08182022 It’s My Mom’s Birthday & Other Happenings…. Lynn’s Latest #006

I can’t believe it is August already!  What in the World? As my dad used to say.  I love this picture of my dad with my brother Lee and me.  We were totally scared to go stand by the Buckingham Palace guard and horse and my dad got so mad at us that we are smiling and he is frowning.  LOL!  Oh, the joys of parenthood!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #006…
Thursday, August 18th

Watch for it every Thursday or every other Thursday, Friday or Saturday!
Actually, let’s be honest…watch for it whenever I get one finished hahahaha
Volume III  Issue 006

So the day after my last ezine came out I was on a road trip to the desert. I was driving out there to fly to Bellingham from PSP. I hate flying out of LAX and needed to get out to the desert for a haircut and teeth cleaning. LOL. We lived for 16 years in the desert and I still go to my favorite people…Sherry Mesa & Dr. D my dentist. So great to see them and catch up!
I also go to thrift and take merch to my eBay assistant Mo to list for me. The day I left for Bellingham, we stopped by The Revivals in Palm Springs. As we were walking in, a man came out carrying a set of flatware. Damn! I said, That should have been mine! Inside I found one set and was getting ready to pay when I saw another set being put out. I said to Mo, “Quick get over there and check it out”. She did! And came right back and said, “you had better get over there as there are about 10 sets of flatware”! OMG! Total Score. Flatware is my FAVORITE thing to buy and sell on eBay.

As I was perusing the many sets, I looked up into a familiar face. “Dennis?” I said. And he said “Lynn!, I was just thinking about you when I priced this set of Ventura flatware”. Crazy, small world! Dennis also sells on eBay & is one of my loyal ezine readers from way back and unbeknownst to me now volunteers at the Revivals in Palm Springs. His boss was on vacation and he found 10 sets of flatware in the back and decided to price them and get them on the floor. What amazing timing I had that day!

Here is a photo that showed up in my timehop of me and Dennis and a few other people at the last live eBay on Location event that we all attended in Las Vegas 5 years ago.  Crazy!

Here is one of the listings from that bunch of flatware! I paid $35 for the set of Wallace Colonial Hammered and this one listing will more than pay for the entire set! Score. Check it out here.

I was headed up to Bellingham for my high school friend Jo Dallas’ daughter in law’s baby shower.  That was a mouthful!  While in Bellingham, I did go out to dinner with another of my high school friends Marty to celebrate his turning 60.  OMG!  How can that even be happening?

I do not feel anywhere near 60 years old.  We had dinner at Dirty Dan’s in Old Fairhaven.  I love that restaurant and hadn’t been there in years.  When I was married, William and I used to go there to celebrate big occasions like buying a house or having a baby.  I guess Marty turning 60 is also a big occasion!

That reminds me of when my dad turned 60 back in 1994.  I had just moved back to Bellingham and thought it was such a huge milestone and should be properly celebrated.  So, I took out an ad in the Bellingham Herald with  a photo of him as a kid and said “Happy 60th Wayne Dralle”.  He did NOT find it amusing.  My kids had better NOT do anything like that for me when I turn next year.

The baby shower was amazing!  Jo Dallas went all out for it.  My mom was also invited so it made for a super fun day!

While in Bellingham in July, my mom and I also took some time to thrift.  We headed to the Assistance League Thrift Store across from Haggens on Meridian on the Thursday when Seniors get 10% off.  Wow!  When we got to the store, there was a sign on the door saying that they were going to be closed until August since so many of their volunteers were out with Covid.  Bummer!  But as we were leaving we ran into Theresa Meurs.  I LOVE Theresa!  She did my grandmother’s estate sale for us and she is a pro.  It was so great to see her!

With all this talk of thrifting, it’s time for an eBay score, don’t you think?

I bought this baseball player bronze statue at a thrift store, years ago when Houston (my son) was playing travel baseball.  I think I paid $50 for it.  It has been listed on eBay for almost 5 years.  Patience is a virtue.  Sold it for a best offer of $1,500 last week.  Yipppppeeeeee!

Check it out here.

Here is one of my favorite pictures of Houston back in the travel baseball days.  We were in Cooperstown for the big tournament and Houston hit the winning home run over the fence of the Big Green Giant.  My dad had never been so proud before.

Oh and I would be remiss if I didn’t share a photo of my dad with Indiana during that same tournament.  My dad sure loved my kids and they loved him.  He was the only real father figure they have had.  It makes me sad that he has been gone 5 years.  Ughhhh.

Speaking of losses, it is with a heavy heart that I let y’all know that we lost one of our favorite consignors and someone who turned out to be a good friend .  Bill Swisher passed away last week.  He will be greatly missed.  Here he is with his wife Susan at my recent house warming party.  RIP.

When I flew back into Palm Springs after my July Bellingham trip, my good friend and eBay assistant Mo, decided to follow me back out to Ventura to do some work for me and get out of the heat!  Mo does not like to drive on the Cali freeways so this was huge for her!

She made it and I was very proud of her!  She ended up staying in my casita for almost 10 days.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new house because I can have house guests and literally never see them.  We had a blast and did a lot of fun things!  Like dinners out etc.  I don’t have many pictures of us but I do have some fun drink pics.  LOL.

It was also awesome because Indiana had 3 shows while Mo was here and she got to go with us to all of them!  Check out this post that Indiana did showing all of her July shows and I LOVE the caption she put with it…

Mama I’ve Made it!

The first show we went to see was “Tales of The City” Los Angeles at the Comedy Nook and we went to one of our favorite Melrose Restaurants before hand, Spartina.  I finally got to celebrate Houston’s birthday with him in person.  Hadn’t seen him since his birthday on July 10th.  Such a fun night!  Here we are out to dinner!  It was Indy’s first hosting gig that night and she did an AMAZING JOB!

The next show was character roulette and Indy brought back her bicyclist and added a new character, a barista. Makes perfect sense since she just landed a new job at Cafe Luxe an upscale coffee shop with locations in Santa Monica, Brentwood, Montecito, Pacific Palisades and Malibu. She is in training to become the best barista ever! We had dinner before hand at Umbrella Company, another one of our favorite Melrose restaurants!

Here is a sampling.

OK, before I share about Indy’s final show of the tryptich, let me share a few TBT (Throw Back Tuesday or Thursday whichever you prefer) photos that I posted recently on the Instagram.

First one is one that I took a photo of that was in a photo collage on my mom’s hallway wall when I was up in Bham in July. So much fun and for all of you wondering if I am a real redhead…..yes I am and I don’t have to color my hair. It is natural! This was when my grandma Cheryl Leaf, my brother Lee and I returned from a spur of the moment trip to Hong Kong. Yes, spur of the moment back then was 2 weeks notice!

And for the next TBT photo, I was looking through old yearbooks and found this hysterical photo of me and one of my sorority sisters during Greek Week at USC.  Seriously?  7 days of FUN!  Well back then, University of Southern California was 365 days of fun!

So Indy’s third show while Mo was here visiting was the Comedy Embargo at the Harlowe Bar.  It felt so OLD HOLLYWOOD and it was a super fun show.  Indy hosted again and it was a great time!

