few nights bonding and resetting before the upcoming holiday season.

Enter Covid…..uggghhhh!  Way to put a monkey wrench in EVERYBODY’s plans.  Val could only be there for an afternoon….couldn’t risk taking any bug back to Ron.  Even though Ron has beaten cancer he is still doing some maintenance treatments and any risk is too big of a risk.  Totally get it!

Peggy and Wayne stepped up to keep the store open on Sunday over the retreat weekend so that we could enjoy.  We, being just me and our dog, LOL!

Sandy and Cindy were troopers and showed up for two of the days, but no overnights.  With my employee retreat up in arms….I enlisted some of my other Ventura Peeps and the evening one’s dinner was a success!

Check us out!  We did don the “Faria” Beach apparel for these fun shots.  Left to right Sandy, Steve, Gina Cole (Bless my Soul), me, and Joanne!  Joanne’s husband Jeff joined us for dinner later that night.

I have to say that my friend Steve is seriously the “dog whisperer”.  Cha Cha LOVED him.  Hopefully, he will dog sit someday.  Fingers crossed!

The next day was Cha Cha’s first beach walk with Sandy and Cindy!  Super fun.

On the last day, Monday, Val came out for the morning.  Darn it!  Did not get a photo of the two of us.  That afternoon, Wayne and his wife Donna showed up and hung out with Cindy and me.  Yay!

A few hours later, Indiana showed up with her friend George.  Sooo much fun!  George and Indy spent the night and my “dashed” employee bonding retreat turned out just fine!

OK, now for my final eBay score.  Not a huge dollar amount, but a collector’s plate from the early 1900’s by the same firm that made my mom’s great selling dinnerware.  Does anyone know the maker?  or do you have to peek at the listing to figure it out?  This plate sold for the best offer of $90 and I had paid $5 for it a few months ago.  Not bad!

Check it out here.

OK, this section is probably going to need a new name. Thoughts? Or should Carlos still have his own corner? And Cha-Cha gets her own space…The Challenges of Cha-Cha? The adventures of Carlos and Cha Cha?

Not sure if I have ANY photos of Carlos all by himself. That is pretty sad, isn’t it? Well, let me give you an update on King Carlos. If you recall, he always thought he was a dog. He plays fetch, pretends that he is a lap dog, and wants to go on walks. Here is an older photo of him retrieving a hair tie that I shot down the hallway….such a dog.

Now that Cha Cha has arrived, he has become even more of a  DOG.  I am not kidding.  He steals all of Cha’s toys from her and parades around the house with them.  He eats her food before she can and he is a sucker for dog treats.  I know I know, not a good idea!  I finally found some treats that are good for both cats and dogs.

I fill up the Kongs that I have and Carlos takes them first.  He literally fights (hisses and growls) at Cha Cha to keep the Kongs for himself.  WEIRD is all I can say.  I really must get some of this on video as it is UNBELIEVABLE.

Here is a photo of the two of them cuddling with Indiana.  How cute is this?

Here are Carlos and Cha Cha with George and Indiana back at our house.  Such silly new friends and soooooo cute!

Indiana has been trying to come home a few times a week to bond with her puppy.  Cha Cha is her ESA (Emotional Support Animal), but it has been really hard with her at Pepperdine full time.  The burden of training and taking care of Cha Cha has fallen to me.  I am doing a good job of taking care of her, but not such a great job of training her.  HELP!  We hired Stacy Ayud for a private lesson a few weeks ago. Stacy is INCREDIBLE!  I just need to have the time to work with Cha.  Not enough hours in the day, unless I stop sleeping….not gonna happen!

Anyway, check out this darling photo that Indy text me when she arrived home from Agoura Hills a few days ago.

One last photo that I took of Carlos and Cha Cha chilling in Indy’s room.  I had to share this one because it is SPOOKY!  Look at Carlos’ eyes.  HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I am going to wrap up this ezine with a photo of Indiana and her roommate Syd during a PIT show….Pepperdine Improv Troupe that took place last Friday night.  LOVE this image to send us off to a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Let me wrap this up with a HUGE thank you for your continued support of me and my small business!  You are keeping us going and my gratitude is immense! THANK YOU  THANK YOU!!!

