10/30/22 Are You Ready For The Holidays? Lynn’s Latest #008

OK!  Happy Halloween! It is almost November…How did that even happen?  Our trees are up, Christmas ornaments out and believe it or not….they sell year round!

I am trying to get this ezine out before it is officially November, but we will see…I have been a little bit busy and some big changes coming.

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #008…
Monday, October 31st

Watch for it every Thursday or every other Thursday, Friday or Saturday!
Actually, lets be honest…watch for it whenever I get one finished hahahaha
Volume III Issue 008

I honestly don’t know where the time goes. Seriously? Ideally, I would write one of these every two weeks and then on the off week, I would send an email with new merchandise. I am going to make an “end of the year” resolution to do that for the next 8 weeks. Wish me luck!

Houston’s car broke down recently…well it is really my dad’s car that he left to Houston when he passed. And the car originally belonged to Bill Gates. It was a lease trade in at the Mercedes Dealership in Bellevue when my dad bought it. It was (literally) my dad’s pride and joy….and that is why he left it to the “Goose” aka Houston.

Anyway, funny story, the car has 4 batteries…and apparently one of them was for the land line that Bill kept in the car so no random person could intercept his phone calls. Sketchy? Or extremely interesting? I am not sure! Here is that “famous” car after I got the batteries all replaced ($1100) and had it detailed!

Houston never drives his car….strange huh?  Because like the song says “Nobody Walks in LA”…However, he does bike everywhere…including to and from work.  So, I had the car here with me in Ventura (since Jay from Jay’s Automotive fixed it…we LOVE our local mechanics!  Shout out to Herb from Star Motors as well)….Anyway, long story short I love driving this car for two reasons.  1.  It brings back great memories of my Dad and 2.  I can’t help but think if I am sitting in the same place that Bill sat I can channel some of that billionaire energy…LOL!

We do have confirmation that it was really Bill’s car because my brother found a photo of Bill driving it on the 405 in Seattle and had a shirt made for my dad with that image.  Crazy?  but so fun!

Here is my dad wearing that shirt with me, my brother Lee, Houston, and my mom when we toured the Annenburg estate, Sunnyland, in Rancho Mirage back in 2015.

Speaking of Houston’s bike riding, he showed me some amazing pictures that a photographer friend took of him recently…just had to share…so cool!

Time for an eBay score don’t you think?  This one is super fun because I bought this tiny oil painting when I was redoing my room for my housewarming party back in May.  I bought it at “Antique Adventures” and since I was going with an ocean theme it fit.  But later on looking at it, it didn’t really fit.  I wanted more beachy, ocean wave, sailboat etc. types of oil paintings.  I think I paid $50 or $75…can’t remember.

I had Mo (my trusty eBay assistant) list if for me on eBay and we recently sold it for $260!  Nice ROI (return on investment) don’t you think?  It went to North Carolina to a first time eBay buyer…pretty cool!  Here is a link if you want to check out that listing.

The beginning of October had me celebrating what should have been my sister Kiki’s 53rd birthday on October 2nd.  I found this picture of her drinking a Modelo beer in Acapulco back in the days when she was Houston’s nanny.  However, on that Mexico trip, she became known as the “drunk nanny” which was fine with me…she wasn’t driving him anywhere!

So on her birthday, I met some friends down at Aloha Steakhouse and had a Modelo beer in her honor.  The bartender was so sweet, I told him the story and he comped my drink.  I love Ventura and the people that live here….Y’all are awesome!

We used to travel to Mexico A LOT and I do mean A LOT.  My mom went a little “time share” crazy (back in the day) and so we did Puerta Vallarta, Cabo and Acapulco on the regular.  Here is a story from my “2nd 100 Best Things I’ve Sold” book, “Money Making Madness” with more about all of that.

Indiana had sooooo many shows in October, it was a little bit overwhelming!  She actually let me off the hook for a few of them 🙂  I still attended 5 out of the 6….83.33% is pretty good!  She is getting better and better.  It is so much fun to watch her progress. But more about those shows later…..

The weekend after Kiki’s birthday weekend, I was headed to Encino to attend the celebration of life for our friend Bart Miles.  Bart was Melanie’s (my best friend from high school) boyfriend, for 4 years.  I really didn’t want to go and I called Mel on the way and she said “You don’t have to go”……I said “I want to honor Bart and I am going.”  So that was that.

I recently found this old pic of Mel, Bart, me and Hank.  Hank is one of my best friends from USC and the four of us used to do stuff together all the time.  That is us at Expo in Vancouver, BC back in 1986.  Gotta dig those crazy fashions….LOL!  But Bart, he was always very cool and in fashion!

I totally lost it when I was reading the program and it mentioned his dog Whitney.  That was the black lab that Mel and Bart got together up in Bellingham.  Whitney lived with them in Brentwood and I LOVED that dog.  She got hit by a car and passed away.  Mel & Bart broke up soon after that.

Mel had asked me to tell Bart’s mom hello for her.  So after the service, I went up to Octavia and said “You probably don’t remember me, but I used to visit you at your Brentwood Condo with Melanie.”  She said “Of course, I do” and I gave her a big hug from Mel.  Such a sad day…. This photo of Bart with Whitney was on one of the Memorial boards and Melanie was the one that took that photo.

Thank you for letting me share…so sad to lose someone so young with so much more of their life ahead of them. Let’s get back to the store. Fun Fashions got a huge overhaul recently….and it was much needed!

Rachelle, Martha and I redid the entire store by size and color and I must say it looks amazing! And things are selling like crazy! We also added more items to the 50% off clearance garage…come in and check us out!

After much consideration and running the numbers, the clothing store portion will only be open Friday, Saturday and Sundays for the month of November (but also by appointment any of the other days the front store is open). With the current economic situation and the high cost of staffing in California…. this wasn’t an easy decision, but one that had to be made with my head instead of my heart. I LOVE the girls back there, but had to do what is best for my business.

This won’t take effect until the week of November 7th….so keep in mind that for the month of November these are the days and times it will be open.