Since Mo was out here visiting me from Palm Desert, Candy and her husband Ron also decided to come out to Ventura.  So much fun to have my Palm Desert besties in Ventura!  Unfortunatly, Kel couldn’t join us.  Ughhhhh!

While Mo was here visiting we worked out at Fit Buddha 4 times!  Go us!  Saturday morning after our workout, Sandy, Mo and I headed over to a new restaurant (I think it is called The Six) right across from Fit Buddha for Bloody Mary’s.  It was a little too convenient!

As July came to a close, Mo headed back to the Desert and I was getting ready for a major road trip! I was heading up to Bellingham, Washington to throw my mom and Cha Cha a big birthday party. My mom was turning 86 and Cha Cha 2!

I couldn’t put her in the cargo section of the plane (cha cha not my mom :)) so decided the only way to get her up there to frolic on my mom’s beach was if I drove her. Ughhhh! Indy was going to ride with me up, but we couldn’t leave until July 31st as she had a show on July 30th. Her show on the 30th was once again in WeHo and she did 10 minutes of stand up and killed it! She is getting really good! One of her bits was about the lady in middle school who would check you out for scoliosis. Here is a link to it on TicToc.

The morning after the show Indiana, Cha Cha and I got on the road at 7 am. Started out to be an epic day!  We had plans to make it to Dunsmuir to eat an early dinner at Yaks Burgers and then we had a hotel reserved in Yreka for the night.

We headed up the 101 instead of taking the I5. Much better choice and so scenic and fun. Our first stop was 5 hours in at a Starbucks. Then Indy drove 3 hours and I took over for the last 3 hours of the day. We had an epic early dinner at Yaks where Cha Cha even got her own burger patty with chopped bacon on the top.

All was good as we started driving our final 40 minutes from Dunsmuir to Yreka where we had a hotel reserved & paid for.  About 5 minutes outside of Dunsmuir it started getting really foggy.  But then it got super dark.  OMG, it started to look like a fire.  ..

Indiana was traumatized by the Woolsey fire that hit the Malibu area when she was at Pepperdine.  This was not a good thing to be driving into so I had Indy call the hotel and the receptionist said that they were “under a warning”.  We were only 5 mins away at that time, so decided to check it out for ourselves.

Once we drove into town it was even darker.  I asked the hotel receptionist what should we do and she said “Go north”.  She was going to credit my cc with no penalty so off Indy and I went.

We started calling hotels in Medford and Ashland looking for rooms. EVERYONE was sold out. So we just kept driving north. Finally ended up in Grant’s Pass and had to pay $250 for one night. I will tell you about our 2nd less eventful (but maybe not) day after I remind you about our upcoming course on Sunday. We have 3 students so far!
Our next calligraphy course is Sunday, August 21st from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Her last class was a huge success!   and these are being taught by one of my very first consignors…Joy Goldowitz!

She is a teaching dynamo!  Her course “Calligraphy:  The Art of Beautiful Lettering” will be offered on Sunday, August 21st from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

The course is just $59 and includes a gift box full of calligraphy supplies!  What?  This is unreal 🙂

Joy is a retired (after 37 years) elementary school teacher. She is a lover of the relaxing art of hand lettering, beautiful inks and stationary of all ilks. She is a passionate teacher who happily loves sharing her techniques with others. She will guide you on a journey creating lovely letters to embellish words, names, addresses, cards, gift tags etc.

OMG! I want to take this class! My mom just text me and she is going to take this class. She is signed up!

Sign up here.

We have also decided to schedule caligraphy courses through the end of the year. So, if that date doesn’t work for you. Hopefully, one of these will!

Sunday, September 11th
Sunday, October 9th
Sunday, November 13th

We will be scheduling an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Class and an Iron Orchid Design class for sometime in September. Please let us know your preferences if you are interested…..evening? afternoon? weekend?

Check out this project piece that Sandy has been working on. How cute is it? It has IRON Orchid Design transfer and moulds on it. BTW, the new IOD Winter releases will be for sale on August 24th. So exciting! They have arrived in store but we can’t sell them until that launch date :)!

But back to the road trip.  I have not done that drive since I used to drive the kids up every summer (before travel baseball consumed our lives) and we would live with my mom at her beach house for a few months.  I think the last time we did that drive was 2005.  I now remember why!

Day 2 started out with a 7:30 am phone call from Paula the owner at Barke & Bathe.  I thought it must be a mistake so didn’t answer.  Then I got a text with a photo of the police in front of my store.  Next phone call was from a police detective.  Someone had broken our front door’s glass.  Thank GOD they didn’t get in nor break one of the big windows.  The day was starting off to be quite interesting.  Indiana said to me, “OMG, what could go wrong next?”.  And I was like, “Honey it is stuff like this that makes life an adventure….& keeps my attention”

Well, thank God for Sandy (my newly appointed store manager) who came to the rescue.  Sandy met the police and arranged for the door to get boarded up and new glass ordered.  So cool that I can leave town and know that I have the best team in place!  Such a great feeling.

And Indy and I continued on our road trip!  We decided to stop in Eugene and go by the house where Indiana’s dad, William, had grown up.  William’s Dad, Doug, had died when Wm was 8 years old in a plane crash when he was covering a story as the County Editor for the Eugene Register Guard.  So crazy that in front of the house was one of those “old” newspaper holders for that same paper.  Life is strange sometimes, sad and still very interesting.

Since Indiana and I had done almost 12 hours that first day of the road trip, we were able to do a pretty easy day 2 and make it to an early dinner at Anthony’s in Bellingham.  My mom drove in and met us.  I had to laugh when we parked at the restaurant and I got this photo of the back of my SUV.  Houston had asked me to bring up his bike so he could cycle around Bellingham  in addition to all of the other crap one takes on a road trip!  LOL!

Since we made it up to Bellingham, it is time for a station break.  OK, just a heads up.  We now have a clearance area for clothing.  Take 25% off the lowest prices.  Come in and check it out!

But back to the Bellingham trip.  Indiana and I had a lot of fun with Mor Mor and Cha Cha before everyone else arrived on the Thursday before the big party that was set to take place on Saturday, August 6th.  Here we are at the airport when everyone arrived….including Grandpa and Cha Cha!

So the first day they were in town, we just hung out at the beach.  Houston resorted to his usual rock baseball bat hitting and Emma (crazy NJ girl that she is) actually got into Hales Passage to swim.  Are you serious?  Yes, I am.  And then, they put Grandpa in the water as well.  What in the world?

The next day we headed out for a 9 am soccer game of Kai’s in Burlington.  His team did great and we all went out to breakfast after at Mr. T’s in Mount Vernon.  So much fun!  Houston did a bike ride to Birch Bay and back while the rest of us chilled…..Then we did an early dinner at Anthony’s….our favorite!  It is always so much fun to be home in the B’ham!  My brother arrived that night at 7 pm….we were all in the house and ready for the big party the next day!

Before I share all of the fun pictures from the big birthday, just wanted to remind you about our clothing store! If you missed the email saying what we are looking for in clothing…please read it here before you come in. Thanks!

Also, start collecting your Fall items and Adult Halloween Costumes. We will start taking in Fall on August 1st. Call or text the girls to set up an appointment.

