Lynn’s eBay Ezine Volume IV, Issue Number 36

Hi!

I am in Las Vegas as I write this ezine. I decided to stay on after the baseball tournament and my Rocket Place class for a little R & R. We came so close to doing well in the baseball tournament but it wasn’t meant to be. More about that later.

Dear eBayers,

The outpouring from the Queen’s Court on our private forum for my ten-year anniversary was incredible. It was all started by Diane H. I wanted to share some of the nice comments with you all here.

Many of them brought tears to my eyes and a BIG THANK YOU to all of you! I appreciate you all so much.

Hi Lynn-

I just happened to notice today is your 10th anniversary as an eBay seller!

While many memories associated with today may be quite somber- here’s one we can all be happy about. You educate and inspire all of us by living the things you teach and showing us this can be accomplished by any of us.

So here’s a great big thank you from me!

-Diane H.

Congratulations on your anniversary!

Thanks for all you do for us, Lynn! I would never have gotten going without your information and assistance!

-Sally K.

***HAPPY ANNIVERSARY** Thanks for all you do!

-Charmaine

Lynn, I know I am a little late but I wanted to be sure and tell you that if it wasn’t for your books (the 3 100’s) I probably wouldn’t have started selling. I want to say Thank you very much for your inspiration.

-Terri

Happy Anniversary!! I am so glad that you do what you do. If not, I would NEVER have been able to have quit my teaching job and sell on Ebay full time! You are truly an inspiration. Thank you.

-Dory

Thanks for giving me that “boot” that I needed. You have helped me so much. Happy Anniversary!!!

-AuntieSuzi

Yes! I have to add my merci beaucoups! The Bootcamp I attended was definitely the highlight of my student-hood. The best educational/conference/class I’ve ever taken, learned the most, and the most fun!

Congrats on 10 years! You are the best!

-Lynette

There were many other comments. Thanks to all of you, you’re a great group!

The Las Vegas baseball tournament was a tough one. The boys lost the first game by only one point. The second game ended in a tie and we had to hold a California tie-breaker (yes, even though we were in Nevada!) A California tie-breaker is when you put a runner on 2nd for each team and see who can score the most runs after one inning. Well, we lost that California tie-breaker.

The third game also ended in a tie. Another California tie-breaker. Here we go again, we lost by one point. But it just went to show us how good our team had become.

The best part of the first game (besides watching Goosie/Houston pitch) was that Ellen (travels with Zoey) and Dawn & her husband Bill (divadawnlv) had come to watch. They are two of my most recent double Boot Camp graduates! They both attended back-to-back La Quinta events. It was great seeing them.

Here are Indy, my Dad, Bill (Dawn’s husband),

Dawn, me, and Ellen at the first game!

Speaking of our recent Live Boot Camp, the footage is going to be awesome & I want you to own it. Please read the Lynn Recommends section for more information on how to get those 4 boot camps in 1 box (for the last time ever!). Especially before the older Boot Camps are retired! The special offer ends soon.

And what was really neat was the fact that we finally convinced Ellen to open an eBay store at this year’s boot camp. Check out this email l got from Ellen after the baseball game.

Hi Lynn,

While I was with you, I sold another stamp out of my store!!! It was one I had listed twice before putting it in the store and was a great one of a belly dancer!!! I just put it in my store today!!

That was fun tonight…great seeing you and I hope Houston won the next game!!

Love,

Ellen

Having an eBay store is very important to all of our businesses. Remember the shawl my mom had listed last week at auction? Well, it didn’t sell and now it is in her eBay store.

Here is that auction that did not sell. It is a vintage paisley shawl.

Click here to learn more and see if it did sell out of her eBay store–

and how quickly! Maybe it hasn’t sold but she has some offers.

Check it out!

Because eBay stores are so important and because I really respect eBay guru Janelle Elms, we are announcing a very special eBay Store Makeover that she is offering. Please read more about it in the Special Announcements section.

Finally, we are continuing the section where you write in with your major scores! Please read The Queen’s Update section to learn more about submitting your stories.

Happy eBaying!

Lynn Dralle, ‘The Queen of Auctions,’ Creator of the best-selling eBay Boot Camp in a Box and Boot Camp in a Box Lite.

I just got this email from Gladys (one of my most recent Boot camp graduates)…

Hello Lynn,

What a great Boot Camp!! You were so helpful and caring in everyway. You really cared if we ‘got it’. It was wonderful to have fun and learn too. I would not have missed it for anything. Your crew is just the best!!!!

Such nice classmates too! The food was fantastic! Needless to say, I loved it! I have my calculator out trying to figure out how I can make the next one.

Many thanks, Gladys!

We all had a blast and not only learned an incredible amount from everyone there but as Gladys so eloquently put it, “had fun” at the same time!

That is what Live Boot Camp is all about. If you couldn’t join us, you can still experience it. Now you have the opportunity to own 4 Boot Camps in 1 Box for an incredibly low price (this includes all the NEW footage). We are retiring two of the previous years’ Boot Camps soon so you will not want to miss out! If you didn’t get that email, you can read more here.

Check out our 2008 Boot Camp Mascot, The Thomas the Tank Lunch Box I am holding that is already listed at auction. How much is it up to?

Read more and order your Boot Camps here.