Tuesday, November 1st through Saturday, November 5th 11 am to 5pm
Sunday, November 6th 11 am to 3 pm
Friday, November 11th to Saturday, November 12th 11 am to 5 pm
Sunday, November 13th 11 am to 3 pm
Friday, November 11th to Saturday, November 12th 11 am to 5 pm
Sunday, November 13th 11 am to 3 pm
Friday, November 17th to Saturday, November 18th 11 am to 5 pm
Sunday, November 20th 11 am to 3 pm
Friday, November 25th to Saturday, November 26th 11 am to 5 pm
Sunday, November 27th 11 am to 3 pm

Thank you for your understanding and we will revaluate for December hours!
After Bart’s memorial service weekend, there was some good news! Mo was coming out from the desert on Monday the 10th to work for me! As many of you know, she is my trusty eBay assistant and has worked for me for almost 20 years. Holy Moly!

This trip was ahead of the Palm Desert girls weekend that would take place the 14th, 15th & 16th when Candy and Kellene would drive out to join us.

Mo and I had a lot of fun and managed to get lots done both in the store and on eBay. Some fun nights out and we also celebrated Carlos’ 3rd birthday. How did that even happen? My little scrappy street rescue kitten is now 3 years old! He was living on the streets in Oxnard when he was rescued. If you can survive that you can survive anything…LOL!

Our next calligraphy course is Sunday, November 13th from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Joy’s last class was a huge success and my mom took it and LOVED it!   and these are being taught by one of my very first consignors…Joy Goldowitz!

She is a teaching dynamo!  Her course “Calligraphy:  The Art of Beautiful Lettering” will be offered on Sunday, November 13th from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

The course is just $59 and includes a gift box full of calligraphy supplies!  What?  This is unreal 🙂

Joy is a retired (after 37 years) elementary school teacher.  She is a lover of the relaxing art of hand lettering, beautiful inks and stationary of all ilks.  She is a passionate teacher who happily loves sharing her techniques with others.  She will guide you on a journey creating lovely letters to embellish words, names, addresses, cards, gift tags etc.

Talking about Mo visiting and eBay, I think it is time for another eBay score.  This is an EAPG (Early American Pressed Glass) piece that I picked up at an estate sale for about $2.  It sold for $173.99 this month and was shipped to Seattle, Washington!  You gotta love eBay!  Check out the listing here.

The store has been getting some amazing things in recently…seriously!  We took in some wonderful Tiffany style lamps.  I think this floor lamp with dragon flies is my favorite and at only $795 it won’t last long.  You can check it out here on our website.

While Mo was here visiting, I had a blind date and he & I were supposed to meet in Woodland Hills.  Being the great friend that I am, I dragged her along with me for protection.  LOL.  I dropped her off at a bar while I went to meet Steven at a pretty nice restaurant, Il Fornaio.  It was actually a pretty fun night and Mo got to meet my date after our dinner.

The best news though was that the Palm Desert girls were headed out to Ventura to go see Tim McGraw with us at Surfer’s Point on Friday, October 14th.  VIP all the way baby!  I had so much fun at the concert and was talking to this guy Patrick who had gone to Pepperdine (older than me), but when I told him about my store and that he should visit, he said “I am from Nashville” so I asked why he was there and he answered “I’m with Tim”.  LOL, I hung out with him all night.

Before I get into more about my recent girls weekend,  I just wanted to remind you about our clothing store!   If you missed the email saying what we are looking for in clothingplease read it here before you come in.  Thanks!

The day after the Tim concert was going to be super fun. Indiana had an alumni PIT (Pepperdine Improv Troupe) Show at Pepperdine on Saturday at 4 pm. The girls and I drove my dad’s car down to meet the kids for lunch at Ollo before the show. Houston hadn’t had his/my dad’s car for about 2 weeks and this was the best way to get it back to him. The girls and I would uber home after the show.

Indy and Houston had picked Ollo for lunch as it was a place that we all loved. Right down the hill from Pepp and we frequented it a lot over the years. My dad, my mom, my brother and even the kids dad, William, have all eaten at Ollo. Indiana invited a ton of her PIT friends to join us and we had a table for 14. I just love hanging out with these kids. Makes me so happy! Check us out!

The PIT show was so much fun and the girls weekend ended on Sunday after a shopping spree at my store.  Then it was time for me to recoup and get ready for all of Indy’s shows coming up at the end of the month…seriously…she had 5 shows at the end of October and I would make it to 4 of those. Yikes!

I missed her show on Tuesday, October 18th and she understood.  I really needed to regroup and recharge.  I am getting older you know.  LOL….NEVER!

The show that she really wanted me to attend was on Friday night in Weho (West Hollywood) at the 4th Wall Comedy Cafe and it didn’t start until 10 pm.  OK?  Can I do this?  Maybe an Uber could solve that problem.  Luckily, the day before Indy text me and said it had been moved up to 8pm.  Whew!  I can do that!

We always try and go to dinner together before every show…me, Houston, Emma, Indy and whoever I take with me.  It makes for a great evening and a chance for me to reconnect with my kids.  The 4th Wall Comedy Cafe was near nothing but strange Thai restaurants.  I did my research and told the kids we would meet at “The one & only Jitlada” at least that’s what their propaganda told me.  LOL.

Once I told the kids, check out this text I got back from Emma.  I guess I did OK?  But, yes the neighborhood was super sketchy….Here is the text and also my Instagram post while I waited for the kids.

The show was AMAZING!  Indiana had the audience in the palm of her hand…seriously, it was one of my favorite shows she has ever done.  So proud of her!

Right after that show was a sudden trip to San Diego.  OMG…How did that even happen?  Well, let me tell you.  I was scrolling through Instagram one day and saw this post from Kacha…the famous furniture painter who we had just hung out with in New Orleans.

If you don’t remember that from the last ezine, the funniest part was that her husband’s name is Carlos and when Sandy and I had lunch with them, I told them that my cat’s name was Carlos and that my dog’s name was Cha Cha and that I have an Instagram account for them @CarlosnChaCha….LOL.  Carlos was like, “that is just like us ‘Carlos n Kacha'”….anyway we totally bonded over that.

We had already decided to start carrying “Redesign with Prima” (Thank you Sandy) in the store so this seemed like a no brainer.  Sandy and I needed to be at that event.  I emailed the Prima Sales Rep and asked her if they would be available over the weekend to help me place an order.

