102424 Last Week was the Craziest Busy Week of my Life!…Lynn’s Latest #000018

Hi!  Happy Thursday!  Many of you tell me that you are exhausted after reading my ezines, and I must admit after this past week, I am officially exhausted.  It doesn’t happen often.  Oh, but where to begin.  Probably with the Pete Yorn concert last Thursday night….

Rebecca and I arrived early to LA Live downtown to have dinner first.  The last Pete Yorn concert we went to in Ventura we had sushi, so it only seemed fitting to dine at Katsuya.  Here we are checking out a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada display before dinner.

Volume V  Issue 000018

But, let me back up.  I was only going to work Wednesday and part of Thursday last week, because the Palm Desert girls were coming in late Thursday night and I had that concert in LA.

However, things took a wild turn.  Indiana has been having some health issues that we are trying to figure out so I needed to be with her on Wednesday at the doctors at 3 pm.

There goes my Wednesday (the busiest day of the week) when I get in a big truck load, write consignor checks and write my ezine.  On top of that, six restocks of new merchandise orders for Christmas showed up.  OMG!  What a shit show! But family ALWAYS COMES FIRST!

I did end up making it to Fit Buddha Wednesday night and then wrote my ezine for last week late into the night.

I was feeling overwhelmed and was only working on Thursday until 2 pm.  Somehow, we got most of it done, but I knew that the eBay shipping would take a backseat.  More on that later.

Back to the concert. The Grammy Museum where the Pete Yorn Interview and Concert would be taking place was so cool!  The auditorium only holds 200 people and Rebecca joined the Museum as a member so we could get in early.  Front row seats!  Epic.

The interview was amazing and the concert even better. Love his new CD “The Hard Way”.

We gave him a standing ovation at the end and he played an extra song that was not on his play list.  Life on a Chain.

Since we were all standing up from the standing ovation, I thought it was a great time to get a selfie with Pete behind us and we were all dancing.  Such a fun night!

Pete handed Rebecca his guitar pick after the concert and she also grabbed the play list.  Hahaha.

I got back to my house about 11 pm and the Palm Desert girls were still downtown at the Saloon watching Karaoke.  They showed up about 30 mins later and we stayed up until God knows when chatting.

More about my crazy weekend later.

Time for an eBay score.  I woke up yesterday to a sale of $1,000 for 12 pieces of flatware.  Oh my!  Remember that Carrol Boyle bunch of flatware that I bought out in the desert for $350?  Well, I had already covered my cost & then some back in March and yesterday was all profit!

Yippeee!  You can check out one of the listings here.

Here is what the 12 pieces looked like as I was getting ready to ship them.  They are going to a gal named Kersten in Germany.

Unfortunately, with eBay’s new global shipping program, I can only ship $400 worth at a time.  UGHHHHH.

So, I will have to unpack the one order I wrapped yesterday and ship it in three separate packages.  eBay is sooooo dumb sometimes!

In fun news, I was looking for baby pictures of Indiana and came across three collages that I had made after returning from the USC Spain Semester back in 1984.

They cracked me up and I am still really good friends with a lot of these people.  I immediately text them to Joanne Carolan, Juliette Capretta, Hank Maarse and Chris Wade.  I mention these folks quite often in my newsletters.

My brother, Lee, is in a lot of the pictures because he did his senior year of High School in Barcelona while I was in Madrid… so we got to see each other quite often.

Here are recent pics of me with Hank, Chris, Juliette and Joanne.  See if you can find them in the OLD pictures!  My goodness…those Spain photos were 40 years ago :)!

Once I text those photos to my four friends…I immediately heard back.  Cracked me up!  Hank says he wants to frame them and I asked him if I should get high quality copies made and he said Yes!

Back to the Design Service that Susan and myself are offering.  We have three jobs lined up for October/November!  Exciting.  Here is our most recent one that turned out great.

Here are the after pictures.  It was a group effort with Susan taking the lead, her husband Brad, Indiana, Larissa and myself.

Here is a handwritten Thank You note that we just received in the mail today!

OMG, when I first read the note, I thought he had said “You and Susan did a TERRIBLE job of listening to our needs….” Thank God I read that wrong.  LOL.

But, Back to my hectic week.  I did NOT get all of my eBay shipping done on Thursday or Friday and it is the busiest time of the year.  I may be looking for some part time help through Christmas to do my shipping.  If you are interested, please let me know.