OK, but wait.  As I was finishing this up they really did start to cuddle.  Cha Cha was cleaning Carlos’ paw and Carlos was cleaning Cha Cha’s paw.  I am totally serious.  Check it out!

Thanks for reading my ezines!  I appreciate it….as always!

I Just Gave Birth….Lynn’s Latest #28

Indy and I picked up our new Puppy this past Saturday.  My world as I know it will NEVER be the same

Her name is Cha Cha and she has stolen our hearts, our sleep, our sanity, and any type of rational thinking.  LOL!  Let’s just say that Carlos is not that happy about all of this & that is putting it mildy.

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #28…

October 9th, 2020
Watch for it every Friday or every other Friday!
(OK I am a day late AGAIN this week….Sorry it is Saturday this time)
Volume I  Issue 28

I am sure you can understand why this ezine is a day late….I did just give birth to a puppy.  Seriously though, it is just as much work as a newborn baby.  Y’all warned me, but I did it for my Indy girl.  She really needed this ESA (Emotional Support Animal).

Here she is as she makes her final decision.  It was grueling as we had 4 puppies to choose from.  How do you even do that?  The puppies all wore different colored collars so that you could tell them apart.

We had Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red to choose from.  We were able to eliminate Red and we were about to eliminate orange when Indy said “Wait a minute”!  There is something about her face (it was the cutest) and her great coloring and the fact that she was bouncing around like Tigger.  I am not kidding this dog actually bounces!  Indy pointed at Orange and announced, “That’s Cha Cha”.  Big-name to live up to!

Almost immediately after Indy picked her “forever” friend and we brought Cha Cha back to the house, she had to leave.  Why? you may be asking?  She had to get in costume and perform her final show of “Polar Bears, Black Boys and Prairie Fringed Orchids” live from her condo in Agoura Hills.  Crazy huh?  More about that later.

I know you may be wondering about my little Carlos and how he is adapting.  Carlos isn’t even a year old yet, his “semi” official birthday is October 13th because he was a rescue.

But, Let’s just say, Carlos’ life also changed forever this past Saturday.  Poor little guy.  It has only been a week and his world has been turned upside down.  They chase each other around the house like maniacs.  I don’t know who is winning the war, but the battles are very entertaining!

Well, that is all I’ve got this week.  Nothing else to talk about, but my pets.  Seriously?  Am I going to turn into one of those cat/dog moms?  I seriously hope not!

And of course, there is always lots more to talk about.  Because if you haven’t figured it out yet, I LOVE to talk/write about my goings-on.

Time for an eBay score, don’t you agree?  I bought this darling MCM (Mid Century Modern 1947 to 1969) for $5 at a garage sale.  Sold it for almost full asking price at $97!  Check it out here.

Before we picked up the puppy, the Palm Desert girls came out one last time to visit before we all get so crazy busy with the holidays.  They were only here for two days, but Mo bought a bunch of awesome furniture for her new house (from Lynn’s Consignments)!  We also had a great dinner at Casa Bella, had an outdoor spa treatment, and caught one of Indy’s three showings of her performance, “Polar Bears, Black Boys, and Prairie Fringed Orchids”.

Here is Indy’s Instagram post inviting everyone to watch the first performance. Since it takes place during a cocktail party at her (Molly Castle) and her husband’s (Peter Castle’s) home, I thought this was super clever!

The show was AMAZING!  All of the actors were phenomenal and the story was so real and poignant with everything going on in the world right now.  Bravo to Director Nic Few and his uber-talented cast!

Nic did such a great job with the show that you really didn’t feel like you were watching a zoom production.  He had great sets, costumes, and props that the actors handed back and forth to one another….even though they were all in their own homes/apartments, etc. during the live shows.  Each actor received duplicate props and a green screen to perform in front of and it was incredible.

The show was a high point for me in this “sh*t show” that we are calling 2020.  BTW, if you go back to my ezine #13 and #14 you can read about her auditioning for and getting this lead role by video!  Crazy!

Here is a photo of Carlos watching his “Queen” Indy on opening night!

AND here is a photo of the final performance on my big TV!  Soooooooo good!

The store is looking really great!  Thank you to Sandy, Val, and Peggy!  Way to go girls!