She immediately emailed back and said “Why don’t you come to the retailer/stockist event on Monday the 24th”.  Holy shit!  That was only 4 days away.  Somehow we made it happen!  Got approved as a new Prima retailer, found someone to take Cha Cha and got a hotel a block from the store.  LOL…life works in funny ways, doesn’t it?  When something is meant to be…it is meant to be!

So, on the way to Temecula, Sandy and I stopped in Weho/Silverlake to have dinner with the kids at Messhall (seriously cool restaurant) and see Indy’s Plant Mob show.  Here are a few pics.

After the show, Sandy drove us down to Temecula so that we could spend the night close to where the stockist/retailer event would be happening the next day.  OMG…what a long day of driving for Sandy.  Yikes!

The next day turned out to be soooo amazing.  So fun to reconnect with Carlos and Kacha and learn more about Redesign with Prima.  Here are a few fun pics from the event.  We are sooooooo EXCITED to be bringing you this whole new line of transfers, moulds, stamps, decoupage etc. in the next few weeks.

This company blows IOD (Iron Orchid Designs) out of the water.  Their range is huge and they are so consumer/retailer friendly.  A seriously cool family owned business (we love Pom the owner and all the employees) that really strives to give great value.  Lots of great things happening at Lynn’s!

Check out the piece that Kacha was working on during the retailer day….She totally changed her mind and did it all gold (with no transfers) for the finished product.  So interesting to me how a piece can change during the artistic process.

As the Redesign event ended, I mentioned to Pom (the owner) and I can’t believe I haven’t even told Y’all this yet…. that the LA Times was coming to take pictures of my store the next day for an article……How cool is that?

Pom, the cute lady in the picture above also owns a winery in Temecula called Prima and she gave me a bottle of wine to give to the LA times reporter/photographer.  LOL!  Life is so strange and yet so fun….am I right?  Or am I right?

But more on that later.  After the event ended, everyone was going to head over to the Cheesecake factory for dinner.  Sandy and I were exhausted but did need dinner etc. before our long drive home.

Y’all may or may not know but the Cheesecake Factory has some bad memories for Indiana.  She worked there for about 4 months and was sexually harassed.  So it isn’t the best of memories for her.  I posted something on my Insta story like….Oh NO…Not the Cheesecake Factory and the kids took it in stride but posted some seriously funny blow back.  LOL.  Check it out.

OK, let’s get back to the LA Times story…About 2 weeks ago, Peggy answers the phone and says “There is someone that wants to talk to you about a photo shoot”.  I roll my eyes…because that is what I usually do…I don’t trust anyone….LOL.  But then she says “LA Times” and in my mind I think “LA TIMES”!!!!!  So cooooooool!

Apparently, there is an amazing staff writer who is doing a destination piece on Ventura and it’s amazing Thrift and Consignment Stores.  At this point I am all in!

The photographer will be in Ventura the Tuesday after my crazy last minute trip to San Diego…Oh, will the fun never end!

I try to confirm the time and no one gets back to me.  I am never in the store on Tuesdays, but decided I should be there just in case.  Good move on my part!  I am sitting in the front of the store when a gal with HUGE cameras all over her body walks in.  LOL…”Are you from the LA Times”…YES!  I immediately give her the bottle of wine that Pom wanted me to give her and we are fast friends.

Dania was amazing and so humble.  For God’s sake she is an LA Times Staff Photographer…what does that even mean and how do you get to be one?  We had a great time and she told me that the article was already written…HUH?  No one had interviewed me or my staff…whatever! I don’t care we are going to be in the LA TIMES!!!  Here she is with that bottle of wine!

Dania took pictures of Peggy painting a table with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and a portrait of Rachelle in the clothing store…..sooooo good!  Here are the before and afters of Peggy’s table.  Now for sale in the store….$245.

The next day I am in my office when I hear “I am back for more wine”….LOL…It is Dania and she is standing outside my office door.  What?  She explains that the destination story about Ventura is going to run on Sunday, November 6th on the front page of the Weekend insert.  OMG!

And that it is between me and one other store for the cover shot.  SERIOUSLY?  Her editor sent her back to get more high quality shots with extra lighting.  Fingers crossed that it is our picture on that COVER!!!!!  I could scream…..this is so beyond exciting!

Some of the new products that we will be carrying from Redesign with Prima include Decoupage papers that Sandy says are AMAZING!  Sandy recently completed this project piece with one of their $15.99 papers.  Can’t wait to share all of this with y’all and show you how easy it is.  Two shots of this darling dresser…one when it was green and one after Sandy decided that blue over green would be better.  Sandy is so talented…just like Peggy!  For sale now in the store at $295!

So at the last minute Indy got invited back to do the “Hump Day Cabaret” Show on Wednesday, October 26th at the El Cid on Sunset.  Such a great venue!   My friend Steve had been wanting to join me for a show so luckily he was available.  Once he committed, Jeff & Joanne decided to join us.  CRAZY!  Steve & I ubered to their house and Joanne drove from there.  Champagne and Vodka cocktails for the ride in.  Indy did 4 minutes of stand up  and 4 minutes as Ed Sheeran.  So fun!

And then I found this crazy meme of a baby that the caption read “This baby looks more like Ed Sheeran than Ed Sheeran”.  LOL!

After the show we got a great group pic and then my crazy friends decided they wanted to bar hop all over West Hollywood.  I was like, OMG….I have to go to another one of her shows tomorrow night….I can’t.

They won!  Here we are watching the bartender, John, pour our drinks at the “Employees Only” Club.  God save me!  I am exhausted!

093022 Back From NOLA & PS….Where Next? Lynn’s Latest #007

Well, we are finally into Fall now, aren’t we?  That heat wave at the beginning of September almost killed me & our business.  LOL!  Wasn’t that awful?  Before we know it, it will be Christmas…I am putting up the trees on October 12th.  Can’t wait!

I am writing this from the Marilyn Suite at the Charlie Hotel in Hollywood (Charlie Chaplin once owned it)!  How cool is that?  Marilyn actually lived in this bungalow in the 1940’s.