I wasn’t going to be working Friday, Saturday or Sunday with the girls in town.  I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, but decided to just focus on friends and fun!

Friday we went to the Outlook for lunch.  Always a great meal and we love the bartenders there!

After the Outlook, we all headed to the Rudder Room.  I had only been there one time, but then I took Mo with me a few months ago.  She loved it and insisted that we take all of the Palm Desert girls.

Here I am with Kel and Candy.

After watching the sunset from the Rudder Room we headed back to my house for a chill night…chatting and staying up late!

Saturday, we stopped by the store so the girls could shop and I attempted to get in a bit of shipping.  It didn’t go so well.  I knew I would have my work cut out for me on Monday!

After the store, we headed up to Santa Paula for some Mexican food and then I was hoping to get back to the store, but alas it didn’t happen.

The girls wanted to go back to the Rudder Room!  Lord Help Me!  We called a Lyft and it was seriously the scariest experience of our lives in a ride share.  The guy’s car was filthy and he had a sling on his arm and he was resting it on ice.  I asked him if he was OK and what did he do to his arm.

He wouldn’t answer so I asked again and he said “it is none of your business.”  I then said, “I need to make sure you are safe to drive” and he said he was.

We should have gotten out of the car at that point….especially when the girls in the back couldn’t get their seat belts on because they were sitting on a sleeping bag.

OMG…he was probably living in his car.  I think we were all in shock, because it was SO weird.  We made a pact, that next time if any of us feel uncomfortable we will get out!

I did report him to Lyft, but he knows where I live.  Creepy!  At least we had a beautiful sunset that evening.

Anyway, we left the rudder room and headed to the Harbor Cove Cafe for dinner and then called it an early night.

Sunday, we chilled and then went to lunch at the Victoria Pub.  The girls headed out at 2 pm and I got to work on eBay from home…listing etc.  Monday was going to be crazy hectic.

I had a conference call first thing in the morning and then rushed off to my eyelash appointment.  Got there at 11 am and was told my appointment was next week…ughhh!

So headed to the store to ship before Fit Buddha.  Did Fit Buddha and then went out to lunch (Martini Monday) with Marc at Lure.  Couldn’t resist!

Then back to the store to ship like a crazy mad woman, but I got it all done and delivered to the Post Office in Montalvo just in time!

The store is super full of marvelous items! Come in and check them out.  We don’t have room for many items right now, but here is what I am looking for…..

Table Lamps
Floor Lamps
Nightstands
End Tables
Queen Headboards (we really need these!)
Metalware…Metal Baskets
Baskets
Wooden Items
Area Rugs

Tuesday I worked from home and then had an appointment in Camarillo that went until 7:30 that evening.  It was a crazy, hectic, exhausting week.  I will be happy to take it a bit easier this week.

Time for one more eBay score.  I don’t remember where I bought this set of china, but sold 4 Luncheon plates and 4 Salad plates for over $400 last week!  Yay!  I did some research on this pattern and included some pretty neat information in the description.  Check out one of the listings here.

In honor of two of my friends with October birthdays, thought I would share this photo of Denise and Jane from our 6th year anniversary party.  Happy Birthday girls!

The store is looking AWESOME!  There are cute displays everywhere.  Check out the black & white room that Tina just redid.

And this Fall display that Sendia did is darling!

AND yes, we did put up our trees!  Sooooooo fun!  I LOVE CHRISTMAS!  And these 9 foot trees are for sale.  $295 each, but you can’t take them until after Christmas, unless we sell out of ornaments before then :).

101724 The Biker Boys Killed it in Ojai…Lynn’s Latest #000017

Hi!  Happy Thursday!  The Palm Desert girls arrive tonight for a fun weekend!  And as you read this,  I am probably on my way to LA for a Pete Yorn Concert.

I have been a fan for years and it started back in 2001, when I attended a private concert for him that was put on for Ikea in Seattle.  My best friend from High School, Melanie, who worked for Ikea, took me as her guest.

I have seen him over the years and even took Houston to a VIP experience with Pete at the Troubadour back in March of 2019.  We had dinner at Dan Tana’s before the concert (one of my favorite LA restaurants from back in the day) and then got in line for the VIP section.

You wouldn’t believe who got in line right behind us…  It was Rebecca, my neighbor on Fairfax in Ventura.  We cracked up!

Here is Pete with Houston and me.