We have been getting in a ton of great gift items for Christmas!  Yes, I did say that out loud.  I have decided to skip Halloween and Thanksgiving and move right into Christmas.  It is my happiest time of the year (Indy was due on Christmas Day….can you believe that?)  But I had to have a C section after Houston’s risky birth, so the earliest they could plan it was December 15th and that is her BDAY!

Also, as many of you can agree, aren’t we ready for 2020 to be over, and let’s get to our happy places?  Soooooo, drum roll please, we put up two Christmas trees in the front window on Wednesday.  I am not going to decorate them until all of our amazing new ornaments arrive, but for now, let’s just celebrate the coming of our Lord and the beauty and wonder of the season!

Here are Val and Wayne in the front window putting up the 9-foot tree!  LOL 🙂

I have been buying like CRAZY for the holiday season.  I want you to KNOW that you can come into Lynn’s Fun Home (kinda like that shortened name…what do you think?) and find amazing, unique gifts at great prices.  SHOP LOCAL!

Check out these darling real stone bracelets at only $3.95 each.  What a great stocking stuffer!

On the night that the Palm Desert girls and I went out to dinner, I was able to tip the UBER driver extra to stop by the store so that I could finally get a great picture of the GREEN front window! Yipppeee skippy! So, because I love this rotating window so much I am going to show you all of the photos in the current succession. Bare, Red, Orange, Yellow and finally Green.

In the next few weeks, we will transition to Turquoise Blue (not Navy) so if you have anything Turquoise Blue or BEACHY, please bring it in to consign!

Which one is your favorite so far?

Plain
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green

OK!  Time for another eBay score…..I bought a set of this china at an estate sale in Palm Springs back in April of 2015.  That was before Houston had even graduated from High School.  Crazy right?

I paid $20 and have sold most of it over the years.  I was looking for something on a shelf this week and saw this plate and thought to myself….Why hasn’t that plate sold?  Two days later, I get an offer of $95 for it and it is going to Korea!  SCORE…..But I hope you understand that profitable selling on eBay can take some time…like 5 years!

Check out the auction here to learn more.

Soooooo many great things arriving in the store for the Fall Season.  We finally got in an order of Royal Design Stencils and some of their stencil creme paint.  They have been selling really well!  I can’t wait to see what y’all create with these!  Shop the Stencils on line here.  Free shipping within the US!

Here is what the stencils look like in the store.  Sandy did this awesome display!  Come in and check it out.

Really missing my son these days and I think that is why I use y’all so much!  He is super busy teaching high school in OKC so I rarely hear from him.  I have already purchased his Thanksgiving plane ticket home…Can’t wait to see him!

I just text him and asked him to send me a picture because I can’t remember what he looks like.  I haven’t heard back from him so I just searched my computer by his nickname “Goose” and randomly chose a shot.  This is from September of 2015 and he is on his way to his first meeting as Pepperdine’s Freshman class President!  Pretty cool!

Houston is the best arguer/debater in the world.  I have always predicted that someday he will be an attorney.  Time will tell.  One thing is for sure, I know he will try other things besides teaching.

Well, Lo and behold, my firstborn just got back to me and text me a recent photo.  He is still obsessed with biking and that is a good thing!  I text him back and asked where he was and he said “The Wichita Mountains” LOL.  Apparently, there are no real mountains in OKC (2,500 elevation is not much), but there is a lake.  Pretty huh?

He also let me know that his school, Mt. Saint Mary’s Catholic High School is moving from in-person to distance learning for the next week.  He says that the Football team had to be quarantined and that is 25% of the school.  If they stay with distanced learning maybe he can come home early and HELP me with this puppy!

So much great stuff has been coming into the store.  It makes my head spin!  I have been soooo busy with the puppy that I haven’t been able to get much of it posted on the website.  Please stop by!  You don’t want to miss out on anything amazing!

This Italian piece came in today.  OMG is all I can say!  $395.  There is a similar one listed on Etsy right now for $1599.

Here are a few of the items that I was able to take some photos of and get to Emma for the website.