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #007…
Friday, September 30th

Watch for it every Thursday or every other Thursday, Friday or Saturday!
Actually, lets be honest…watch for it whenever I get one finished hahahaha
Volume III  Issue 007

As my last ezine was coming out, I was welcoming my mom and my nephews for a 10 day southern cal extravaganza!  They flew in on August 17th and my mom’s real birthday was August 18th.  And we had HUGE plans!  We had been invited to the Berlin/Boy George concert in Irvine as the guests of Teri Nunn (lead singer of Berlin).  We caravaned to Camarillo and Joanne & Jeff drove from there.  It was a BLAST!!!!  Here is my mom as Terri walked past her.  It was my mom’s actual 86th birthday and she had tears in her eyes during this time!

We had backstage passes for the concert, but made the mistake of waiting until after Boy George played and then the Berlin ones weren’t good anymore!  Drats!  But we still had such an amazing time.  I danced with both Kai and Zach during the entire concert.  So crazy, but my sister used to dance and sing around the house all the time!  She was ALWAYS singing and dancing…..The boys take after their mom and are both amazing dancers!  I was waiting to get a great picture of all of us backstage with Teri and since that didn’t happen, this is the best photo  I have from that night.

My mom and I were sitting close to the stage with her wheelchair and I got to take a photo looking back from left to right…. Zach, Kai, Jeff & Joanne with their daughter Alana.  Such a fun night!

After that super fun night, we were off to the races!  It was nonstop fun having the boys in town.  I don’t think we ever just “chilled” whatever that means anyway?  The next night was one of Indiana’s shows in West Hollywood with a dinner at one of my favorite LA restaurants, Spartina, first.  Check out this cousin pic from that dinner.  I LOVE that my kids and Kiki’s kids are so close.  It is interesting they are all exactly 10 years apart.

Let me explain, Houston was born in 1996 so he is currently 26 and Zach was born in 2006 so he is currently 16.  Indiana was born in 1998 and will be 24 this year and Kai was born in 2008 and is currently 14.  It makes it easy for my mom, brother and me to remember!

Enough about my super fun life…which it really is by the way.  Took me a while to get here.  There were some tough years when the kids were little and I was doing it all on my own and paying for everything on my own.  Nice to be able to finally breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy how hard I have worked.  Thanks for listening to that!

Time for an eBay score, don’t you think?  I bought this random book at an estate sale.  I paid about $2 for it.  I always try and buy “weird” things to list on eBay.  Check it out here.

I am not sure why it sold for so much.  I took a best offer of $160 for it last week.  I do know that it is a really specific item that someone must have been searching for.  A best offer of $160 on an item listed for $173.99 is a no brainer.  Right?

After Indiana’s show on Saturday night, the boys were going to go home with her and Houston & Emma and Grandpa to spend some time with them in Marina del Rey.  The next morning, Houston was dragging them out on a bike ride.  Gotta give the boys credit as they were up for the challenge.  And it was a challenge…I think Houston made them ride about 50 miles.  LOL!

So the rest of the time my nephews were here was a whirlwind.  We did A LOT.  I will share some of the highlight photos.  Two  days at the beach with Cha Cha, both boys working at the store helping with inventory/and ordering, working out at Fit Buddha with Marc twice and a farewell dinner at Casa Bella!

Then we met Indiana at the Academy of Art Museum in downtown LA. It is housed in the former May Company building where I was a department manager of housewares for a year. SUCH memories! And a Super fun day!

I used a photo from my time as a department manager in story #79 from “Kaching the 3rd 100 Best Things I’ve Sold on eBay” book.  Perfect time to share don’t you think?

Remember in the last ezine I was looking for a picture of my brother in the Snake Pit at my grandmother’s store.  Well, I finally found it and it was in one of my 100 Best Books….”The 1st 100 Best Things I’ve Sold on eBay” and it was story number #28.  So time to share it here now!

This picture cracks me up because the snake pit was called the snake pit because there was a 3 foot high cement crawl space under the floor for my grandmother to store more of her “goodies”.  We had a brilliant idea to have my brother stand in the “pit” portion and put his shoes where his knees were to make him look super short.  I know right?  My grandma would have called this “indoor sports for lightheaded people”.   LOL!

I just got some terrible news. Ughhhhhhh. My friend, Audrey Angel Mortensen, just called to tell me that her ex-husband John Mortensen (Lead Singer of the Mono Men) passed away yesterday. Audrey was my first employee at Leaf’s Antiques and she and John lived in the upstairs apartment over my grandmother’s home & store. They are my very dear friends.

John helped me back in 1995 to get our first Leaf Antique web page up and running (back then it was Pacificrim/leafantiques etc…no www) and he also filmed many of my training videos. I am so sad that he is gone way too young, but mostly for his two daughters. John and I share the same birthday and I had mistakenly called him from my mom’s birthday party this past August. It cheers me up a bit to think that we just had that fun conversation. RIP.

And I just found story #19 from “The 100 Best Things I’ve Sold on eBay” that shows he and I during filming of our “Trash to Cash” series.  Heavy heart here today…..

OK, thank you for letting me share all of that…..After the whirlwind that was my 10 days with my mom & nephews, I chilled for the first part of September and worked on my taxes, organized my house and read a lot of books.  It was a great reset from my CRAZY summer!

We also did a new front window at the store.  I LOVE the neutral fall colors and so did Cha Cha!  We have already sold the console out of the window.  Things just don’t last very long!

We just got tagged in an Instagram post for one of our customer’s amazing garden.  Check it out!  I think she bought the buddha from us.

Speaking of Instagram, Rachelle is doing an amazing job for both @lynnsconsignments and @lynnsfunfashions.  Please follow along.  I had to laugh out loud at this recent post.  Sooooooo true!

Check out this sectional that just came in….Charcoal Grey by Thomasville.  Priced at only $1195!  You can view it here on our website.

Indiana had a ton of shows in September.  I wasn’t able to make very many of them due to my travel schedule for the last half of the month.  I did manage to see one show “The Comedy Embargo” which was fabulous!  She is really doing the work and it shows!  She is also taking the intermediate Groundlings Course this month!