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #000017

Volume V  Issue 000017

Funny story, I wore a shirt to that concert in 2019 that I had worn back in 2001 to the first Pete Yorn concert I attended.  I had him sign one of  the sleeves in black sharpie in 2001.

So, it was only fitting that he sign the other sleeve 18 years later at that concert.  Hahaha.

It only made sense that since Rebecca and I are both Pete Yorn fans, that when he announced a tour stop in Ventura at the Majestic, we both bought VIP tickets for that concert.

Here we are with Pete at that concert in October of 2019.  And, no I did not wear the “Pete Yorn” shirt again.  I have retired it!

Another fun fact about the concert that I am going to tonight with Rebecca is that it is being held at the Grammy Museum.  The Grammy Museum is housed in the former May Company Wilshire store where I was a Department Manager in their executive training program back in 1985.

Small and strange world!

Oh crap, when I pulled up this picture of the former May Co building at Wilshire and Fairfax to share, I realized that the concert is NOT in this building which houses the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

The concert is in the Grammy Museum at 800 W. Olympic Blvd.  Anyone know any great restaurants around there?  Hahaha.

Oh well…Just for fun I will share a photo of me working my retail magic as the Department Manager of Housewares back in 1985.  LOL.

Time for an eBay score.  This one didn’t sell for a lot of money, but boy did it make someone’s day.  I probably paid 50 cents to $1 for this coffee mug and I sold it for a best offer of $30.  You can check out the listing here.

I probably should have held out for full price once you read her email to me.

Here is the email I received from the buyer.  Awwwwww.

“Hi Lynn,

I just had to write to you and say that I received the Field of Dreams mug today and I cannot thank you enough. 20 years ago, my 80 year old Dad went to Dyersville, Iowa and visited where the movie was made. He bought himself this mug back then and has literally used it every single morning for his tea. This mug has made 3 house moves and has held MANY mugs of tea. One day the handle broke on his beloved mug. He told me “it’s okay, I can still use it”. I was like “Dad, you can’t even pick the mug up with  no handle”. He proved me wrong and kept using it.
Just recently, the mug got a crack down the side. Oh my goodness Lynn….my Dad had tears in his eyes and was so heart broken. I have never seen a man so attached to a mug. I knew then that I had to find him a new one. That proved to be much harder than I thought. Long story short….what I want to say is THANK YOU for being the one and only person that had this mug! THANK YOU for doing what you do. If you didn’t, I would have never found this mug. Please know that you are going to make my 80 year old Dad’s day so AMAZING and I am so thankful and grateful for you.
Sincerely,
Jackie Schultz”
In case you didn’t realize, coffee mugs can sell for A LOT of money.  I have been trying to find one of my old ezines where I show 6 coffee mugs that sell for over $900.  Alas, I can not find it, but will try and recreate the story here.

I went to an estate sale in Palm Desert quite a few years ago where the two men holding the sale had gone to my high school, Sehome, in Bellingham Washington… such a small world.  They let me show up early, but had me sing our alma mater before they opened the door.   “All hail to Sehome proud and true….”

LOL, If you have ever heard me sing, I wouldn’t recommend asking me to sing anytime soon.

I bought six Pisgah Forest coffee mugs that sold for over $900. I should have bought everything in the house.

Here are what those mugs looked like.  If you EVER see anything similar, you must buy them!

Here is a link to one of those current listing on eBay so you can learn more.  Mine were all the dark green color which I think is worth more than the blue.

In fun news, I saw on my son’s Instagram that he had a train ticket to Ventura.  I was sooooo excited because I thought I would be seeing him.  I text him and said, “Yay!  You are coming home”.

and he replied…”Not really”.

He and four buddies were coming out to cycle and camp in Ojai.  Three of them were friends from when he worked at REI (this past year) and one was a friend from Pepperdine Law School.

He wasn’t sure that he would have time to see me especially because he was with these other guys.  Ughhhhh!  Why is it so painful to be a parent?  Just kidding.

Then on Saturday, I got a phone call from Houston…and that is typically a miracle.  I get the text here and there, but rarely a phone call.  My therapist (and everyone should have one…a therapist that is :)) tells me this is normal, kids take their 20’s to find themselves and distance themselves from their parents and then in their 30’s they come back around.  Can’t wait for that!

He said, “My friend, Josh, isn’t feeling well and I am wondering if he could spend the night in the Casita.”

