Volume V  Issue 000010

Oh my!  Covid has struck one of my employees and we have been running with a skeleton crew.  If we are short handed, please be patient with us when you come in to shop.

Mo came out from Palm Desert this past Wednesday to help with my eBay business.  Of course, we got into some shenanigans.  Wednesday night happy hour at the Saloon.  Thursday night we went to Harbor Cove Cafe to have dinner….my new favorite place.  But Alas, they are only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday.  So we ate at the Boatyard Pub instead.

Then on Friday night we finally went out to dinner at the Harbor Cove Cafe with Marc.  Super fun!  Except for the fact that Marc ordered Spam.  YUCK!

Oh My Goodness!  I finally found a picture of Houston (aka the Goose) at a Pepperdine Law School Event on their Facebook page.  I have proof that he is attending Law School!  Looks like he is happy and having fun.  Love that this shot shows him wearing my dad’s watch.  Awwww!

Time for a fun eBay score.  I was getting ready to put the sale of this snuff box in the ezine and I realized that I had a pretty cute picture of SOMEONE trying to help me list this from back in November of 2000.  But, I will share more about that after the score.

It is a trinket or snuff box that I inherited from my Grandmother.  I listed it on eBay for $199 and took a best offer of $91.05.  Typically, I expect to get about 1/2 of my asking price and since this had been listed for almost 4 years (yikes)…I thought that $91 was a good price.

You can check out the listing here.

Here are those precious photos of that SOMEONE trying to help me list.  Those puppy months go by way tooooo fast!

For those of you in the Bellingham area, Teresa Meurs had to cancel my mom’s estate sale due to rain.  Please attend the rescheduled sale!  There are some great items and bargains to be had!

It has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st at Bellinger Storage on Midway in Bellingham, WA in units #4, #22 and #360.  Start time 10 am.

Back to my week with Mo in town.  Saturday we ended up going to garage sales and up to the Catholic Thrift store in Carp.  We got some good things for the store and for eBay.  Then we worked Saturday afternoon and just chilled Saturday evening.

Sunday, we had brunch at the Lookout and I dragged Mo to the Rudder Room.  I had only been there once and always forget about it.  Who doesn’t love a $5.25 cocktail on the beach?

Mo headed back to the desert on Monday and I headed off to Fit Buddha!  It was fun to have her in town, but also nice to be back to my normal routine.  Actually, there is no “real” normal in my life.  Hahaha.

My nephew, Zach, arrives a week from today for a quick weekend trip.  Can’t wait to see him!  Here is baby Zach with Houston and Indiana.  Aren’t they precious?

Time for another eBay score!  When your kids move out and grow up, sometimes they leave behind some pretty cool items that they don’t want anymore.  Houston left this jersey and I listed it on eBay.  We were huge Reggie Bush fans because of my USC days.  It sold for a best offer of $80.  Yipppeeeee!

Check it out here.

Don’t forget about our Design Service.

Since we have a Foe (if you missed the ezine two weeks ago you can read about the foe here) in our midst, I can’t leave anything in the parking lot.  We did have a make an offer pile, that I may no longer have, so these items are now free.  Please take them off of our hands!  Thanks 🙂

In regards to the Foe and their Residential parking spot, please do not park in the center spot as he may have you towed.  You are more than welcome to park in any of my four other spots.  Just do NOT park in the Tenant MIDDLE spot.  Thanks!

Speaking of puppy days….One of our favorite customers and consignors, Dawn Doyle, got a new puppy and her name is Maybelle.  She is darling!  Thank you Dawn for bringing her in the store yesterday.  As you may or may not know, dogs are more than welcome and we even have treats!

My grandmother’s mom’s name was Maybelle and our Maybelle passed away when my grandma was only 18 months.  It is a very special name to our family.  About 30 years ago I found a stack of letters in my grandma’s storage room (the snake pit LOL) that were written in the early 1900’s between Maybelle and her friends and family.

Back in 1991, I put them in chronological order and made them into a book to gift to my family.  This collection of letters is going to be the basis for the novel that I am writing.  I am super excited about it!  I will keep you posted, but I feel like that was a sign from my grandma and great grandmother that I am on the right track.  Our Maybelle had a wicked sense of humor and I can’t wait to share that in my writing!