The highlight of September for me was heading to NOLA (New Orleans) with Sandy for Annie Sloan’s Big Paint.  So much fun!  Great to meet all of the talented painters, hang out with other stockists, spend time with Annie herself and enjoy the crazy city!  When I returned home, my mom pointed out that New Orleans is now known as the murder capital of the US.  Good to know.  NOT!  Check out this beautiful piece that Sandy did before we arrived and Annie reposted it and called her a fabulous painter!  Sweet.  Click here to see it for sale in our online store.

Here are some fun snaps from that weekend!  First pic, Annie Sloan, me & Sandy.  Second pic is me with Kacha (super talented and famous painter) with her husband Carlos.  I was telling them about my instagram account for @carlosnchacha and we were laughing because it was so close to their names, Carlos and Kacha!  Check her out on instagram at @kachafurniture.

Third pic is Jonathan Marc Mendez who is a painter in residence for Annie Sloan.  Check him out here on Instagram.

Fourth pic is Brushed by Brandy (sooooo talented and a California girl) standing next to Quita Allen (also so talented) from All Shabbed Out and that was the piece that Quita painted in front of us.  It was my favorite piece!  I am trying to get Brandy to come down to the store for a Saturday workshop sometime this Fall.  If any of you follow her please let me know if you would be interested!

Final photo is Sharon, the Redesign with Prima Rep, and we are thinking about adding some of their products to the store. Please let me know your thoughts!

So, we also managed to have some non-paint related fun while in NOLA.  Vicki Penne my friend from Idaho was there for the stockist Monday event so we went out to dinner with her at Two Sisters and also did a tour of the city.  The cemetaries in NOLA are crazy interesting.

What a whirlwind!  I was happy to be back in Ventura though when I arrived home on Tuesday evening, September 20th.  However, my time at home would be short lived as I had plans to stay in LA on Thursday night for Indy’s show and to attend the first LIVE eBay Event in 3 years on Friday in downtown LA and THEN….head to the desert for a thrifting weekend.  Yes, I  am CRAZY!

But, I will tell you who I missed the most….Cha Cha and Carlos!

I actually really missed my kids as well, but for some reason, not as much as the animals.  Strange, but true.  It was National Daughter and National Son day this past week, so let me share those posts with you so that you can see I do love my REAL kids!  LOL!

As I was looking for old May Company California pictures, I came across some pictures of Melanie Souve’s (my best friend from high school) ex-boyfriend Bart.

She met him back in 1987 and moved to Los Angeles because of him….well mostly!  Anyway, Peter (my boyfriend then) and I used to hang out with the two of them all the time.  While I was in NOLA, Mel text me to let me know that Bart had passed away.  UGHHHHHHHH.

Too many men in their 50’s & 60’s are dying from heart attacks.  I have heard that it may be related to Covid or the vaccine.  In any event, it is super tragic and my heart breaks for Bart’s family and his young boys.

Here are a few pics that I found of Bart & Melanie and then me and my gang at Gino’s East in Brentwood back in the day.  The blonde next to me was Jay Payes (my best guy friend at USC) who passed away at 35 from an accidental drug overdose.  OMG…the ezine is getting really depressing…..I promise to change it up in the next section!

Our next calligraphy course is Sunday, November 13th from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Her last class was a huge success and my mom took it and LOVED it!   and these are being taught by one of my very first consignors…Joy Goldowitz!

OK!  Just as promised some good, uplifting news!  Time for an eBay score!  This amazing pin cushion came out of my grandmother’s personal collection.  The lady who bought it made me a best offer of $300 and said “I would love to have something that belonged to your grandmother”…gets me every time!  Sold!  Check out the listing here for more great pictures of it.

After my brief two days home, it was time to hit the road again!  I had reserved the Marilyn Bungalow in Hollywood as you read at the beginning of this ezine (where I actually started writing this).  If you can’t figure it out, it takes me DAYS to write these.

But I do enjoy it and am practicing for my first novel that I intend to start writing in October.  I signed up for a bunch of Master Classes with famous authors and will hit that hard!

I also teased in the title of the newsletter that I would be off somewhere else soon…that was the idea…as I had a business trip planned in November, but I just cleared my calendar and will be staying close to home to write through the end of the year.  That is the goal…One fiction novel by year’s end!  Wish me luck!

We had a little pre-party in the bungalow before Indy’s show.  Quite a few of her friends and co-workers showed up and my friend Chris Wade drove up from San Clemente and brought rum infused pineapple (nice party favor :)).  Always a fun time to see Indy perform.  Here are some fun photos from that night!

The next morning was the first eBay open LIVE event in over 3 years and they held it in only 3 cities, Austin, Downtown LA and New York.

I was happy to attend and catch up with some old friends & meet some new ones.  Although, Brian Burke (Sr. VP Seller Advocacy & Engagement) did not know who I was.  LOL!  He had to read my name tag….and then he claimed he hadn’t seen me in 3 years…Whatever…we follow each other on Instagram, but yes, I did call him out!

First pic is me and former Queen’s Court Member Janet Z, 2nd pic is Brian & me and final one is the new head of US, Adam Ireland.

Before I get into my recent Palm Desert trip,  I just wanted to remind you about our clothing store!   If you missed the email saying what we are looking for in clothingplease read it here before you come in.  Thanks!

So, I left from the eBay event in downtown LA to head to Palm Desert at 1:30 pm on a Friday.  Took me 3 1/2 hours to get to the desert.  Ughhhhh!  But it was all good.  Had a lot of fun catching up with Mo, Vicki (from Idaho who was out there after Nola as well), Carmen and Kel.

Unfortunately, Candy was out of town…but next time!  Actually, the girsl are all headed out here on October 14th for VIP seats to see Tim McGraw at Surfers Point!  Can’t wait!

Here are some fun pics…1st one is Vicki, me & Mo at the American Legion after having brunch at Le Valeruis.

2nd one is Mo, Carmen and me at Skip’s Little Bar for dinner.  But, yes we did do A LOT of thrifting and working in addition to  the fun festivities.

So check out these plates I found while out thrifting…seriously?  $125 for a set of 8 Godinger Salad Plates.  NO Fing WAY!

But later on that same day, I did find a set of Lunt Silver Stainless Flatware that was also prices at $125, but I will sell it for close to $2k.  Life is great!