“Sure”.  So I picked up some dinner for Josh, put some beers in the Casita fridge and waited for his arrival.  He was very appreciative.  I did ask him how Houston is doing in Law School and he said…

“Houston is the kid in every class that knows every answer.”  Yay!  That’s my son!  Here is Josh in the Casita with his Subway dinner and Cha Cha.

Josh is probably not a big fan of Cha Chas, because she found his socks and cycling glove to chew up that evening.  That puppy!

LOL.

But, Back to Houston’s weekend riding the trails in Ojai and camping. Apparently, it was super intense and when Houston text me on Sunday morning he said we are lucky to be alive…not sure if I wanted to know what that meant.

I asked if I could take he and his buddies out to dinner.

He agreed! I was so happy to be able to see my kid. He is so busy with Law School and he had just finished Midterms so our time together is scarce.

He was so excited to show his REI buddies the store so we met there at 4:30 on Sunday. NICE! I brought the Cha along.

Houston had me tag REI official because the boys had all worked at store #274 in Marina del Rey.  REI Offical actually commented and said “The gang’s all here!”

Houston then asked me to write back to REI OFFICIAL (LOL) and say “Let REI Employees Pro Deal Surly on QBP Please”

So, I did.  No clue what it meant and Houston wrote back and here is our text exchange.  So funny!

After giving the boys a tour of the store we headed down to the Harbor Cove Cafe for dinner.  It was a super fun evening, although we did have to share a table with some randos….All good in the end and they took our photo!

From left to right, Caleb, me, Cha Cha, Houston (aka the Goose) Jack and Zach.

Thanks to everyone that reached out for my recent “help wanted” plea.  The position has been filled by one of my first consignors.  Her name is Becky and when I sent out a plea for a box spring for Indiana about five years ago, she was the only one that responded.  Good deeds go a long way.  Thanks Becky!

Back to Houston’s crazy trip to Ojai…here are a few fun photos and a link to watch his Utube channel video from the weekend.  Just so you know…these boys are CRAZY!  Adrenaline Junkies fo sho!

101024 Day Drinking & Design Jobs…Lynn’s Latest #000016

Hi!  Happy Thursday!  The day my last ezine came out was Cha Cha’s Gotcha day 4 years ago!  I think we picked a good one…What do you think?

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #000016

Volume V  Issue 000016

We have been jamming with our design business.  On Friday, Susan and I headed to Pasadena to do a design consult at a friend from USC’s house.

It is going to be a fun one because she is very traditional and loves gold, Ethan Allen and all things Old Pasadena.

Here is a shout out…We are LOOKING for traditional pieces…

Round dining table
6 Dining chairs
Small Sectional Sofa
2 Side Tables
2 Swivel barrel chairs
Table Lamps
Artwork..maps etc.
Floor lamps
Ceiling Fixture

Let me know if you have any of these pieces.  Thanks!

Here is a before picture of the room.

After our design stop, we headed into downtown Pasadena to visit another friend of mine from USC, Hank Maarse.

Hank’s family owns Jacob Maarse Florist and it is such a great store!  Susan was impressed and Hank took us both out to lunch.  I did have a Margarita at lunch since Susan was driving.  Day Drinking is Fun!

I had done Fit Buddha that morning at 9:15 and we rushed from Fit Buddha to get to Pasadena on time so that explains my Weird outfit!

Here is a fun picture of Hank, me and D.K. back in the day.  Two of my best guy friends from USC.  We were all on the Spain Semester together.

We used to plan elaborate events for each of our birthdays.  This particular year for my birthday they got a limo (that is why D.K. in a tux) and then they took me up in a Helicopter all over LA.  Epic days!

I just found these pictures from that night and had to add them to the ezine. My outfit was pretty cute, but WTF was I wearing for shoes/boots?  LOL!

OMG…seeing these pics reminded me that when I went to the restroom that night, Tina Louise (who played Ginger on Gilligan’s Island) was in the restroom and I said to her “You have been a great role model for me as a redhead because I got so teased as a kid” and her response was sooooooo rude… I don’t remember it exactly, but it was NOT nice.

Here is a story from my first “100 Best Book” about a Christmas Figurine that I sold for A LOT of money because of something I learned at Jacob Maarse Florist.

We returned from Pasadena in time for me to work the afternoon shift at the store.  Long day, but productive!

Saturday, I was supposed to go and see Indy’s Imrov show at Pepperdine, but she wasn’t feeling well and cancelled.