Now for some new arrivals! Since my VA didn’t have a computer last week, I have left in last week’s new arrivals with links to purchase or learn more. But first, some newer new arrivals…LOL!

082224 2 Salad Forks Sold for $150…Lynn’s Latest #00009

Hi!  Happy Thursday!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #00009

Thursday, August 22nd, 2024
Volume V  Issue 00009

I was in the store working hard this past week.  No crazy stories to share!  We did get the store looking great thanks to Kevin.  Kevin has been a great help to us these past few months.  Here he is moving a chaise lounge down the alley and into the store.  It sold 10 minutes later.  That is what JIT is all about.  JIT is a term from my MBA days and it means Just in Time!

Speaking of getting a Master’s Degree, Houston started Law School at Pepperdine this past Monday.  I am sooooo proud of him!  I asked him for photos, but did not get any :(….So went to the Pepperdine Law School Instagram page and found some photos, but couldn’t see him in any of them.  Houston, are you really going to Law School?

Oh, I just remembered that Indiana told me that Houston got to campus one day (on his bike) and wondered why everyone was wearing suits….apparently it was class photo day and he had to borrow a sports coat from the dean :).  That’s my kid!

eBay has been picking up speed.  Yipppeeee!  If you can believe it we just sold these two salad forks for $150.  That is $75 each.  Crazy!  They were beautiful, but seriously?

You can check out the listing here.

For those of you in the Bellingham area, Teresa Meurs is having my mom’s estate sale this upcoming weekend.  Please attend!  There are some great items and bargains to be had!

Friday 8/23, Saturday 8/24 and Sunday 8/25 at Bellinger Storage on Midway in Bellingham, WA in units #4, #22 and #360.  Start time 10 am.

My mom celebrated her 88th birthday this past Sunday with friends in Bellingham.  We will have a birthday party for her and a going away party once her house sells.  Hopefully soon!  This is the photo that I shared on Instagram/Facebook to wish her a happy birthday.  It was taken a few years ago with my kids and she still looks great!

Even though my week was not real eventful, I did manage to hang out on Saturday night at Tony’s Pizzeria with Sandy, Marian and some new friends.  It was fun!

The hardest part about going out on Saturday night after a long work week is leaving this little face.  Awwwwww.

Then on Tuesday we hosted a Baby Shower Luncheon for Martha at the Harbor Cove Cafe.  I had never been there and it is awesome!  Will definitely return!

Martha is having a baby boy due on October 1st.  She will work as much as she can until then, so please stop in and wish her well.

The Lynn’s Consignment girls all showed up for her and it was a blast!  From left to right, Tina, Cindy, Sandy, Martha, me, Peggy, Sendia and Susan.  We missed you Val and Whale!

Martha received some really fun gifts…including a custom baby onesie created by Sandy.

Time for another eBay score!  I bought a boxed set of these cute napkin ring holders about six months ago.  I decided not to sell them as a set because many times you will get more money for the parts or pieces than you can sell the entire set for.  Some reasons…the buyer only wanted a specific one because they collect rabbits…or their set was missing one piece…etc.

These sets sell on eBay for between $100 and $200 and I sold this ONE for $110.  Score!  Check it out here.

Don’t forget about our Design Service.

Back to my Bellingham trip last week…..One of my classmates, Byron Priebe, is an artist and at our mini reunion, he was giving away some of his artwork.  So sweet.  I picked out one that spoke to me and framed it and have it displayed in my house.  Fun!

Interesting side story….Byron’s dad was an art teacher at our high school.  I loved all of my art classes and even won an award as a senior…my ceramic vase won the school wide 7 arts award (it was pretty prestigious) and I wanted to go to art school at USC.  My dad told me in no uncertain terms that if I didn’t go to business school at USC, he wouldn’t be paying.  I wonder what my life would have been like if I had followed that passion.

Speaking of that mini reunion, Kurt Lunde (who’s barn the party took place in) text me yesterday with this photo and the caption…

“New addition for next year.  Modified to run with Alexa”

Yes, we are already planning next year’s mini-reunion!  I told Kurt how our reunion had inspired my mom to do something more fun like we did for their next one and that she is looking for a classmate with a barn.  He text me back and offered to let my mom and her classmates use his barn.  How sweet is that?

He did then text me and say…..