Speaking of life being great…just found out that we took 3rd place in the Ventura Reporter’s Best of Ventura County in Home Furnishings.  1st Place went to For your Home and 2nd Place went to Couch Potato (can’t really figure that one out) and we were 3rd.

Please let me know how we can improve during the next year to make it to the #1 position.  That is my current goal…among other things!  LOL!

Since I have been very introspective and reminiscing these past few weeks, I thought I would share a funny text exchange with my friend Marty from High School.

He texts me this picture the other morning.  OK, it is a class photo from Fairhaven Middle School in Bellingham (where we also went to school together) and I say super cute….and you are standing next to Mike Stewart.  Marty is upper left with the super black hair and Mike has the “Rex Smith” do with braces.

Then I remember that darling Mike Stewart was killed in Alaska right after high school.  So I ask Marty about it and he gives me more details and I find this story in People Magazine.  CRAZY!

You can read it here.  I am so sorry that this ezine has been about people passing away…However, I guess that is just a fact of life.  But on a funny note….Marty asks on Facebook (really?) if that red head in front of him is me?  Seriously?  Do I even look like that person?

So I answer him on Facebook…and say “LOL, not me?” and then he write…”I hope I am not in trouble”…well guess what? You are! Hahahaha!

08182022 It’s My Mom’s Birthday & Other Happenings…. Lynn’s Latest #006

I can’t believe it is August already!  What in the World? As my dad used to say.  I love this picture of my dad with my brother Lee and me.  We were totally scared to go stand by the Buckingham Palace guard and horse and my dad got so mad at us that we are smiling and he is frowning.  LOL!  Oh, the joys of parenthood!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #006…
Thursday, August 18th

Watch for it every Thursday or every other Thursday, Friday or Saturday!
Actually, let’s be honest…watch for it whenever I get one finished hahahaha
Volume III  Issue 006

So the day after my last ezine came out I was on a road trip to the desert. I was driving out there to fly to Bellingham from PSP. I hate flying out of LAX and needed to get out to the desert for a haircut and teeth cleaning. LOL. We lived for 16 years in the desert and I still go to my favorite people…Sherry Mesa & Dr. D my dentist. So great to see them and catch up!
I also go to thrift and take merch to my eBay assistant Mo to list for me. The day I left for Bellingham, we stopped by The Revivals in Palm Springs. As we were walking in, a man came out carrying a set of flatware. Damn! I said, That should have been mine! Inside I found one set and was getting ready to pay when I saw another set being put out. I said to Mo, “Quick get over there and check it out”. She did! And came right back and said, “you had better get over there as there are about 10 sets of flatware”! OMG! Total Score. Flatware is my FAVORITE thing to buy and sell on eBay.

As I was perusing the many sets, I looked up into a familiar face. “Dennis?” I said. And he said “Lynn!, I was just thinking about you when I priced this set of Ventura flatware”. Crazy, small world! Dennis also sells on eBay & is one of my loyal ezine readers from way back and unbeknownst to me now volunteers at the Revivals in Palm Springs. His boss was on vacation and he found 10 sets of flatware in the back and decided to price them and get them on the floor. What amazing timing I had that day!

Here is a photo that showed up in my timehop of me and Dennis and a few other people at the last live eBay on Location event that we all attended in Las Vegas 5 years ago.  Crazy!

Here is one of the listings from that bunch of flatware! I paid $35 for the set of Wallace Colonial Hammered and this one listing will more than pay for the entire set! Score. Check it out here.

I was headed up to Bellingham for my high school friend Jo Dallas’ daughter in law’s baby shower.  That was a mouthful!  While in Bellingham, I did go out to dinner with another of my high school friends Marty to celebrate his turning 60.  OMG!  How can that even be happening?

I do not feel anywhere near 60 years old.  We had dinner at Dirty Dan’s in Old Fairhaven.  I love that restaurant and hadn’t been there in years.  When I was married, William and I used to go there to celebrate big occasions like buying a house or having a baby.  I guess Marty turning 60 is also a big occasion!

That reminds me of when my dad turned 60 back in 1994.  I had just moved back to Bellingham and thought it was such a huge milestone and should be properly celebrated.  So, I took out an ad in the Bellingham Herald with  a photo of him as a kid and said “Happy 60th Wayne Dralle”.  He did NOT find it amusing.  My kids had better NOT do anything like that for me when I turn next year.

The baby shower was amazing!  Jo Dallas went all out for it.  My mom was also invited so it made for a super fun day!

While in Bellingham in July, my mom and I also took some time to thrift.  We headed to the Assistance League Thrift Store across from Haggens on Meridian on the Thursday when Seniors get 10% off.  Wow!  When we got to the store, there was a sign on the door saying that they were going to be closed until August since so many of their volunteers were out with Covid.  Bummer!  But as we were leaving we ran into Theresa Meurs.  I LOVE Theresa!  She did my grandmother’s estate sale for us and she is a pro.  It was so great to see her!

With all this talk of thrifting, it’s time for an eBay score, don’t you think?

I bought this baseball player bronze statue at a thrift store, years ago when Houston (my son) was playing travel baseball.  I think I paid $50 for it.  It has been listed on eBay for almost 5 years.  Patience is a virtue.  Sold it for a best offer of $1,500 last week.  Yipppppeeeeee!

Check it out here.

Here is one of my favorite pictures of Houston back in the travel baseball days.  We were in Cooperstown for the big tournament and Houston hit the winning home run over the fence of the Big Green Giant.  My dad had never been so proud before.

Oh and I would be remiss if I didn’t share a photo of my dad with Indiana during that same tournament.  My dad sure loved my kids and they loved him.  He was the only real father figure they have had.  It makes me sad that he has been gone 5 years.  Ughhhh.

Speaking of losses, it is with a heavy heart that I let y’all know that we lost one of our favorite consignors and someone who turned out to be a good friend .  Bill Swisher passed away last week.  He will be greatly missed.  Here he is with his wife Susan at my recent house warming party.  RIP.

When I flew back into Palm Springs after my July Bellingham trip, my good friend and eBay assistant Mo, decided to follow me back out to Ventura to do some work for me and get out of the heat!  Mo does not like to drive on the Cali freeways so this was huge for her!