Time for an eBay score!  This was in one of the 20 or so boxes of lamp parts that I inherited from my grandma.  Crazy, right?  I put it on eBay with a HELP in the title because I had no idea what it was, but it sure was cool!  Someone finally told me what it was and I was able to change the listing title.  He also offered me $25 for it.  No way!  It finally sold for the best offer of $82 and got shipped to China.  Gotta love eBay!

Check it out here to see if you know what this item really is….HINT…it’s not a lamp part.

When I was working on the green front window, I ordered in some butterfly garlands to gussy it up.  OMG, gussy is such a funny word, isn’t it?  Here is its meaning “make someone or something more attractive, especially in a showy or gimmicky way”  Well, that is exactly what I was going for!

The green butterflies were such a hit that I ordered in a bunch more in assorted colors.  Stop in and see them!  Or free shipping within the continental U.S..   Sort by newest first and Check them out here

The Orcas Island Pottery Tiles arrived.  They are Gorgeous!  $19.50 each. Sorry, my photo shows our front work table in a mess.  And y’all know it NEVER looks like this!  LOL

We have also gotten in some amazing new small throw rugs 2′ by 3′. Check them out. Some are so beautiful they could even be used as wall hangings.

Peggy had a birthday this past Sunday!  I had every intention of taking balloons, flowers, and gifts to her house that morning but, it did not happen.  Guess why?  Saturday night was the first night with a PUPPY in my house!

On Tuesday, I loaded up Cha-Cha’s playpen (the crate I bought her was too small and I had to return it) and we delivered those pink balloons, flowers, and gifts to Peggy at the store.  When you see her, please wish her a belated Happy Birthday!

OK, now for the final eBay score in the making.  Since we all have PUPPIES on the brain, I thought this would be the perfect item to share.  Bought it in Palm Desert for $3.  It is at auction with a starting bid price of $19.99.  It is unsigned but, I am fairly confident it is Waechtersbach from German.  Check it out!

Remember this painting from my last newsletter?  My ex-husband’s Aunt Pam emailed me with the information below.  Pretty cool huh?  Still can’t find any records for what her paintings may be worth.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks!

Biography
Carolyn (Platts) Hoeckmann

Biography from the Archives of askART
She was born Carolyn Platts on August 10, 1937, as the only child of a family dating back to the Mayflower and President John Adams. Growing up in Holyoke, Massachusetts, she developed an early love for art that remained with her throughout her life.

In Holyoke, she met a young German engineer, Walter Hoeckmann.  Following a courtship in both the U.S. and Europe, they married in Hamburg, Germany, in 1959. After the birth of their first daughter, they moved to Concord, CA., where Walter got a job with Standard Oil. After their sons Erik and Olaf were born, Walter was reassigned to Standard Oil in La Habra CA. They discovered La Habra Heights in the early 1960s and purchased land for the new home, where the family grew up and Carolyn lived out her life.

With the addition of a second daughter, the family was complete and Carolyn began serious artwork, first in oils, then acrylics, and eventually watercolors, which she favored.

Beginning in the 1970s Carolyn’s involvement as an artist expanded to include leadership on the Fine Arts Board and service as co-chairperson of the Hillcrest Fine Arts Festival with her husband.

Carolyn’s pen and ink drawing of Hillcrest Church, where she served as a deaconess, is still used as its logo. Carolyn and Walter were both active in the campaign for incorporation of the City of La Habra Heights.
OMG, Annie Sloan was on Restored with Brett Waterman this past Wednesday night. You must watch the repeat! Soooooo good! I believe it is season 4 episode 3, but I will have to double-check.

Here I am with Annie Sloan back in March at The Red Rooster Vintage in Redlands during the time she was filming the show.  We LOVE Annie!  She is the BEST!

OK, this section is probably going to need a new name.  Thoughts?  Or should Carlos still have his own corner?  And Cha-Cha gets her own space…The Challenges of Cha-Cha?

Time will tell, but for now, this is gonna have to be for both of them.  Here is a photo of Carlos helping me work right before Cha-Cha entered his life.  Poor guy!  He had no idea what was about to happen.

The morning after Cha Cha arrived Carlos jumped up on my bed and started “YELLING” at me. I am totally serious. He is a very quiet cat and usually only makes really cute “eeeee” sounds, but that morning he meowed and meowed at me SOOOOO loudly. He was PISSED off! LOL.

