Happy Thursday!  As I look around both stores, it has become very clear that this is really happening!  Martha moved most of the clothes into the main store yesterday and will finish it up today.

We are still getting in some amazing new items.  And Sendia and Jo Dallas redid the black and white vignette yesterday in it’s new area.  It looks so fun!

In fun news, Sandy’s son Alex and his girlfriend Jen are in town from Idaho and we all did a Fit Buddha Party yesterday afternoon.  It was a blast!

After the workout party, we all went to Dargans and the boys did Irish Car Bombs.  LOL!  Fun times!

In Cha Cha news, I have been walking my puppy every night.  She loves to check out the neighborhood.  Peggy (who many of you know that works for me) said that for a dog it is like reading the newspaper and the way for them to catch up on what is going on in their hood.

Two nights ago, I was walking the Cha and we came around the corner.  There was a golden lab in the front yard and the owner and her toddler were also in the yard.  It was dark and her dog started barking at Cha Cha and I said “that is exactly what my dog does…they act crazy when they are not the ones on the walk”.

The next few seconds were nuts….the lab jumped a huge fence and came at Cha Cha.  I didn’t know what to do.  The dog’s owner was freaking out and trying to control her dog.  Luckily, the lab didn’t try and bite Cha Cha,, but was a bit aggressive.  I was trying to keep them apart.  It was traumatic.

The lab’s name was Shasta, and her owner, Alisha, was super kind and mortified.  She told me that her dog had been attacked a while back and was suffering from PTSD.  Oh that poor puppy.  Anyway, I was a little bit in shock and was thinking could this be a PTSD event that scars Cha Cha?  But we left on good terms.

And the next day when I got home from work, there were flowers, dog treats, chocolate and a very kind “I’m Sorry” card.  OMG!  I text Alisha and told her that if more dog owner’s were like her, this would be a wonderful world.

2.) If your small items or clothing have not been sold or picked up they will be liquidated at a discounted price.

3.) For those of you with items that sold over a year ago, your consignor credit has been converted to store credit as per the contract.

And, good things are coming.  Moving the business back online is going to allow me more time to focus on new ideas and businesses.  We plan to host some popups in the new warehouse with themed vignettes.  Can’t wait to share more of our exciting new ideas with you!

We have made the decision to be open until February 25th…a Sunday.  There will be a party to celebrate on March 1st.  More details to come.

When my grandmother passed away and we decided to close her store after 50 years, we had no idea how long the liquidation would take.  It ended up taking 2 full years and we closed on the 2nd anniversary of her passing, August 2nd, 2002.

We will close our doors on February 25th, but will still have the store until March 1st to move everything out and then celebrate the store with a party on Friday, March 1st starting at 1 pm.  It will be a potluck and BYOB.

For those of you who don’t remember, I opened the store on Thursday, March 1st, 2018 on what should have been my dad’s 84th birthday.  So…I will lock the doors for good on Friday, March 1st, 2024 on what should have been my dad’s 90th birthday.

My grandmother always told me that the antiques/collectibles business was cyclical.  An example, maybe oak and Asian antiques aren’t popular today, but they will be again.  I also believe that retail is cyclical, and right now is not the best time for brick & mortars.  Hopefully, it will swing back that way in the near future, but for now (just like we did 22 years ago), my business is moving back online.

Happy Thursday! Today would have been my grandmother’s 112th birthday…isn’t that crazy?

She was such an inspiration to me and really helped me become the entrepreneur that I am today. Thank you Cheryl Leaf!

In honor of her, let’s share a few fun stories. This one is from my 3rd 100 Best Book…”Kaching” and it is about a nutcracker.

OK, in the envelope with that note she wrote me (“a little something for your Lincoln collection”) she had enclosed a $5 bill because Abraham Lincoln is on that currency.

For those of you who don’t remember, when I was 8 years old she asked me who my favorite president was and I said “Lincoln”.  That is the day my “Lincoln” collection was born..not by my choice…LOL.

From that day forward, all I got for Christmas and Birthdays, were Abraham Lincoln items.  Just kidding….she gave me other things, but too many Lincoln items so that at one point I wanted to say “no more”, but did not want to hurt her feelings.

Oh, and by the way I should have said that Grant was my favorite president…at least then I would have gotten $50 bills in every letter.  Hahaha…probably not!

Circling back to the story of my grandmother’s kitchen, I just found the cutest photo of my grandma teaching me and my brother Lee to bake in that very kitchen that smelled like love.

Here is another fun story about some Heath Pottery and my Abuela.  I called her many things….G, Abuela, Weird (I love unique & weird people and she loved it when I called her that :)) and Grandma.

My grandma was waaaaaay ahead of her time, so smart, kind, funny and beautiful.  I miss her every day.

So today is also my good friend, Marc Kettle’s (Fit Buddha) birthday and he is probably going to kill me for this. However, this awesome throw back photo of us from our days back at USC showed up in my Time Hop from 3 years ago when my sorority sister Annie sent it to me. Happy Birthday Marc! Marc is on the left, then one of my sorority sisters Amy, me and then Greg Rutkin, who Marc thinks was one of his fraternity brothers. I am not so sure.

And again, in honor of my grandma’s birthday today, here are two of my favorite photos of us.  Me getting my first perm from her when we lived in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.   We loved to laugh together!  Miss you G!

I almost forgot, Sendia and I completely gutted one of the Christmas Windows today and did an entirely new window display.  I am exhausted….but come in and see it…so fun!