“I honestly have no problem with a reunion for 80 somethings.  I imagine they don’t stay up until 3 am.  I think I went to bed at 4 am and Druann was the last to leave at 3am.”  Hahahaha!   Kurt is the best!

Since we have a Foe (if you missed last weeks ezine you can read about the foe here) in our midst, I can’t leave anything in the parking lot.  We did have a make an offer pile, that I may no longer have, so these items are now free.  Please take them off of our hands!  Thanks 🙂

We need to make room in the store for new and exciting items.  Because of this, I have drastically reduced the prices of the two bathroom vanities in the back garage and the brown leather sofa and love seat.

Here are the two vanity bases.  Think about putting a cutting board block on top of each one for your kitchen or to use as storage.  The white one is now $295 (originally $695) and the brown one is $145 (originally $395).

Both are brand new and do have their hardware.  Because they are brand new, for shipment, the handles/hardware are placed on the inside.

Here are the brown leather (I think) sofa/futons that are drastically marked down.  The brown sofa (has a small slit in the side) and was originally brand new.  Damage happened in the store and original price was $995 (retail was close to $2k)  It is currently $145.  Ottomanson Living Room Sofa Bed Brown

The love seat size futon was originally $695 (retail was close to $1.2k) and is now $95.  Check them out!  Ottomanson Living Room Love Seat Bed Brown

Now for some new arrivals!

Sorry that there is no link to purchase or learn more…My Virtual Assistant’s computer crashed and I had to do this myself….Ughhhhhh!

First off, I am marking down single chairs to $24.50.  Check out these two beauties.  Originally $95 each.

Bubble Glass Coffee Table…I LOVE this!  $395

Ashley Bolsena Queen Sofa Sleeper…..Brand NEW!  $695

Denmark Orange 3 Seater Sofa $695.

Large Lattice Ginger Jar $145.

So, I left Fit Buddha last night after working out and saw these signs across the street at “For Your Home”.  I really hope that they are NOT going out of business.  This makes me really sad.  What is happening to America and small businesses?

And in that light…..Thanks for all of your support these past six months!  We appreciate all of you…our consignors, customers, family and friends!

081524 Friends, Family and Foes…Lynn’s Latest #00008

Hi!  Happy Thursday!  The majority of you like the idea of shorter ezines each week…so here goes!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #00009

Thursday, August 15th, 2024
Volume V  Issue 00008

Is it really back to school time already?  Yikes!  It seems like the summer just began.

I did travel to Washington once a month since May.  Four trips up to help my mom get her house ready to sell was kind of exhausting.  No bites yet on her house, but we did drop the price $100k and it is now at $899k. Fingers crossed!

This trip was more play time for me…than the past three so that was nice.

Started off in Marina del Rey on Thursday afternoon to drop off Cha Cha at the kid’s condo and then I took them out to lunch at Tony P’s to celebrate Houston’s birthday.

The kids drove me to LAX and I was back on a plane to Bellingham.  We were delayed out of Los Angeles so I didn’t get to my  mom’s house until about 10 pm.  Long day.

The next day, Friday, my mom and I crunched numbers, ran cash flows and strategized on how we could get her house sold quickly.  Hopefully, the price drop will do it!

That afternoon my mom and I were supposed to go to Mt. Vernon to a Dralle Family Reunion.  I had reached out to my Aunt Amy on Tuesday and asked her if it was still happening and I did not hear back from her, so I made other plans.

It was one of my best friends from high school’s birthday, Kathy Rutan, and some girls were meeting in Birch Bay for Happy Hour and dancing.  So off I went.  At about 3:30 I got a message from my Aunt Amy that it was still happening, but it was too late.  Bummer!

In any event, we had a great time celebrating Kathy and dancing to a live band.

The next day, Saturday, my mom was having her best friend from grade school over to sit on her deck.  My mom and Verlaine met in 1st grade (1944 yikes!) and have been as thick as thieves ever since.  Verlaine lives in Utah, so it was quite the treat.

Verlaine showed up with her daughter Karen, son Jeff and daughter-in-law Kathy.  While we were chatting, Verlaine called her son, John, who was in my high school class and made me talk to him!  LOL.  I told him about the reunion later that day and he said he would try and make it.

We had to cut our meet and greet short as I needed to be in Ferndale at 4 pm to help set up for our Sehome High School Class of 1981 Mini Reunion.  We have decided to do these every year because they are sooooo much fun!