Here are the two in Cha Cha’s playpen (where she sleeps) and they often have CAGE wresting matches in there. So funny!

I think I will wrap this up and get out of here.  I do have a puppy to wear out so that I can sleep tonight.  LOL.  Seriously?  I really wish I were kidding.

Just a heads up, for the next few weeks, I won’t be in the store a whole lot.  I can leave them alone for about 2 hours, so that limits when I can get to the store.  Indiana is coming home as much as possible because Cha Cha is her dog, but we have been advised that Cha needs to imprint here with us and not with Indy and her 3 other roommates.  We have a trainer coming in on Thursday to help us get started on the right foot.  SOOOOOO much work!

Here is Cha Cha just chilling in our backyard on her first afternoon.

Here is Indiana on the floor saying goodbye to Cha Cha as she has to head back to her Condo in Agoura Hills for school etc.

I am going to wrap up this ezine with a photo that I am HOPING is a glimpse of things to come between Cha Cha and Carlos.  They almost look like they are cuddling (but it was in the middle of a heated fight) and this was a mini truce.

I grew up in Bellingham, Washington (BLI), raised my kids and lived in Palm Desert for 16 years (PSP), and now live in Ventura.

I just returned from a 10-day busman’s holiday (working vacation) in all 3 of my hometowns!  I am so confused now, I don’t know where I am!  LOL!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #27…

September 25th, 2020
Watch for it every Friday or every other Friday!
(OK I am a day late this week….Sorry it is Saturday this time)
Volume I  Issue 27

Here I am with my Palm Desert friends (Candy, Mo, and Kel) getting ready to leave Palm Springs for our 5th annual vacation to my mom’s beach house in Bellingham!  AND the FUN begins!

The flight to Bellingham was empty and very non-eventful.  I might even say it was enjoyable.  When we landed my mom was there to pick us up and she even brought flowers!

We spent that first-day having lunch in Bellingham and hanging out of my mom’s deck.  She usually has a beautiful view but due to the fires, we could barely see Lummi Island.  I will share a photo of a past trip to show you how beautiful it is.  This is from year one of our annual trips back in 2016.

OK!  Time for a Serious eBay score before I get to the rest of my crazy 10-day trip!  Do you remember from the last newsletter where I shared the Herend figurines that my high school bestie (Tina Burke Brown) shipped me to sell on eBay for her?  If you missed that ezine here is a link.

Well, those pieces have been a total score!  Check this one out that sold for the most…..you won’t even believe this?

The store is looking really good!  Thank you to Sandy, Val, and Peggy!  Way to go girls!

Here I am with my dream team!  Sandy, Peggy, me and Val…Love you gals!  I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Cindy (as part of my dream team) but she works in the back on eBay so wasn’t in this photo.  I am very grateful and blessed to have you all on my TEAM!

Letting me take off 10 days all in a row was a dream….although, if you know me, I worked every day either on eBay, ordering new gift items or answering texts/emails.

It is an illness…I LOVE my job and therefore working on vacation is like “not” really working! My grandmother always said…”if you follow your passion, the money will follow”. She was and still is RIGHT ON! Here is one of my favorite pictures of my grandmother, Cheryl Leaf, entrepreneur extraordinaire!

Just a reminder of our current store hours…..
Tuesday to Sunday 11 to 3. Saturdays from 11 until 5 pm.
We do stay late if there are customers so if you are in the area check us out to see if we are still open after 3 pm.

The yellow front window was such a hit! I can’t even believe how much has sold out of it. Here is one last look at it before we transition to green.

For our annual girl’s trip, we always fly out of PSP…it is the best little airport ever.  I left Ventura on Saturday, September 12th to head out to Palm Springs.  We flew out on the morning of 9/13 and I have caught you up with some of our goings-on, but before we get to the green window, let me continue.

Day 2 of our Girl’s trip was spent in the tiny little town of Lynden.  Here is a photo from one of my recent Instagram posts during my Bellingham visit this past August.  It is interesting because it gives a little bit of the history of Lynden and how it plays into my family history.

That is me, my mom, my brother Lee, Indiana, and Brandon.

Here is what I wrote about that Instagram post from August 3rd of 2020…..