Today is the last day to sign up for Janelle Elm’s exclusive eBay Store coaching event.

Janelle will be teaching about eBay Stores for the next 5 weeks. Her program includes a 4+ hour video training, 6 hours of newsletter training, and then 10 hours of live coaching classes with Janelle.

Classes are starting Friday (tomorrow), so this really is your last chance to sign up.

If you are thinking about taking your eBay store to the next level, you owe it to yourself to check it out. You can read more about the course here.

eBay Special Announcements’

This was posted on the eBay Forums as of September 15th. If you want to skip the official eBay announcement and read how it mainly affects us. Please read what follows Dinesh’s announcement.

A Message from Dinesh Lathi: New Pricing for Fixed Price Listings Takes Effect at Midnight, Plus Other Reminders***

September 15, 2008 | 03:20PM PST/PT

Dinesh Lathi

Hi everyone. I’m here with a reminder that the new pricing structure for Fixed Price listings, as announced by Lorrie on August 20th, goes into effect at midnight Pacific time tonight. That means that sellers will be able to start taking advantage of the new 30-day duration for Fixed Price listings for the new low Insertion Fee of 35 cents, and just 15 cents in Books, Movies & DVDs, Music, and Video Games.

Also starting at midnight, and good through the end of the year, our special holiday promotion goes into effect for Books, Movies & DVDs, Music, and Video Games: Fixed Price Insertion Fees are just 5 cents when you use Pre-filled Item Information (see details here).

If you haven’t already, make sure you’ve reviewed all of the information pages we’ve provided to learn more about the other changes she introduced: “recent sales” as a factor in Best Match search results for Fixed Price listings (which may take a few days to roll out across the entire site), new maximum shipping and handling charges in Books, Movies & DVDs, Music, and Video Games, our paperless payments policy, our seller standards, and more.

In addition, check out the Seller Checklist, which will help you stay on top of when various policies and features will take effect, and provide updates on the availability of tools for bulk-editing your listings. A few key upcoming dates:

  • Starting October 1st and through the end of the year, sellers will get a free Subtitle listing upgrade, and eligible PowerSellers will get double their Final Value Fee discounts for items sold with free shipping.
  • By October 5th, make sure your first domestic shipping option in your Books, Movies & DVDs, Music, and Video Games listings is within the new maximum charges.
  • On October 20th, our paperless payments policy will begin, and checks and money orders will no longer be allowed as payment methods.
  • Also by late October, you’ll need to specify your handling time and return policy in your listings.

As we did on August 20th, we’ll be answering your questions about these changes on our special discussion forum on September 16th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.

Sincerely,

Dinesh Lathi

VP, Seller Experience

Here is what I see as being the most important for most of us.

1. October 5th, make sure your first domestic shipping option in your Books, Movies & DVD’s, Music and Video Games listings is within the new maximum charges.

I am going through and changing most of my current 250 book listings to $4.00 media mail being the first option.

Here is an example of one that I have already edited.

Check out the listing here.

If you have large oversized coffee table books that you can not ship for this price, you can use the eBay shipping calculator and input size and weight and let eBay price it. This is acceptable and within the requirements.

Here is one of those types of listings that I have already edited.

Check out the listing here.

Here is a list of those shipping charge limits…

Maximum Shipping and Handling Costs

Limits on shipping and handling charges for select categories

Starting in October, limits on shipping and handling charges* will be in effect for select categories. These maximums apply to the first flat-rate shipping service within or into the U.S. Sellers are required to offer at least one shipping option within the maximum and may also offer other options above the maximums for expedited or international shipping. Sellers can still use the shipping calculator to charge actual costs at or below the maximums or if their listings are not standard — e.g., if you’re selling an unusual large/ or heavy item, or a bundle-you can also use the shipping calculator to charge actual costs. See FAQs for more details.

*As of August 20, 2008. The maximum shipping costs specified above are subject to change.

2. On October 20th the paperless payments policy will begin, and checks and money orders will no longer be allowed as payment methods. I believe that this will globally disappear and you shouldn’t have to do anything! That is great news.

3. Also by LATE October, you’ll need to specify your handling time and return policy in your listings. It is my understanding that a global tool is going to be made available for us by mid-September. Also, if you use a service like Turbo Lister that global tool may already be available.

4. As I revise some of my listings individually (like the books). I am also taking out any references in the description that may change in the future.

As an example, I have taken this line from my listings:

Buyer to pay $9.95 for USPS priority flat rate in the US. International bidders please email for a quote. California residents to pay 7.75% sales tax. Thanks for looking & bidding! We take all major credit cards also-visa, mc, amex and discover. Please email with any questions.

(I should probably even take out the California residents to pay sales tax because who knows what else may change.) Notice that I even took out the PowerSeller logo because that may change someday!!

Here is the new line…

International bidders please email for a quote. California residents to pay sales tax. Thanks for looking & bidding! Please email with any questions

I hope these tips help you as we all transition with the new eBay changes. If you are a Queen’s Court Member watch for an email about my first ever Webinar! It will be sometime before the end of September and will be your extra gift this month. You will be able to watch my computer screen as I do the single edits on my book listings and the bulk edits on my return policy etc. It should be very educational. I can’t wait!

Happy eBaying!

Lynn