My mom and Cha Cha’s birthday party turned out to be perfect! Seriously! So many wonderful people showed up. My step mom Sue and my step sisters Rita & Renae and some of their kids. My dad married Sue after I married William so I think it was around 1994, so we didn’t grow up together but we all still feel like family. Rita & Renae’s kids feel like my kid’s cousins so that was super special.

My sister’s best friends Missy and Tara also showed up.  So great to see them as they have been such a huge part of my nephew’s lives…they are called the aunties!

And two high school friends showed up, Jo Dallas and Marty Mundell.  Such a fun day!  Unfortunately, my kids had to fly out the next morning at 6 am.  Yikes!

My brother and I left on Monday morning to drive back to So Cal.  I would be dropping him off at his house in Berkeley and spending the night at a hotel in the Berkeley Marina.  That was a super long day.  We left at 7 am and I didn’t get to my hotel until 10:30 pm.  Poor Cha Cha…that was too long for her to be cooped up in the car.  And she went a little CRAZY once we got into the hotel room.  LOL!

The good news is that after that 14 hour drive, I only had 6 more hours to get back to Ventura!  That day was a breeze and we were both so happy to be home!  Not sure if I will be doing that drive anytime soon again.

Back to the store…. don’t forget you can shop online with us.  What has been selling the best lately is our Baggu inventory.  People from around the world have been ordering.  Pretty cool!  Here is a link to our Baggu online.

The night after I returned to Ventura was Cheap Trick at the Fair.  I couldn’t miss that could I?  Sandy took me as my birthday present and we had soooooo much fun!  I LOVE the Ventura County Fair.  So glad it is back!

One last fun thing to talk about before I wrap up this newsletter. Last Friday night I was invited to a “kick your booty” party at Fit Buddha hosted by Joanne Carolan. It was so much fun! 10 of us went out to dinner after at Rum Fish and here is a picture of some of us.

Marc Kettles and his wife Eva own Fit Buddha and he was my “college crush” at USC. We went to several sorority/frat parties together. So when I posted the Rum Fish picture on Instagram and Facebook, I couldn’t resist sharing one of my favorite photos of us back in the day.

One of our favorite consignors/friends, Pat Clark, posted the cutest comment on Facebook.  I LOVE this!  Thanks Pat!

But in the best news from that evening, Terri Nunn, the lead singer of Berlin, is a good friend of my friend Joanne and she was at the Fit Buddha party and also joined us for dinner.  Super fun getting to know her better and  I asked her when her next shows were and she said she had one on August 18th in Orange County with Boy George.  Too cool!

The next thing I know Joanne texts me and we have 4 tickets comped to attend that show tonight.  My mom just flew in with Zach and Kai (my nephews) and we are joining Joanne, Jeff and their daughter Alana at the concert in Orange County.  We are so excited and what a great way to spend my mom’s actual birthday!

Thank you all for supporting me, my family and my businesses as I work on expanding….as you know I am building my empire!

071222 $1224 EBay Score & Tales From The Road!…. Lynn’s Latest #005

I am happy to be back and writing….you know that feeling when you are in the zone?  When you are working on something and time just stops?  That is what happens to me when I am writing.  It is the coolest thing.  Maybe I will have to write that novel!  More about that later 🙂

In the past month there was a cancelled Girl’s weekend (ugh), a surprise trip to Bellingham, a booth at the Lavender Festival in Ojai, an eBay radio interview, a super fun 4th of July block party and two birthdays!

Here is a fun photo from the recent block party.  I LOVE my new neighbourhood….such nice folks and a lot of young families.  Cha Cha digs all the kids.  I can’t believe I just said “digs”  LOL!

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #005…
Tuesday, July 12th

Watch for it every Thursday or every other Thursday, Friday or Saturday!
Actually, let’s be honest…watch for it whenever I get one finished hahahaha
Volume III  Issue 005

So the day after my last ezine came out, I was supposed to be hosting my bestest friends from the desert for a Ventura Girls Weekend.  I was sooooooo excited to share my new home with them and then Friday while working out at Fit Buddha, I got a text from Candy who said, “Kel’s garage is on fire…there is no way we will be coming out there today.”  WTF?

It was true.  My poor friend Kelleen.  Seriously?  How does this even happen?  They were able to save the house, but so much damage to the items stored in the garage.  It broke my heart.  For Kel and her kids & for my lost girls weekend.  I know I know….I am being selfish here.

And oh, that word selfish reminds me of the funniest story….I was in Chicago for an eBay event and Mo (my eBay assistant) and I were out to dinner with her sister Anne and her boyfriend Ed.  We were talking about our zodiac signs and she says to me…we are both selfish….I was like, I am not selfish…what are you even saying?

She meant to say shellfish since I am a Cancer and she is a Scorpio.  However, I don’t think either are actually shellfish.  Well, a scorpian is an insect and not even a fish.  And I just confirmed with my fisherman friend that a Crab is a shellfish…..So there is that!  Anyway, it has become a running joke in all of our lives.  Check out this piece of art Indy made for me in 2014 for Mother’s Day.  LOL.

Oh and that reminds me of a super fun time I did have in Chicago with Mo’s sister Anne.  I was out for a different eBay event….btw, eBay used to fly me all over the country for their events.  I was often a speaker or a guest panellist back in the day….so much fun!  But I digress….

For some reason, Mo wasn’t able to join us and one of my Queen’s Court members, Elizabeth Summers, had two extra tickets to James Taylor and Carol King….and invited me and Mo.  Mo wasn’t there, so Anne and I got to attend.

Here is a snippet of that story from one of my ezines from back in 2010.  Here is a link if you want read that ezine in its entirety.

“Elizabeth Summers (BookLovertoo) and her husband Brian took me and Mo’s sister (Anne) to the James Taylor/Carole King Concert. Elizabeth & Brian thank you so much for this incredible experience. Third row. Wow!

Here are the four of us before we headed to our seats.

But I get ahead of myself. When Anne and I got in the cab at the hotel, the cab driver turned around, looked at both of us girls and said, “How are you fellows doing this evening?” I looked at Anne and said, “Seriously?” We started cracking up and I don’t think I ever stopped laughing the entire time I was in Chicago. I think it is my new favorite city.

As soon as we got out of the cab at the United Center (where the Blackhawks had just won the Stanley cup–Yeah!!!) we told Elizabeth and Brian the story. We were still laughing so hard we were crying so had Elizabeth take a photo of Anne and me in front of the men’s bathroom.

Doesn’t Anne look just like Mo (Maureen)? Then we headed to our seats and as Anne and I followed Elizabeth and Brian down the stairs to the floor we kept saying “this is just getting better and better”! Check out our view from the third row.

So, for those of you who have noticed, I have been working out like CRAZY and have lost some weight. Trying to get in the best shape of my life for my next year birthday when I turn a big number. Ughhhh! Anyway, in that picture of me with Anne from 12 years ago, I am wearing some jeans that I can now wear again and pearls that were a gift from my boyfriend Peter’s mom (well he is long gone, but I still kept the jeans & the pearls). Pretty Fing cool if you ask me! I still have those jeans and it makes me smile everytime I wear them. LOL.
Crap, I get so carried away that I forget to write about things that y’all might actually care about. So, lets get right into the most amazing score of my mother’s eBay career. I think you would agree Mor Mor.