Standing in front of my great grandparents’ home in Lynden, Wa. They built it in 1939 on Grover Street. My great-grandpa owned Sussex Motors, the Ford dealership, on Front Street for many years. #lynden #smalltown #bellingham #family #threegenerations

More to add, both my mom and dad taught High School in Lynden, Wa when they first graduated from WSU back in the late 1950’s.  My great uncle Houston (Cheryl Leaf’s brother) also lived in Lynden for a while and owned a gas station.  Guess where I got my son’s name from?  LOL….LOVE the family history behind his name (we are related ot Sam Houston) Lots of memories in Lynden for my mom and my family.

For some reason, my Palm Desert besties LOVE Lynden, so this past week we did make our trek there and this is my favorite photo from that visit.  Can you even believe these hanging basket trees?  They are OFF THE CHARTS!  Ventura, we need some of these in Midtown to set us apart.  Not a bad idea?

Let’s take a second to share some of the fun amazing new items that have come into the store recently!  Check out the new arrivals by clicking this link.

We have also taken in some amazing couches.  Check out this darling Ethan Allen Floral, this super chic outdoor sofa, the Natuzzi fine grain leather, and the super comfy sectional.  The sectional has sold, but the others are still available!

OMG!  Check out this Leather Restoration Hardware Sectional we got in today.  Like new and only $2,995.  This one will go fast!  Stop in and see it today!

Time for an eBay score! This is a piece that my grandmother gave me. I LOVE it! Well, I did love it and enjoyed it for many years. It is almost like a dressed snow baby in real fur…and it is bisque and antique. Hard to describe, but you can read the description in the eBay listing here.

I was asking $1,000 for it and took an offer that was around $500.

OK, shall we get back to the new green front window or the rest of the girl’s trip?  Not sure where I should go now…BUT, I am feeling the green front window for some reason.

OK, this window is a work in progress.  When I returned from vacation I hit the ground running.  I had asked Sandy to gut the yellow window on Tuesday I returned and was working from home on eBay.  She did a great job and Wednesday, Val and I threw (literally at 5 pm when we finally got around to decorating) the green stuff in the window.  I am not entirely happy with how it has turned out YET…so will only share this one side photo.

Once I feel that it is perfect, I will make a point to drive by at night in the dark and take a proper photo.  LOL!  But seriously that is the TRUTH.  It has to be perfect!  Today, Val and I added some twinkly white lights, some expandable greenery, amazing nightstands Sandy painted in Amsterdam Green, and some darling butterflies….. so I think I can get that night shot pretty soon!

Had to show you one of those nightstands that Sandy painted.  Sooooo beautiful and only $149.50 each.

Back to Bellingham… For each year’s trip, my mom and I want to share a new experience with our guests!  This year, we decided to head over to Orcas Island for the day.  Well, let me tell you this…it turned out to be one heck of a LONG day!  Just remember that Washington was super smokey from all of the fires.

We arrived in Anacortes for our 10:30 am ferry to Orcas.  The ferry was over 1 1/2 hours late leaving Anacortes because of the poor visibility.  We made the best of it and here we are on the Ferry!  You can barely see Shaw Island behind us…that is how bad the visibility was.

We had a blast on Orcas.  We had lunch at the Lower Tavern, headed to Rosario to check it out (ghost town), and wound up at the Orcas Island Pottery.

My mom has been talking about the Orcas Island Pottery for years!  She bought a coffee mug there about 20 years ago and it recently broke.  She was heartbroken and couldn’t wait to get back there.  The place was magical!  I can’t believe I have never been there.  My mom said it was her “Disneyland”.  Check her out!

My mom is redoing her kitchen and we both thought that some of the Orcas Island Pottery tiles would be amazing in her kitchen.  I told her that I would buy her 16 as a start to her collection.  Check them out here in her kitchen in Bellingham where she is playing with the design….aren’t they amazing?

My first thought when I saw them and all of the other pottery was this…How can I source this and bring it back to all of you here in Ventura at a reasonable price?  Remember, I am a former buyer for May Co., Cheryl Leaf Antiques, eBay, etc… Actually, I am not a former buyer…I have always been a BUYER…so was just following my passion.