One of our classmates, Kurt Lunde, owns a HUGE barn with a full gourmet kitchen, living room and 10 classic cars.  No imports!  He graciously agreed to host the party and we decided on a potluck and BYOB.

Check out a few of his cars.

Once I posted the invite for the party on Facebook.  I got the greatest message from Dave Nugent.  I had been in charge of our 20 year reunion and I can’t believe Dave remembered that!

And Dave did show up with 4 big tables, 30 chairs, tablecloths, garbage cans, paper plates, cutlery, cups, and to go boxes.  He was a Godsend!

34 People showed up with amazing food…we had crab cakes, salmon, homemade salads, chicken, rolls, and tons of dessert.  Susie Hashisaki even made Nanaimo bars that were a hit!

Here is a shot of one of the tables at dinnertime.  From left to right, Leslie Arntzen, Carrie & Bill Caldwell, Les Lee, Dave Nugent and Walt Flint.

The Reunion was a blast!  Here is a shot of most of the 34 people who showed up!

Dave said it best on our group Facebook page after the event…

And here is a photo of that mini reunion committee in one of Kurt’s classic cars.

And guess who showed up?  John Van Horn…my mom’s best friend’s son.  Will miracles never cease?

Time for an eBay score!  You have probably heard me say that collector’s plates just don’t sell anymore.  It is not like the 1970’s when they were as hot as Beanie Babies!

In any event, some collector’s plates will bring big bucks.  You just have to be super picky and careful.  I love Arabia dinnerware and their collector’s plates do sell well.  We just sold this one for a best offer of $70.  You can check out  the listing here.

I just mentioned to Cindy that people must be shopping for Christmas already, as this appears to be something that would make a great gift.

My grandmother made a fortune on collector’s plates in the 1970’s.  I must share story #90  from “eBay Money Making Madness” the 2nd book in my 100 Best Series about some expensive plates.

Vicki Cratzenburg and Stacey Davis drove me out to my mom’s house after the reunion.  Thanks Girls!  We were some of the last ones standing and left Kurt’s around midnight.  Here is a shot of everyone at the end.

From left to right, Druann Sophusson, Kelly Magruder, Susie Hashisaki, Kurt Lunde, Diane Korunda, Leaslie Arntzen, Vicki Cratzenburg, Stacey Davis, Jodi Guthrie, Dave Nugent and Kathy Rutan.

Just so you know, I do these names for my mom….otherwise she will call me and ask me who everyone is….HAHAHA!

The next day, Sunday, I flew back to LAX.  Whirlwind trip.  Glad I won’t be doing that anytime soon..unless my mom’s house sells and then I will be back up there to help.

Arrived back in LA at 5:30 and took an uber to the kids condo, where I picked up Cha Cha and headed back to Ventura.  Another long travel day.  It is nice to be home!

And time for another eBay score. This one belongs to my mom.  It was a Rya rug that she and my dad bought in Sweden in 1960 and she never finished it.  Sold it as is on eBay for a best offer of $340.  You can check out the listing here.

Check out this message my mom put in with the rug….

PARKING LOT…and this is where the “Friends, Family and Foes” ezine subject comes into play.  As you know I had a wonderful time this past week with my friends and family.  But during the past few months, we have encountered a Foe at the store.  A new residential tenant has moved in and he is not a happy camper.  Doing everything he can to make our lives miserable at the store.  Just what we need….ugh!

So, this is your warning.  He has one parking space and it is the center spot.  He will have your car towed so please don’t park in his one spot.  It is clearly marked.  Why can’t people just be nice?  And please don’t confront him if you figure out who he is…we don’t want to poke the bear.

EXCITING NEWS……We will be having an in person eBay course on Thursday, August 22nd from 3 to 6 pm and Mo will be joining me to teach!  Mo has been my eBay assistant for 20 years and she knows more than me…sometimes!

Learn more and sign up here.

Here we are back in 2005 at eBay Live in San Jose.  From left to right, Russel, Griff (the famous eBay spokesperson) with me, Jesse and Mo at the B52 concert!  Fun times!

Since we have a Foe in our midst, I can’t leave anything in the parking lot.  We did have a make an offer pile, that I may no longer have, so these items are now free.  Please take them off of our hands!  Thanks 🙂