She made it and I was very proud of her!  She ended up staying in my casita for almost 10 days.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new house because I can have house guests and literally never see them.  We had a blast and did a lot of fun things!  Like dinners out etc.  I don’t have many pictures of us but I do have some fun drink pics.  LOL.

It was also awesome because Indiana had 3 shows while Mo was here and she got to go with us to all of them!  Check out this post that Indiana did showing all of her July shows and I LOVE the caption she put with it…

Mama I’ve Made it!

The first show we went to see was “Tales of The City” Los Angeles at the Comedy Nook and we went to one of our favorite Melrose Restaurants before hand, Spartina.  I finally got to celebrate Houston’s birthday with him in person.  Hadn’t seen him since his birthday on July 10th.  Such a fun night!  Here we are out to dinner!  It was Indy’s first hosting gig that night and she did an AMAZING JOB!

The next show was character roulette and Indy brought back her bicyclist and added a new character, a barista. Makes perfect sense since she just landed a new job at Cafe Luxe an upscale coffee shop with locations in Santa Monica, Brentwood, Montecito, Pacific Palisades and Malibu. She is in training to become the best barista ever! We had dinner before hand at Umbrella Company, another one of our favorite Melrose restaurants!

Before I forget, our Instagram accounts, LynnsFunFashions and LynnsConsignments have been getting better and better! Thank you Rachelle :)! Please follow us if you don’t. You can now buy product directly from the Instagram post through our website and Rachelle has been posting new fashion items and store items daily. Please check them out & give us a follow. Here is a sampling.

OK, before I share about Indy’s final show of the tryptich, let me share a few TBT (Throw Back Tuesday or Thursday whichever you prefer) photos that I posted recently on the Instagram.

First one is one that I took a photo of that was in a photo collage on my mom’s hallway wall when I was up in Bham in July. So much fun and for all of you wondering if I am a real redhead…..yes I am and I don’t have to color my hair. It is natural! This was when my grandma Cheryl Leaf, my brother Lee and I returned from a spur of the moment trip to Hong Kong. Yes, spur of the moment back then was 2 weeks notice!

And for the next TBT photo, I was looking through old yearbooks and found this hysterical photo of me and one of my sorority sisters during Greek Week at USC.  Seriously?  7 days of FUN!  Well back then, University of Southern California was 365 days of fun!

So Indy’s third show while Mo was here visiting was the Comedy Embargo at the Harlowe Bar.  It felt so OLD HOLLYWOOD and it was a super fun show.  Indy hosted again and it was a great time!

Since Mo was out here visiting me from Palm Desert, Candy and her husband Ron also decided to come out to Ventura.  So much fun to have my Palm Desert besties in Ventura!  Unfortunatly, Kel couldn’t join us.  Ughhhhh!

While Mo was here visiting we worked out at Fit Buddha 4 times!  Go us!  Saturday morning after our workout, Sandy, Mo and I headed over to a new restaurant (I think it is called The Six) right across from Fit Buddha for Bloody Mary’s.  It was a little too convenient!

As July came to a close, Mo headed back to the Desert and I was getting ready for a major road trip! I was heading up to Bellingham, Washington to throw my mom and Cha Cha a big birthday party. My mom was turning 86 and Cha Cha 2!

I couldn’t put her in the cargo section of the plane (cha cha not my mom :)) so decided the only way to get her up there to frolic on my mom’s beach was if I drove her. Ughhhh! Indy was going to ride with me up, but we couldn’t leave until July 31st as she had a show on July 30th. Her show on the 30th was once again in WeHo and she did 10 minutes of stand up and killed it! She is getting really good! One of her bits was about the lady in middle school who would check you out for scoliosis. Here is a link to it on TicToc.

The morning after the show Indiana, Cha Cha and I got on the road at 7 am. Started out to be an epic day!  We had plans to make it to Dunsmuir to eat an early dinner at Yaks Burgers and then we had a hotel reserved in Yreka for the night.

We headed up the 101 instead of taking the I5. Much better choice and so scenic and fun. Our first stop was 5 hours in at a Starbucks. Then Indy drove 3 hours and I took over for the last 3 hours of the day. We had an epic early dinner at Yaks where Cha Cha even got her own burger patty with chopped bacon on the top.

All was good as we started driving our final 40 minutes from Dunsmuir to Yreka where we had a hotel reserved & paid for.  About 5 minutes outside of Dunsmuir it started getting really foggy.  But then it got super dark.  OMG, it started to look like a fire.  ..

Indiana was traumatized by the Woolsey fire that hit the Malibu area when she was at Pepperdine.  This was not a good thing to be driving into so I had Indy call the hotel and the receptionist said that they were “under a warning”.  We were only 5 mins away at that time, so decided to check it out for ourselves.

Once we drove into town it was even darker.  I asked the hotel receptionist what should we do and she said “Go north”.  She was going to credit my cc with no penalty so off Indy and I went.

We started calling hotels in Medford and Ashland looking for rooms. EVERYONE was sold out. So we just kept driving north. Finally ended up in Grant’s Pass and had to pay $250 for one night. I will tell you about our 2nd less eventful (but maybe not) day after I remind you about our upcoming course on Sunday. We have 3 students so far!
Our next calligraphy course is Sunday, August 21st from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Her last class was a huge success!   and these are being taught by one of my very first consignors…Joy Goldowitz!

She is a teaching dynamo!  Her course “Calligraphy:  The Art of Beautiful Lettering” will be offered on Sunday, August 21st from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

OMG! I want to take this class! My mom just text me and she is going to take this class. She is signed up!

Sign up here.

We have also decided to schedule caligraphy courses through the end of the year. So, if that date doesn’t work for you. Hopefully, one of these will!

Sunday, September 11th
Sunday, October 9th
Sunday, November 13th

We will be scheduling an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Class and an Iron Orchid Design class for sometime in September. Please let us know your preferences if you are interested…..evening? afternoon? weekend?

Check out this project piece that Sandy has been working on. How cute is it? It has IRON Orchid Design transfer and moulds on it. BTW, the new IOD Winter releases will be for sale on August 24th. So exciting! They have arrived in store but we can’t sell them until that launch date :)!