I did my research and guess what?  Coming in the next few days…You too can own a piece of “Orcas Island Pottery” in the form of one of these tiles (use for a trivet, wall decor, or backsplash for only $19.95.  So excited to share these with you!

After the pottery, we headed over to my friend Hank Maarse’s home on Orcas. Hank is one of my best friends from USC.  Years ago, I was telling Hank about Orcas Island and he told his mom Clara.  Next thing you know, the Maarse family owns three houses on Orcas!!!

Hank and his family weren’t on Orcas, but we took a bottle of wine and had some cocktails on his deck.  Check out how smoky it is here as well.

I have many fond memories of time spent at this home with Hank, his mom, and his dad Jacob (of the famous Jacob Maarse florist in Pasadena).  Here is a fun picture of us in the kitchen from my ezine written in 2009.  If you want to check out that ezine, you can find it here.

Here we are in the Maarse’s Orcas Island Home.  Hank, Ana, their son Jacob, Jacob Maarse, me, and Houston.

OK, one more eBay score.  Oh, wait….let’s talk about the super fun picture that popped up in my time hop from 5 years ago today!  It is Indiana riding on the back of a convertible after she was voted Homecoming Princess at Xavier College Prep.  Too cute Indy!

And I would be remiss in not posting a photo that also popped up from five years ago of Goose (aka Houston).  He had just won the election for Freshman class President at Pepperdine.  I was (and still am) so proud of both of my kids!

OK, now for the final eBay score.  It is a Cherub antique lamp part that I bought for $5 at an estate sale.  Sold for the full price of over $200!  Check it out here.

Before I forget, a miracle happened two weeks ago.  My neighbor, Mo, finally graced us with her presence in the store.  Seriously, we have been open 2 1/2 years and she emailed me two weeks ago to say, “I love those baskets in your newsletter, I am coming into the store today”.  Well, let’s just say, I didn’t hold my breath.

And yes, she did actually show up, and even more miraculous, she bought stuff!  Thanks Mo!  LOL Hahahahaha

Thank you so very very much for helping and let’s hit #1!

But I digress, let’s get back to our last day in Bellingham…Wednesday the 16th.  I have missed my nephews so much and it was so great to see them last month but I was hoping we could see them this trip as well.  I was in luck!  Their dad, John, brought them up around noon on our last day.

We had soooooo much fun!  We ate pizza, played trivia and truth or dare with Alexa!  Here are the boys cracking up while we play Truth or Dare.  Just a heads up….for those of you who read on Facebook that I was sad that “club penguin” was no more or saw those “feet” on my Insta story….that was all for the Truth or Dare game 🙂

While the boys were at my mom’s we face timed Houston and he actually answered!  It is a Christmas miracle!  He was (of course) on a bike ride and this is what it looked like.  So fun!

Before the boys left, we got one family picture out on the smoky deck.  They are both getting so tall, it is crazy!

Time for a potential eBay score!  And this takes me right back to Palm Springs.  We flew back to PSP on Thursday, the 17th, and immediately hit some estate sales.  Fun fun!  I bought a bunch of Baccarat, Waterford, and Orrefors Christmas ornaments and some amazing oil paintings.  I will share more about the oil paintings once I have them listed on eBay.

One of the larger ones is in the green front window.  It is on canvas and I have not priced it yet.  Still doing my research and I may end up selling it on eBay.  My friend Coco has been helping me research it and we can find nothing.  Here is a photo of it and it is signed by Hoeckmann.  Anyone knows anything, please let us know.

Ooops!  Forgot about the potential eBay score.  Here is one of the Christmas Ornaments that I have listed on eBay.  I paid $6 each so I am pretty sure I will make at least 10x what I paid for the bunch!  Yipppppeeeee!

Here is a link to check it out.

Here is a recent Instagram post from Annie Sloan Home with a gorgeous lamp in Green. I LOVE this and it is really in line with our upcoming Green window.

I had to laugh when I pulled up Annie’s Instagram page and read what she had written about the “occasional bad joke”  LOL.  She is such a cool chick and has a great sense of humor!  Another thing I loved from her Bio is this line “Supporting fabulous indie shops globally”.