She went to an estate sale in Bellingham on the last day. Honestly, if someone tells the estate sale company about this score I think they would sh*t their pants. OK, OK, my swearing is kind of out of control, but that is just a part of who I am so please forgive me.

She paid $1.50 for all three of these sad little pathetic demitasse cups with NO SAUCERS. Did you hear that….NO SAUCERS. Well, she learned from the best (me and my grandma) and knows to ALWAYS buy anything Scandinavian.

Here is a link to the most expensive one of the two auctions.

How crazy was that score?  We live for these!  Since my weekend plans were scrapped (that darn fire) I had a few free days and volunteered to help my friend Janette (Island Girl Spray Tans) move to her new location.  She is now located across the street from us at 2018 E Main Street Suite B Ventura, right above Sticky Fingers Bakery.  She is the best in the game!

Later that day, I got a text from  Donna Kleinman.  Donna and I were buyers together back in the day for Lamps Plus.  She even made the trek up to Bellingham for my wedding.  I hadn’t seen her in years so it was super fun to catch up!  We are friends on Instagram so I feel like I know what is going on with her even though we haven’t spoken.  For all of its downfalls, social media is a great connector.  You just can’t get too sucked in!

Time for an eBay score before I get to the fun evening I had after that fun day!  Check out this flow blue platter that I bought in the desert for $12.  It was as is and cracked, but I just had a feeling about it.  A farm scene is quite rare in antique flow blue.  Got 7 bids and sold for $154.50.  I started the auction at $99.99.  Check it out here!

I actually talked about that platter in a recent interview I did with Griff.  You can check out that interview here.  We talk about the current recession among other things.  At one point Griff called me human Xanax.  I love that compliment…he says I just make him smile!

After my busy Saturday helping Janette move and meeting up with Donna, it was time to head to West Hollywood for Indiana’s show.  There were supposed to be 11 of us at dinner at the Umbrella Company (our new favorite restaurant), but because of the fire there were only 8 of us.  Still a great showing.

From left to right….Patrick (Indy’s friend from the Groundlings), me, Chris Wade (came up from San Clemente for the show–we went to USC together) and his friend Joe, Emma, Houston, Indiana and Indy’s friend Olivia (who puts on the comedy shows).

On my way walking into the restaurant my shoe broke.  Whatever!  Luckily, Marc the manager of the Umbrella Company restaurant took it in the back and fixed it for me with a screw.  LOL!  So friggin funny and then he reposted my Instagram story on his calling himself a Cobbler.  Made me love him MORE!  Seriously?  A cobbler…who even uses that word anymore?   And by the way, I am keeping the repair “as is”.  Ask me to show you my shoe next time you are in…hahahaha!  Don’t you love his Instagram user id….Marcfromthatbar?  So fun!

Indy’s show that night was FIRE and so much fun!  I was bummed my Palm Desert Girls weren’t with us, but hopefully next time!  Here we are after the show.

Before I forget, our Instagram accounts, LynnsFunFashions and LynnsConsignments have been getting better and better!  Thank you Rachelle :)!  Please follow us if you don’t.  You can now buy product directly from the Instagram post through our website and Rachelle has been posting new fashion items and store items daily.  Please check them out & give us a follow.  Here is a sampling.

In super exciting store news, my two store managers (Sandy & Rachelle) finally have “official” business cards with special email addresses and phone numbers that you can contact them directly.  I am LOVING my newfound freedom!  Thank you, girls!

Speaking of Rachelle, she has the most darling 2 year old, Ollie.  As a single mom, it can get challenging to find reliable daycare.  I can certainly relate to that–been there done that!  In any event, I am sounding the alarm…putting out notice…asking for referrals…etc. etc.  If you, or anyone you know is interested in helping with some “back up” day care we would love to hear from you.  It is a paid position and I just thought that maybe y’all might know of someone great to help us all out.  Here is a super cute picture of them from our March 1st Clothing store grand opening.

I seem to always talk about Indiana since she is so active with her craft, but let me tell you a little something about Houston.  He is pretty happy that “School’s Out for the Summer”…”School’s Out Forever”…well, not really.  In any event, the day after he finished he headed up to Northern Cal to ride an almost 450 mile bike race.  He is CRAZY (as Indiana’s friend Tim would say).  LOL!

Here is a map showing his route and where he was during the race.  I loved having this app so I could keep track of him.  Unfortunately, he injured his knee at about mile 391 and had to call it quits.  Oh well, what an experience!

So as y’all may remember, I bought a house this past Sept/Oct and we moved in November 23rd.  There were no major issues…….until about 2 weeks ago and OMG!  Calgon take me away (as my sister always used to say).

First problem was in the middle of the night (of course!).  There was an ancient security system installed that was not connected to anything…or so I thought!  It started beeping (like the battery was low) so at 3:30 am in the morning I started pushing buttons to make it stop.  I accidentally pushed the one with a Police Badge on it and wouldn’t you know it, an alarm in the attack started blaring a distress signal.

It was so freaking loud and mind you, this was 3:30 am.  I didn’t know what to do.  I panicked and called the police to see if they would come help…nope.  I then headed out to my office so I could hear and called my friend Marty.  Thank God he answered and he told me to cut the wires…I was like “Could I die?” and he said “No”.  So that is what I did.  LOL. And it stopped!  What really disturbed me about this whole scene was that not one of my neighbors even came outside to see if I was OK…but that is another story.

Then the next night, if you can believe it, I was taking a shower and the faucet fell off in my hand when I turned it on.  Oh well, I figured I just have to screw it back on…no problem.  Well 20 minutes later and I still couldn’t get it back in place and there was no way to shut off the water.  WTF?

I didn’t want to bother Marty again (after waking him up at 4 am the night before) so I just text him and he quickly called and said, “shut off the water”.  OK, how do I even do that?  I went out in the front yard to try and find the shut off and instead found a nice “new” neighbor to help me shut it off.  After trying several different valves, he finally got it shut off at the street.  Seriously?  I was beginning to think that I have purchased “The Money Pit”.

So no water for two days while I waited for the plumbers to show up.  They fixed it and I was back in business.  Until I went to take a shower.  No hot water.  Oh crap!  I figured that the pilot light must have gone off in the water heater when we shut off the water, so I watched a few YouTube videos and tried to light it.  No luck.

I text my neighbor Jose and he said he would come over after work to help light it, but he would bring our other neighbor Brian with him since he didn’t know how to light a pilot.  Thank Goodness something happened during daylight.  LOL.  As Jose & Brian were heading over, they ran into Cody.  So the three Muskateers showed up to help me.

The boys figured out that the gas had been turned off when that “other” neighbor was trying to turn off the water.  Seriously?  They had the hardest time finding the gas turn off, but they finally did and then they were successful in lighting the pilot.  “Calgon take me away”.  I can’t take much more of this 🙂

The next day my mom called me all excited.  John, my sister’s kids dad, had called her and asked her if she would take care of/host Kai for a week while Zach was over at WSU for a music camp.  She was over the moon since we never get to see the little boys (well not so little anymore 14 and 16 but we still call them the little boys because my sister did…remember they were only 3 and 5 when she passed away so they were always the little boys).

She begged me to come up and spend time with them both.  Ughhh….I had a trip planned to Palm Desert.  My mom was like, you can go there anytime, but when can you spend 5 days with your nephew.  That was it.  I booked a flight and it was game on!