What was I going to do with an entire Saturday off?  I decided to clean my garage.  I have a single car garage at my house and it desperately needed some TLC.  I do have quite a bit of eBay stuff in there and I couldn’t get access to it.

Check out the dangerous before (Adolio and Sunny are the ones that rigged that wall of boxes for me and it didn’t hold up so well LOL) and the after photo!

Then Indiana came home on Sunday with Larissa.  They got here just in time for dinner down at my new favorite place, Harbor Cove Cafe.

We took the Cha down there with us and had a great dinner.  I love how their menu is very tiki bar in look and appearance.

We didn’t get a picture at dinner so took one when we got back home.  Love having the girls in town!

Time for an eBay score before I get to our CRAZY Monday!  Mo bought this for me out in the desert for $1.  Little trinket boxes can do really well.

I just sold one in the store today to Cherie (one of our favorite customers) and she bought it for her daughter.  Awwwww.

Here is a link to see the listing for this one.  It sold for $59.99….score!

Apparently, the “Old Lady” in the title is what really sold it.  Seriously?  Mo, did you really have to use that?  Hahahaha.

So on Monday, Susan and I were scheduled to drive to Yorba Linda for a design install that we have been working on.  All of a sudden, I had Indiana and Larissa in town unexpectedly and thought we should reschedule

Susan had a great idea…ask them if they want to go?  I thought no way.  But, I was pleasantly surprised when they replied with a resounding “YES!”.

Off we went to Yorba Linda on Monday morning.  We drove on some crazy freeways through some crazy towns…. City of Industry, Commerce, Anaheim, etc.

Here are the before pics of our most recent completed job.

Here are the after pictures.  It was a group effort with Susan taking the lead, her husband Brad, Indiana, Larissa and myself.

We got back from Yorba Linda at about 4:00 and went straight to Aloha for Happy Hour.  Long, but fun day!

Tuesday was Fit Buddha for Indy and myself and then a quick lunch at Nick the Greek.  And then an easy night at home with Indy completely cleaning the kitchen!  Love having her home.

Wednesday brought a lot of things!  Cha Cha was getting groomed and then at 1 pm I got a text from Chris Wade.  He said “Are you in the store?”.  Yes…I knew we were in for a fun day!

We always make fun about our “day drinking” LOL.  So he showed up and we had a glass of wine and he ended up spending almost $1,000.  Thank you friend!

Chris and I headed over to Prime for Happy Hour once the store closed.  In a really funny turn of events, one of my favorite customers, Jennifer, had been in the store earlier that day.

She and I always joke about how we see each other at Prime…but she said, “Oh no, we are all going to Rum Fish tonight.”

About 20 minutes after Chris and I arrived, in walks Jennifer….LOL.  Rum Fish wasn’t working out for them.  So Chris and I got a fun picture with Jennifer.

And then Jenn’s girlfriends arrived to celebrate their birthdays and Jennifer had purchased their birthday gifts and birthday cards at my store earlier that day.  So cool!  Here they are with their fun gifts!

HELP WANTED

Since Cindy has retired and I am doing my eBay business all on my own here in Ventura, things are going OK.  However, I  could really use someone here in town for some data input.

I pay minimum wage and you can do this job from home in your spare time.  It entails taking my “I Sell” sheets and moving them from an auction listing to a fixed price store listing.

Please reach out if you are interested.

Don’t forget about our Design Service.   As you may remember, we just finished up a design job in Yorba Linda on Monday/Tuesday and then we have three more on the books.  It has been a blast…Here is more info…

Do you have a space in your home that needs a refresh or a bit of rearranging? Some ideas….

Under the stairs
A focal wall (amazing how one wall redo can change a room)
The wall behind your bed…we even have headboards
Unused space

A Kitchen nook
A small office area

Susan Wheelan and I will come out for a 30 minute consult for a flat $50 fee within Ventura. You get to live with the design for 48 hours and may purchase the items you wish to keep and a 20% design fee will be added. You are under no obligation to purchase anything.

We just got a new design job here in Ventura.  Here is Penny in the before picture.  How cute is she?

She has a great design sense and her home looks good, but wait until you see what we do for her!

Susan Wheelan and myself.

After the initial design consult with Susan and me, we put together a vision board for your project.  Here are a few samples, so that you can see how we go about this.

If you look closely at the second picture you can see that this was the inspo for the Yorba Linda job!

The store is super full of marvelous items! Come in and check them out.  We don’t have room for many items right now, but here is what I am looking for…..