I LOVE that I am one of her fabulous “indie” shops!  Annie is such a staunch supporter of small, local businesses owners and I am so beyond blessed to be able to carry her wonderful paint and entire product line!  Thanks ANNIE!

Don’t forget that you can always order your paint supplies on our website……….

Sandy moved the yellow window inside the store to one of the vignettes and it looks FABULOUS! Love that we can continue our color themes inside the store! How fun and cheerful is this?

Carlos was NOT happy that I left him “home alone” for 10 long days.  Of course, I had someone checking on him morning and night.  Still way too long for an 11 month to be alone.  He was so happy to see me that he got a little comfortable on his back.  Do these pictures crack you up?  They do me!

I text those photos to the Palm Desert girls and look what I got back.  LOL HAHAHAHA!  Similar poses from two of their dogs.  That is Candy’s dog Peaches and Kel’s dog Zoey.  I guess the “Pet Yoga” pose challenge has begun!

Cindy’s son David is the one who watches Carlos when I am away.  He does an excellent job!  Here is a photo of Carlos outside in his “new” pink harness.  Isn’t he handsome?

In a week, Indy and I will be picking out our new puppy!  OMG, what is Carlos going to think?  Yikes!  My house is going to be crazy fun really soon!  Here are a few photos of the litter that we will be picking from.  Goldendoodles are just tooooooo cute!  The puppy will probably be coming to work at the store with me a few days a week, so please stop by and say hi!

I have been really missing my kids.  Who would have thought that was even possible?  I did stop by and take Indy dinner (Chin Chin’s) on the final leg of my Bermuda Triangle journey this past week (as I drove from Palm Desert back to Ventura…she is in Agoura Hills).

Houston isn’t so easy to see in person.  I did send him some of the new Baggu masks (since apparently he only had one to wear to teach school in person in OKC).  This is the “scary” photo he sent me with a “THANK YOU THE MASKS ARE AWESOME” text.  LOL!  Boys!

Funny how his map is of the east coast and mine at the start of the ezine is the west coast.  I wonder if they would match up and make the entire US?  In any event, these amazing masks are for sale on our website here.  Free shipping!

Indiana has been super busy preparing for her lead in the Fall play, “Polar Bears, Black Boys, and Prairie Fringed Orchids”.  She plays Maggie.  It will be live-streamed for free next weekend.

Get your Tickets Here. The performance is virtual and it is free! Let’s support these kids who have all worked so hard!

Here she is in one of her wardrobe changes and her “Maggie” wig. I think she looks beautiful! Go Indy!

She was also a guest on LA Talk Radio with Dr. Tongie last week.  When I get a link to the replay I will include it in an ezine.  She killed it!  I was (and am) so proud of her!  Here is the promo photo for the show.

Alrighty then, I was not going to write a lot this week since I am so behind in all of my other “work”.  Oh well! You must realize (by now) that I tend to write a lot.  I get started and just can’t stop!   A few last things before I wind this up.

My good friends, Linda and Brita from Red Rooster Vintage in Redlands (fellow Annie Sloan Stockists) were featured on the Brett Waterman show “Restored” this past Wednesday night.  Love his show!  And the girls were awesome on air!  They will be on more episodes this year along with Annie Sloan….can’t wait for that one!  Sometime in January, they tell me!

And last, but definitely not least!  We have a new consignor who is EXTREMELY talented and way too modest.  Her name is Suzanne and she is an incredible artist.  She was ahead designer for Disney and also Universal Studios.  She designed the Harry Potter ride at Universal.  Seriously?  She is AMAZING!!!!

She has taken up weaving and uses only recycled yarns from thrift stores etc.  It is all done by hand and one of her creations can take up to 60 hours to complete.  Here she is in the store with a work in progress.  Her pieces are works of art and I know (mark my words) they will be worth a LOT of MONEY someday!

Here is one of her pieces that we have for sale in the store right now.  You must see it in person as it is beyond amazing.  It is also available on our website with free shipping.  Click here to purchase now.  You won’t be sorry!  Actually, you will thank me someday!

Let me wrap this up with a HUGE thank you for your continued support of my small business!  You are keeping us going and my gratitude is immense!  AND thank you for voting for us!!!!

Thanks for reading my ezines!  I appreciate it….as always!