The first night we headed over to Lummi Island to eat at the Beach House Cafe.  So much fun!  And of course there were lots of Monopoly games.  OMG!  Why did I EVER introduce Monopoly to the boys?  It is the game that NEVER ends!

The next day we headed into Anthony’s or Hearthfire for lunch.  Love both restaurants, but we weren’t sure which one was open for lunch.  Turns out it was the Hearthfire.  As we drove in, I said to my mom, “That looks like Jen, Jeff & Sam walking in”.  And it was!  Jen & Jeff were really good friends with my sister and their son Sam is great friends with both Zach & Kai (my sister’s boys).  CRAZY!  They said, “Shall we get a table for 6?”  Heck Ya!

But then I remembered my friend Audrey Angel was also joining us so we got a table for 7.  So much fun!  And such a random Hometown Bellingham thing!

That afternoon, Kai and I started talking about my great grandmother, Mabelle (his great great grandmother) who had also passed away when her children were very little (just like his mom).  I had put together a compilation of letters she had written over the years into a book (and of course my grandma Cheryl Leaf had kept them)!

I had given everyone in my family that as a Christmas gift back in 1991.  Kai really wanted to read it so we scoured my mom’s house until we finally found it.  So cute to see him wanting to learn more about his ancestors.  He read the entire book cover to cover.   I told him I wanted to use her story as a basis for my first novel.  He LOVED the idea.  I guess I better get writing!

While I was in Bellingham I got some exciting news from Indiana.  She passed her beginning Groundlings Course!  What?  So proud of that kid.  Now, she can move on to the intermediate course.

BTW, Our next calligraphy course is Sunday, August 21st from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

I had better get her signed up!

Sign up here.

We have also decided to schedule caligraphy courses through the end of the year.  So, if that date doesn’t work for you.  Hopefully, one of these will!

Sunday, September 11th
Sunday, October 9th
Sunday, November 13th

We will be scheduling an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Class and an Iron Orchid Design class for sometime in August.  Please let us know your preferences if you are interested…..evening? afternoon? weekend?

Check out this project piece that Sandy has been working on.  How cute is it?  Annie Sloan even commented on it and added it to her story!  Way to go Sandy!

While in Bellingham, we watched the Westminster Dog Show and it brought back so many memories of my ASCOB (Any Solid Color Other than Black including Black & Tan) Cocker Spaniel Springdale Buffington.  I LOVED that dog and showed him at AKC shows in both the US and Canada.  He was 2 points short of becoming a Canadian Champion when I went away to USC.  Here are a few photos of us.

Oh and funny story, during the Mt. Baker Kennel Club Dog Show in Bellingham back in 1979, guess who made the front page of the Bellingham Herald?  Me and Buffy!

When I flew back into LA after our super fun few days in Bellingham, I took the kids out to breakfast.  Of course, Grandpa had to join us!

OK, just a heads up.  We now have a clearance area for clothing.  Take 25% off the lowest prices.  Come in and check it out!

In more store news, we had a great idea to add wire shelving units to each of our vignettes by color.  As many of you know, we have red, orange, yellow, green, blue, navy blue, black & white and pink vignettes.  These new wire shelving units are not for sale, but are housing pillows that match the color of the vignette.  Makes it super easy and fun to shop for accent pillows and throws!  Check us out!

I think it is time for an eBay score before I share about our experience at the Ojai Valley Lavender Festival. So here goes…My grandmother was a squirrel. Well, that is what she called herself because she would “squirrel” away anything she could.

For example, in the snake pit (a storage room my grandpa built for her) she had shelves and shelves with shoe boxes on them. It was actually quite organized. She would have a shoe box full of snow babies, another full of trade beads, one full of dice, another with assorted lids, many held orphaned stoppers and so many other things that it would be impossble to list them all!

Check out this listing for assorted stoppers from the “snake pit” that I sold for over $100. Yippeee Skippy! Click here to read more.

Of course now that I have brought up the Snake Pit, I am going to have to share a story from my first “100 Best Things I’ve Sold on eBay” books that tells a little bit more about it and shows one of my original stopper scores!

OK, so about the Lavender Festival in Ojai on Saturday, June 25th…it seemed like a good idea at the time.   Not so sure about that in retrospect.  The booth rent was like $225…which is a lot.   In prep for the festival, I dug out my grandmother’s old property box that we used to take to antique shows and fill it with supplies, power cords, scissors, tape, zip ties etc.

And I didn’t think I would be the one schlepping the clothing up and back to Ojai.  Well, think again.  It is my store!  Thank God for Shawnna and her daughter Brooklyn who also helped Schlepp.  But it was a PITA and way too hot.

The festival turned out OK.  We did sell a fair amount and Jeff & Joanne Carolan showed up.  Marc Kettles (he & his wife Eva own Fit Buddha and I went to USC with Marc) had invited me over to his house after for a cocktail and after the 100 degree day, I text him to see if he was serious.  He was and he said Jeff & Joanne could join me!  Turned out to be a super fun end to a trying day.  He and his wife Eva’s home is AMAZING!  Seriously, it is like an estate or compound.  They even have an amphitheater!

So something super fun came into the store recently on consignment…Mattel’s Dancerina Doll still in the original box.  I had one of these when I was a kid and if you can believe it…I found the picture of me when I received her on my 6th birthday…OMG!  It sold pretty quickly for a great price!  I am always saying that  people are trying to “buy their childhoods back” and this just proves that point!

Speaking of birthdays, it was mine recently and it started off super weird.  I am not sure if that is the correct word, but I woke up to two emails from my dad.  My dad has been gone for 5 years now and I have only ever received one (obviously spam) email from his account on Easter day after he passed and the subject was “He is risen”.

Well on my birthday morning, I got two emails from him that said “Hello Lynn!”.  When I told my mom, she said “He is obviously thinking of you today” and that made me cry.  Ughhhhh!  What was even weirder is that they didn’t show up on my computer AT ALL–only on my phone.  Not in my inboxes or in spam.  Coincidence?  I think not.

What an amazing start to what turned out to be a wonderful day spent with Indiana.  We started it off with a private training session with Marc at Fit Buddha.  I thought he may go easy on us because it was my birthday, but NO!  Just the opposite.  One of the hardest training sessions ever.

Then we headed out to the Mandalay Oxnard Embassy Suites to sit by the pool and have lunch & some cocktails.  Then I got a massage.  To end the evening we ordered take-out and watched the Love Boat.  LOL!

Indiana is sooooo funny, she posted on her Instagram account all day in the style that she calls “Lynn Dralle”.  Here are a few of her funny posts.

Then two days after my birthday, I walked into the store and thought that Cha Cha had gotten in and DESTROYED it!  Turns out Sandy (store manager extraordinaire) had come in super early to decorate.  It was greatly appreciated and put a smile on my face :)!  I think it is still a mess, but whatever!

And them, Val gave me the coolest throw EVER from the Junk Gypsies.  It says “Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History”.  Still working on finding my place in History 🙂  LOL!    I had a fantastic birthday week that just kept giving and giving.  Next year, for the big one, I will definitely be in Greece or Croatia….maybe both!