But back to the road trip.  I have not done that drive since I used to drive the kids up every summer (before travel baseball consumed our lives) and we would live with my mom at her beach house for a few months.  I think the last time we did that drive was 2005.  I now remember why!

Day 2 started out with a 7:30 am phone call from Paula the owner at Barke & Bathe.  I thought it must be a mistake so didn’t answer.  Then I got a text with a photo of the police in front of my store.  Next phone call was from a police detective.  Someone had broken our front door’s glass.  Thank GOD they didn’t get in nor break one of the big windows.  The day was starting off to be quite interesting.  Indiana said to me, “OMG, what could go wrong next?”.  And I was like, “Honey it is stuff like this that makes life an adventure….& keeps my attention”

Well, thank God for Sandy (my newly appointed store manager) who came to the rescue.  Sandy met the police and arranged for the door to get boarded up and new glass ordered.  So cool that I can leave town and know that I have the best team in place!  Such a great feeling.

And Indy and I continued on our road trip!  We decided to stop in Eugene and go by the house where Indiana’s dad, William, had grown up.  William’s Dad, Doug, had died when Wm was 8 years old in a plane crash when he was covering a story as the County Editor for the Eugene Register Guard.  So crazy that in front of the house was one of those “old” newspaper holders for that same paper.  Life is strange sometimes, sad and still very interesting.

Since Indiana and I had done almost 12 hours that first day of the road trip, we were able to do a pretty easy day 2 and make it to an early dinner at Anthony’s in Bellingham.  My mom drove in and met us.  I had to laugh when we parked at the restaurant and I got this photo of the back of my SUV.  Houston had asked me to bring up his bike so he could cycle around Bellingham  in addition to all of the other crap one takes on a road trip!  LOL!

Since we made it up to Bellingham, it is time for a station break.  OK, just a heads up.  We now have a clearance area for clothing.  Take 25% off the lowest prices.  Come in and check it out!

But back to the Bellingham trip.  Indiana and I had a lot of fun with Mor Mor and Cha Cha before everyone else arrived on the Thursday before the big party that was set to take place on Saturday, August 6th.  Here we are at the airport when everyone arrived….including Grandpa and Cha Cha!

So the first day they were in town, we just hung out at the beach.  Houston resorted to his usual rock baseball bat hitting and Emma (crazy NJ girl that she is) actually got into Hales Passage to swim.  Are you serious?  Yes, I am.  And then, they put Grandpa in the water as well.  What in the world?

The next day we headed out for a 9 am soccer game of Kai’s in Burlington.  His team did great and we all went out to breakfast after at Mr. T’s in Mount Vernon.  So much fun!  Houston did a bike ride to Birch Bay and back while the rest of us chilled…..Then we did an early dinner at Anthony’s….our favorite!  It is always so much fun to be home in the B’ham!  My brother arrived that night at 7 pm….we were all in the house and ready for the big party the next day!

Before I share all of the fun pictures from the big birthday, just wanted to remind you about our clothing store! If you missed the email saying what we are looking for in clothing…please read it here before you come in. Thanks!

Also, start collecting your Fall items and Adult Halloween Costumes. We will start taking in Fall on August 1st. Call or text the girls to set up an appointment.

My mom and Cha Cha’s birthday party turned out to be perfect! Seriously! So many wonderful people showed up. My step mom Sue and my step sisters Rita & Renae and some of their kids. My dad married Sue after I married William so I think it was around 1994, so we didn’t grow up together but we all still feel like family. Rita & Renae’s kids feel like my kid’s cousins so that was super special.

My sister’s best friends Missy and Tara also showed up.  So great to see them as they have been such a huge part of my nephew’s lives…they are called the aunties!

And two high school friends showed up, Jo Dallas and Marty Mundell.  Such a fun day!  Unfortunately, my kids had to fly out the next morning at 6 am.  Yikes!

My brother and I left on Monday morning to drive back to So Cal.  I would be dropping him off at his house in Berkeley and spending the night at a hotel in the Berkeley Marina.  That was a super long day.  We left at 7 am and I didn’t get to my hotel until 10:30 pm.  Poor Cha Cha…that was too long for her to be cooped up in the car.  And she went a little CRAZY once we got into the hotel room.  LOL!

The good news is that after that 14 hour drive, I only had 6 more hours to get back to Ventura!  That day was a breeze and we were both so happy to be home!  Not sure if I will be doing that drive anytime soon again.

Back to the store…. don’t forget you can shop online with us.  What has been selling the best lately is our Baggu inventory.  People from around the world have been ordering.  Pretty cool!  Here is a link to our Baggu online.

The night after I returned to Ventura was Cheap Trick at the Fair.  I couldn’t miss that could I?  Sandy took me as my birthday present and we had soooooo much fun!  I LOVE the Ventura County Fair.  So glad it is back!

One last fun thing to talk about before I wrap up this newsletter. Last Friday night I was invited to a “kick your booty” party at Fit Buddha hosted by Joanne Carolan. It was so much fun! 10 of us went out to dinner after at Rum Fish and here is a picture of some of us.

Marc Kettles and his wife Eva own Fit Buddha and he was my “college crush” at USC. We went to several sorority/frat parties together. So when I posted the Rum Fish picture on Instagram and Facebook, I couldn’t resist sharing one of my favorite photos of us back in the day.

One of our favorite consignors/friends, Pat Clark, posted the cutest comment on Facebook.  I LOVE this!  Thanks Pat!

But in the best news from that evening, Terri Nunn, the lead singer of Berlin, is a good friend of my friend Joanne and she was at the Fit Buddha party and also joined us for dinner.  Super fun getting to know her better and  I asked her when her next shows were and she said she had one on August 18th in Orange County with Boy George.  Too cool!

The next thing I know Joanne texts me and we have 4 tickets comped to attend that show tonight.  My mom just flew in with Zach and Kai (my nephews) and we are joining Joanne, Jeff and their daughter Alana at the concert in Orange County.  We are so excited and what a great way to spend my mom’s actual birthday!

Thank you all for supporting me, my family and my businesses as I work on expanding….as you know I am building my empire!