Time to talk about the clothing store!   We still have appointments available for you to bring in 20 of your best clothing items.  We are also now taking Mens items.  Please call or text the clothing store….

If you missed the email saying what we are looking for in clothing…please read it here before you come in.  Thanks!

Also, start collecting your Fall items and Adult Halloween Costumes. We will start taking in Fall on August 1st.  Call or text the girls to set up an appointment.

Land Line  805-628-9208
Cell Phone  805-470-6493

Oh and one more thing, when we get items in lately they are selling super fast.  And I do mean super fast.  You need to come in often if you are in the market for “cool stuff”.  Check out these two items that sold almost as soon as they hit the sales floor.  The outdoor playhouse sold the same day!  The beautiful navy blue sectional sold on the 3rd day.  “You snooze You lose”.

OK, funny story.  Y’all probably know how CRAZY Cha Cha is and that she loves to chew up remotes.  Little did I know, she is apparently also eating parts of them.  Check out this hysterical text exchange that I had with Jensen who helps run “Send Rover on Over” where I take the Cha a few times a week for socialization.  LOL.

One more birthday to share…Houston turned 26 on Sunday, July 10th.  I can’t believe my baby is grown up!  How did that happen?  He was away in New Jersey/North Carolina with Emma so we will have to celebrate when he gets back.  Here is a fun photo of him biking with his Pepperdine buddy in No Carolina and one of the throwback photo I posted for his birthday.

Since they were out of town, I sent Houston and Emma $100 to buy a birthday dinner for themselves in New Jersey. Ironically, they had sushi and ordered The Love Boat! LOL.

Also, had to share the cute post Indiana did for his birthday. LOVE that he is her “ride or die”.

Now that I have shared about Houston, let’s check out what Indiana has been up to.  She hasn’t had any shows in a while which gave me a bit of a break.  But she has a ton booked in July and August.  Watch out world!  She did fly to Denver recently for her first adult wedding.  That is a BIG deal.  Evatt and Haidyn her Pepperdine friends got married and it was a super fun time for all of these kiddos.  Here is a fierce photo of Indiana and her girls at the reception.  I LOVE this shot!

Finally, don’t forget you can shop online with us.  What has been selling the best lately is our Baggu inventory.  People from around the world have been ordering.  Pretty cool!  Here is a link to our Baggu online.

Oh, I almost forgot!  One of the reasons I named this ezine tales from the road (as opposed to tales from the Crypt-LOL) is that as you are reading this I am headed to Palm Desert to see my friends, do some thrifting, get a Sherry Mesa haircut and fly from there to Bellingham.  I am going home again to attend my really good friend Jo Dallas’ daughter in laws Baby Shower!  Go Micheal & Maggie!

And then in August I will be back up in Bham for my mom and Cha Cha’s birthday.  Unfortunately, the only way I can get Cha Cha up there safely is to road trip.  Not happy about that, but hopefully it will be fun.  Indy will ride up with me, but she will have to fly back the morning of August 7th since she has a show that night.  I need someone to drive back with me!  Ughhh!

I forgot to share a photo from the 4th of July.  The one at the beginning of the ezine was the block party in my neighborhood….so much fun!  This one is me, Sandy and Indy at the Pizza place the night before.  Ventura is just soooooo awesome!

060922 $483.99 EBay Score & Lots Going On!…. Lynn’s Latest #004

I really need to get back to writing these on a more consistent basis.  But, Oh well…it is what it is!

A broad recap of the past 6 weeks…Trip to San Diego, three more Indiana Shows in Weho & Noho, House Warming Party and a trip to Palm Desert.  Lots going on at the store as well 🙂  Tons of classes and new furniture coming in and out so fast it makes your head spin!  It was also mother’s day and I wasn’t able to spend it with my kids, ughhh!  But we celebrated the weekend before.

Welcome to Lynn’s Latest #004…

Watch for it every Thursday or every other Thursday, Friday or Saturday!
Actually, lets be honest…watch for it whenever I get one finished hahahaha
Volume III  Issue 004

Back in April, I was mentioning to a friend that my kids hadn’t really been home since Christmas.  Well, they did come home for the Anniversary Party and grand opening of the Clothing store on March 1st, but did not spend the night.  I was starting to think that maybe I should rent out Houston’s Villa (aka Casita) since it never gets used and then…….they started coming home all the time.  LOL.

Houston had a few days off so came out to Ventura to ride his bike and get some free food.  Hahaha.  One night we had dinner at Aloha Steak House and it was lovely.  The next night Indiana showed up and we ate at Red Robin in the Collection.  Random, right?  But I LOVE having them home.

Almost immediately after my last ezine came out, I headed to San Diego.  The trip had been on the books for about 6 months.  Houston would be competing in a bike race and I had reserved a super cool hotel on the lake at San Marcos.  Well, you make plans and God laughs, right?  Houston broke his collarbone biking (where else would something like that happen?) and he pulled out of the race.  Part of my trip was to visit my really good friend Lori so I decided to go down for the weekend anyway.

I met Lori in 2003 (Wow!  We have been friends for almost 20  years) when we first moved to Palm Desert and I enrolled Indy in Pre School at the Presbyterian Church.   Indy met this little girl, Paige, and decided Paige was going to be her best friend.  Well, let me tell you, Paige was having none of it.  Thank goodness her mom, Lori, and I became friends first 🙂 and I was able to get Indy invites to all of Paige’s parties.  LOL!  Seriously, it was so funny to watch!  Here they are about 2003.  So cute!

Since that photo came out of my “3rd 100 Best Book”, I think I should share that story.  It is an embarrassing story about how NO ONE came to one of my first book signings.  Hahaha  But first, a more recent photo of the girls.  How cute are they?  This was five years ago at Paige’s High School Graduation from Palm Desert High School.

OK, on to that story!

Anyway, my trip to San Diego was a success.  Did a ton of thrifting with Lori as she sells on eBay as well.  Also did some touristy things like walk around Encinitas, hang out at the pool and have brunch at the Chart House.  Oh, I love me a Chart House Restaurant.  They are fewer and further between these days.  We used to have one in Rancho Mirage, but it burned down ughhhhh and I believe that there used to be one in Westwood and Malibu.  I could be wrong.  But, in any event, I LOVE the Chart House!

It was the perfect moody Sunday to hang out by the ocean at the Chart House in Cardiff.

We also checked out a furniture consignment store in Encinitas.  OMG!  Talk about no filter and a store that will take ANYTHING….I thought it was insane that they had no standards.  I hope y’all realize how important it is for us to curate the “best” shopping experience for you by not showing pieces that have no right to be in an upscale shop.  Check out these photos.  I mainly took these to show my staff how bad it could be….and that we are doing a pretty GREAT job!

In their Chachki Department, I found a set of Heller Plastic dinnerware.  Usually a pretty good score, but it was priced at $120!  I decided to get it anyway.  Mo has it all ready to go up at auction.  She has 26 listings scheduled to start this Friday/Saturday and they add up to $298.74 at the opening bid.  Hopefully, the set will sell (all in individual listings) for at least $600.

Here are what some of those scheduled listings look like.

Here is one of the individual listings for you to check out when it is LIVE on Saturday.  Click here to see the listing.

OK, to wrap up my San Diego trip I got a great picture of Paige and Lori.  So great to catch up with them!

Oh, I almost forgot.  We went to see the coolest clothing consignment store in Encinitas.  It is called Flashback…it was fun to get some inspo.  Want to do one of our front window with some funky hanging baubles like these.  Where can I get something like those?

Oh and by the way, they do just BUY clothes outright at this location and let me tell you they pay hardly anything.  Pennies on the $.  Lori had a friend take in a vintage Ralph Lauren Polo Teddy Bear Sweater (sell for about $200+ on eBay) and they gave her $5.  BEWARE!

It was nice to be back in the store after San Diego.  Lots of new stuff coming in and we redid both of the front windows.  We now have a green garden theme on one side and a blue beach nautical theme on the other side.  These pics are just sneak peeks/work in progress so please stop by and check them out!

Here are some photos of just a few of the vignettes and a shopper!  By the way, we APPRECIATE you our Customers and Consignors sooooooooooo much!  Without you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we LOVE everyday.  We LOVE being able to offer you a stress free and fun place to shop.

These photos highlight our botanicals.  These are reproductions, but are really well done.  Tons in stock and at $4.95 each for an 11 by 17″ print, you can’t go wrong.  Click here to shop  online store.  We do ship!

It also reminds me how much I love and appreciate my staff as well. Check out this screen shot of one of our group texts. Susan was asking if anyone wanted some fish that they had caught in Alaska and that is how it started….. AAAAWWWWW….warms my heart!

Indiana has been on fire as far as her career is going!  Seriously, she has booked so many comedy and cabaret shows that I can hardly keep them all straight.  I do make a point to attend every single one.  I must admit that it is getting a bit more difficult with one practically every weekend.

The show she had on Friday, May 6th was with some older comics.  We weren’t sure what to expect!  Here is the flyer for the show and me getting stuck at the corner of Hollywood & Vine.  UGHHHH!

I met the kids and their dad before the show for dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant Spartina.  It was actually fun to catch up with William and I even invited him to our housewarming party that would be taking place in just one week, on May 15th!  Yikes….

Just for fun, a throwback photo of William and me back in the day.  We were skiing with Dean Factor (best man in our wedding) and his girlfriend at the time, Shannon Doherty.  LOL!

We ended up celebrating Mother’s Day that evening as well since we didn’t know if the kids were going to come out to Ventura.  Indy posted this sweet Instagram post for me and look at this photo I posted of my mom, dad and grandma Cheryl Leaf leaving the Bloomington, Indiana hospital with me!!!!

Indiana’s show later that night was let’s just say “interesting”.  I am glad that it was just her “original” family there to see it and not my usual crew.  Most of the comics were in their 30’s and 40’s and Indy was the only 22 year old baby.  Here is an after the show photo to put things in perspective.

Back to reality and no more about my daughter who is chasing her dream!  By the way, I fully support her going for it and we even have a fund CMDF (the Chasing My Dream Fund) of which I pay her $15 an hour to pursue her craft. Its a win-win…especially when she buys me that beach house I have always wanted :)!

OK back to the housewarming party that I had scheduled for May 15th that was consuming most of my energy!  I wanted every box unpacked and my house decorated and finished!  Well, we are never really “finished” are we?  But, it was a good goal for me.  We had purchased the home in November, and I gave myself 6 months to get it “finished”.  LOL!

Here are a few shots of my personal “vignettes”.

Before I get to our epic housewarming party, I need to tell you about the Groundlings!!!!!  I just couldn’t get away from talking about the CMDF and Indy could I?  Oh well, it is pretty exciting!

The Groundlings are a famous LA Improv Troupe.  Indiana had to “audition” for a place in their basic class.  Yay!  She got in!  So proud of her.  Check out these pics of her before the 1st class and after.  Too cute!

OK, on to the housewarming party.  I ordered a ton of food and booze and when the ginger beer arrived, I was like “Damn, I messed up”.  First party fail as it has no alcohol in it.

Well, come to find out, Ginger Beer is NOT supposed to have alcohol in it.  WTF?  Well, I learn something new everyday.  LOL.  But before I get into all of the fun shenanigans that went down at my party, let’s talk about our upcoming classes.

The first one is our calligraphy course on Sunday, July 10th from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Her last class was a huge success!   and these are being taught by one of my very first consignors…Joy Goldowitz!

She is a teaching dynamo!  Her course “Calligraphy:  The Art of Beautiful Lettering” will be offered on Sunday, July 10th from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.

Sign up here.

We have also decided to schedule caligraphy courses through the end of the year.  So, if that date doesn’t work for you.  Hopefully, one of these will!

Sunday, August 21st
Sunday, September 11th
Sunday, October 9th
Sunday, November 13th

We will be scheduling an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Class and an Iron Orchid Design class for sometime in July.  Please let us know your preferences if you are interested…..evening? afternoon? weekend?

In the meantime our most recent Annie & IOD classes were a huge success. Thank you Sandy for doing such a great teaching job!   Here they are at the Annie Class on Saturday, May 21st.  Check out that dark brown wood console that retails for $115…wait until you see what they did to it!

Here is the “after” of that same console after a few coats of Annie Sloan Provence and an Iron Orchid Design Paint Inlay.  “Ooh La La” as my grandmother used to say.  It sold three days later for $179.50!  Amazing what a little bit of paint and imagination can do!

Before I get into the housewarming party, I think it is time for an eBay score!  Don’t you?  OK, check this one out…..Click here to see the listing.

It is from one of my Queen’s Court Members, Sherri Mertle!  She emailed me this a few weeks ago….

“I hope this message finds you well and enjoying life.  😊  I’m doing fine.  I tried once again to retire from eBay but then a bunch of surprise expenses popped up.  The main reason I didn’t want to sell anymore is because I DETEST the record keeping and bookkeeping and taxes.  But with mounting bills, last month I realized I had to suck it up and start over again.  Sales are pretty slow overall and it’s rather discouraging.  However, yesterday I had a wonderful SURPRISE Jewelry SCORE that lifted my spirits a bit and I just had to share with you.

This pin came in a large jewelry lot and I paid about $3.45 for it.  I didn’t even notice it in the photos but as soon as I picked it up, I knew it was something special … just didn’t know HOW special until the auction ended yesterday.”

OMG!  9 bids and sold for over $400!  Way to go Sherri!  And in an ending note,

“Oh, and one more thing to share.  If you ever know someone who plans to retire from eBay selling, encourage them to hang on to their best merchandise … just in case.  I definitely regret liquidating all the wonderful jewelry inventory I acquired over the years, but it is what it is and I’m making the most of it.   Anyway, that’s it for now.  Take care.  Sherri”

OK, Housewarming party time!  I was amazed at how many of my friends came out of the wordwork for it!  Seriously!  Our first arrival (early even) was Steve Kantor.  He is a friend from USC grad school that I haven’t seen in 20 years (at least).  Indiana got a kick out of getting to know him because he was really good friends with her dad…and yes, he is drinking NON ALCOHOLIC Ginger Beer.

Then we had Gregg & Robin Kaufman show up from Woodland Hills. Gregg was also in our USC MBA class and he and I were partners in all of our group projects. Such a smart guy! When Robin’s Mom passed away (about 15 years ago) in Palm Springs, they gave us her mom’s Piano for Indiana. How crazy is that? We still have the piano so it was fun for Robin to play it (although she hated playing it growing up). Boy, can I relate to that….I HATED taking piano lessons.

Now, time for a photo dump of our guests!  So many customers, consignors, neighbors and friends showed up.  Too fun!  That is Claudio & Maggie De Medeiros, Steve Burtch, George Kuzma and Bill & Susan Swisher.  How do I not have a photo of Pat & Bill Clark?  Darn it!

Then there were the employees…and more friends.  Another Photo Dump.  Sandy getting the party started with Jello Shots, Val & me, the girls and Sunny and Wayne & his new wife.

And then, Jeff & Joanne (my really good friends from USC & my realtors), Chris Wade from USC Spain Semester, some of my new neighbors and finally Cindy (eBay gal) and her husband Rob looking for lost eBay items…LOL…but seriously it is the truth! And they found them 🙂

And finally, Jensen & her mom (Jensen watches Cha Cha at Send Rover on Over) and Cha Cha was VERY confused as to why Jensen was at our house.  And some more of my neighbors.  I have the best neighbors!

OK that was exhausting, but fun!  Seeing all of the photos brought a smile to my face….  And there are so many more photos that I didn’t share!  We had over 60 people show up to the party and it was so much fun.  Thank you to everyone who participated!!!!  I am still working on those Thank You Cards.  Check out this photo of all of the housewarming gifts.  OMG!

Indiana had a show almost every weekend in May.  If only I could get frequent flyer miles for driving :)!  Before each show, I take the kids out to dinner.  Bribery will get you everywhere!  We decided to try a new spot, The Melrose Umbrella Company.  Let’s just say I am a FAN!  I ordered a martini and asked for a blue cheese olive.  Indio (the bartender) did not have any, but he went back into the kitchen to make one….service with a smile!

And then I met Marc, the manager, from Indiana and we became fast friends.   He LOVES my daughter and her name BTW.  She went back a few days later with some friends and Marc bought shots and a charcuterie board for the table.  LOVE this place!

The show was awesome!  And some of Indy’s friends from the Groundlings came to watch.  One of the gals, Krystal Ker, from Washington was on the West Wing for a season.  But, alas, it was Grandpa (Houston and Emma’s Dachshund) that stole the show.  LOL!

The next day was Khey Fest.  I love a good Country Concert.  There were four of us going, me, Marty, Sandy and Robin.  Sandy was the designated “snack lady” and snuck in a ton of good munchies.  Way to go Sandy!

We had VIP tickets (always a good idea) and the acts were awesome!  Tenille Arts & Dylan Scott!  Can’t wait for Boots & Brews this August with Cole Swindell.  I LOVE that we get so many great bands and entertainers to our little beach city.  Always so much fun!

The next morning I was heading out to Palm Desert.  I don’t normally go mid week, but my friend Mo needed a ride to a doctor’s appointment so why not?  I was able to get some thrifting in…check out these coffee mugs I got at Revivals in Palm Springs.

The Ellen mug is already listed at auction (way to go Mo!).  Just a heads up, when a show is going off the air or a celebrity passes you should always BOLO (Be on the Lookout) for any item associated with them.  I know it is morbid, but death and destruction sell.  LOL!

Check out that auction here.

Super fun time in the desert with my best friends. We did dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory one night. I LOVE that restaurant. Reminds me of growing up in Oregon & Washington and also travel baseball tournaments with Goose (aka Houston).

I was also able to visit my former neighbor, Sandra, at Lake Mirage.  She was the best neighbor and I miss living there!  We lived at the Lake Mirage Country Club for about 7 years so lots of good memories.  I am sharing a picture of Emma and I with Sandra that we took 3 years ago during a visit.  Time flies!

For those of you who may remember, Sandra was one of my first consignors, who sent me to Ventura with all of her awesome Folk Antiques.  Including, Harry the Horse!

Interestingly enough, I still have some of her items listed on eBay and the morning that I was scheduled to visit, we sold 4 dinner plates for $175 each or $700.  What a score!  Here is one of those listings.

Time to talk about the clothing store!   We still have appointments available for you to bring in 20 of your best clothing items.  We are also now taking Mens items.  Please call or text the clothing store….

If you missed the email saying what we are looking for in clothing…please read it here before you come in.  Thanks!

After the desert it was back to almost normal life.  What is really normal anyway?  Laid low for most of Memorial Day Weekend (doing a two week cleanse so NO drinking) and just hung out with my puppy and kitty.  Because how cute are they?

On May 30th, my nephew, Kai, turned 14.  OMG!  How?  When they were here visiting over Christmas, Kai was infatuated with the Bidet in one of our rooms at the Madonna Inn.  Hahaha.  So, for his birthday present, I bought him a Bidet seat that will fit on any regular size toilet.  Sent the huge package and told him not to open it until his birthday.  Well, the evening of his birthday, both boys (Zach and Kai) called me giggling.  Apparently, it was a huge hit….now if they can just get their dad to install it.  Fingers crossed!

Here are a few photos of us in the Country Gentleman’s Suite.  Notice how everyone is on their phone…except for me & Kai who are playing a game.  He is always such a good sport!  Love that kid!

And, here is a photo of the boys giggling with Indiana as they eat Ice Cream for breakfast at the Madonna Inn.  Just like they were giggling when they called me about the Bidet and if you can believe it?  My mom actually had a photo of the toilet with the bidet….LOL!  Way to goooooooo Mor Mor!

Indiana came home to get her hair done by Joey at Tupelo Honey.  He always does such a great job!  And it was just in time for her Cabaret show which was taking place on Saturday, June 4th in North Hollywood.  Here we are out to dinner at Water’s Edge.

I was super excited for her Cabaret show because she was singing a solo, singing in a quartet and also doing stand up.  Such a treat!  Sandy and I headed down for the show and met up with Houston, Emma, Bella & Grandpa for dinner in North Hollywood.  Crazy, but North Hollywood (where I was a buyer for May Department stores for 5 years) is now known as the NoHo Arts District.  Who would have thunk it? (as my mom & grandmother would say)

The show was phenomenal!  Such talent!  Here is Indiana performing “I’m Breaking Down” and “Bitch of Living”.

Afterwards we got a group shot and I took a photo of David Frayley (One of Indy’s roommates & the piano player), Tim from Groundlings (Indy’s new bestie), Indiana and Houston.

In not so good Cha Cha news, she somehow got a foxtail in her foot.  I don’t know if it was at the beach or what, but it was not good!  She started licking her paw and rubbed it raw about 8 days ago.  I couldn’t get her into the vet until this past Monday.  They shaved the fur and tried to lance it out.  After that, it got worse!  She couldn’t even walk.  Ughhhh….

I finally took her to the Emergency Room (Horizon) on Wednesday and they put her under and surgically removed the Foxtail.  Luckily, they found it and she is on the road to recovery.  Although, it is 10 days of epsom salts and antibiotics.  And it only cost $786…  Poor Baby (her or me?)!  But, yes I do have insurance.  Can’t wait to see if they pay this claim!

HEADS UP! We will have a clothing booth at the Lavender Festival in Ojai on Saturday, June 25th. Stop by and see us!

Thank you all for supporting me, my family and my businesses as I work on expanding….as you know I am building my empire!
